Nokia :: E72 Which Models Include Michelin Guide In Ovi Map
Jan 25, 2010It mentions in the new Ovi Maps 3.03 that it has new features compared to the previous version 3.01. Which includes Events, Weather, Lonely Planet guide and Michelin guide.
I've installed the new Ovi Maps 3.03 on my Nokia E72, and I got the Events, Weather and Lonely Planet guide.
However, there's no Michelin Guide on my Ovi Maps 3.03.
I also notice that the PDF documentation has 2 versions, one for the non-touch GPS phones (eg. E52/E55/E72) and another for touch GPS phones (eg. 5800 XM, N97 mini).I am guessing that the Michelin Guide is only present on the Touch version phones (5800 XM and N97 Mini). Could any users who have installed the new Ovi Maps 3.03 confirm if this is correct? Kindly indicate your phone model and whether you have Michelin Guide included with the new Ovi Maps...

May 31, 2010Bought a Nokia N97 Mini Gold Edition yesterday. There is no user guide in Arabic in the box. Come on seriously guys. You are selling a product in the middle east and the least you can do is provide an arabic guide along with it. Called up Nokia care, they ask you to call Axiom, call Axiom and they ask you to call Nokia. Gave up the hope. Tried to get a user guide from the Nokia support website. Go to http://www.nokia.ae/support-en/support-en/n97-mini/guides and select Arabic and the page comes back with an HTTP 404 Not Found.
Imagine buying a phone worth 2500 AED and you don't have a user guide to go with that. Imagine calling up Axiom and Nokia care line just to hear that there is no guide provided in Arabic with the phone. Imagine you feel like an idiot buying something that does not make you happy. Now imagine if that someone were to be you.

I used my Gizmo account details as an example for the settings, but of course you can substitute any SIP VoIP service provider's settings there instead. I understand that the guide won't fix everyone's problems, but any feedback to this discussion thread is welcome and with that we could improve the guide.
In other new S60 3.2.3 devices such as the E52 or E75, you will find the settings to be slightly different, but the basic setup procedure is similar. For those having even older devices like S60 3.1 (e.g. Nokia E71), there's a slightly older guide here:

Nokia N900 :: Need Dummies Guide For Flashing?
Feb 26, 2010I have just this morning got my nokia n900, second hand from ebay. before i put any files on there i want to restore it completely, but this flashing thing is really confusing me. I've done a search of the boards but it baffles me, so if anyone could answer these questions it'd be really helpful:
1) how do i completely wipe it as though it were brand new? (not 'restore original settings' in settings menu, i mean the equivelant of a hard reset)
2) how do i determine what firmware i'm on?
3) what is 'flashing'? is it necessary? if i connect my phone to pc suite/NSU to check for updates, will it work as it does on S60 eg nokia 5800, or do i need another method?
4) i gather the latest firmware isn't yet available for the UK. how do i go about installing it given the n900 doesn't require a changed product code like other models?

Feb 4, 2010I have a N85 Navi which I bought less than a year ago. I updated this week the maps and the application (latest version)and added one voice for the navigation. After this update when I open the Maps and select Settings and Navigation (to change i.e. voice), Maps closes automatically without any error messages. I can open all the other settings sub-menus. Any ideas why this is happening? Do I have the to re-install the application, maps and voices?

Apr 17, 2010I am using Nokia Maps 3.03 on my E71 (language: German) plus Nokia Map Loader 3.0, but I am experiencing several problems: Nokia Maps goes online via Internet for a few seconds (which costs me) although I set it to my Wireless connection. How can I switch that off? Every time I load a new map (and voices) via Map Loader and then start the software on my E71, it tells me that the maps are out-dated and I need to delete them. But then I do not see any maps in the software, and also the load of the voice is gone.

I have a problem with my Maps Application. Firstly I only have 9 icons on the Maps display page instead of the 10 that is shown on the Nokia website, I have found I do not have the Michelin guides........any ideas why?
I cannot download the Here and Now 2.0, it states that the Installation failed and have tried many times to reinstall it. Does this have anything to do with the missing Michelin Guide icon not being there?
Nokia :: Maps 3.01 / Maps Load Screen / Empty Map / No Keys Work
Jan 22, 2010I updated today to Maps 3.01. (To be noted that Ovi Suite still considers there is a new version of Maps available and would download and install 3.01 again any times I click on update.) When starting Maps the load screen with progress bar appears, then I can see an "empty" map. No keys work. After a few seconds (around 10 or so) the phone restarts.I deleted Cities folder and the file QF, rebooted, reinstalled etc. nothing helps.

Aug 10, 2010I've bought a new 5800 Xpress music recently and have three questions with Ovi maps:
1. I don't see any satellite (photo) maps when selecting the satellite mode in the display options; instead, the map is just filled with a pattern of alternating dark green and light green linear areas. How do I enable real satellite data, as shown in the attached picture?
2. The update speed of the map when navigating on foot or by car seems very slow. Is there some way to increase / improve this?
3. The phone doesn't seem to recognize really well if I hold it vertically or horizontally. Can I improve that behavior, or switch between manually?

Apr 27, 2010About a month ago I bought the Nokia 5800 as I wanted the free Sat Nav, I have version 3.01 on the phone, when I phoned Nokia about something else I asked them about version 3.03 and they told me I could not install this until I had used all the days of my 10 free trial, then I was to ring them again and they would help install it for me, after 55 minutes on the phone we had no joy, so I decided to try myself and did it first time. Now the question I need answered with your help is, I am going to Italy in June and when I open the GPS (offline) it works fine in the UK where I live, and when I input the town Pisa, Italy it finds it on the maps, does this mean that the Sat Nav will work in Italy or is this just a map?
When you download version 3.03 does it download all the maps?Also is there anyway I can find out which maps I have on the phone?

Sorry if this has been asked already but a couple of things :How do I check what maps are actually installed on my phone?How do I know if there are newer map versions available than whats installed on my phone?Im asking this because I noticed the Ireland map on maps.ovi.com is more up to date than whats on my phone. I installed the Ireland map again using ovi suite on my pc but it's still missing some new details that are found on the maps.ovi.com map.

May 20, 2010I`ve tried to upgrade my Nokia 6210 Navigator from Nokia maps 2.0 to Ovi maps 3.01 but it. Doesn’t seems to work. If i try to upgrade it with the old Nokia map updater it just says: Cannot get enough information about the phone unspecified error. Can anyone tell me if this is possible? Jan 26, 2010In Maps Updater you can or could select all the countries & provinces you wanted then start the download and come back later when it had finished. Using Maps in OVI Suite, you have to select and download each item one-by-one. I download a couple of entire countries plus about 8 individual French provinces. It's a real pain to have to keep coming back to see if one item has finished so you can select the next, especially since after each French province finishes the selection always jumps back to 'Albania' and I have to navigate back to France again. Sorry, even if you are on commission from the Albanian tourist authority, I have no plans to visit Albania for the time being!
Seriously though, is it so hard to retain the tick boxes to select all the maps and voices you want before you kick of the downloads, so you don't have to spend an hour watching progress bar and can do something more useful with your time? I just find the functional redesign baffling. Next time I'll go back to using Maps Updater, and hope this isn't going to be entirely superseded by OVI Suite, at least until it has the multiple-choice tick-boxes!

Mar 2, 2010I recently bought my Nokia 5230 and it came with the programm Nokia Maps (Version 3.03 (246)) installed on "C Telephone memory" using 9MB there.Then Nokia gladly announced "free world voice guided car navigation". In order to get this free car navigation I followed the Nokia instructions on the internetpage and installed Ovi maps (Version 3.03 (246)) which is now in "D Telephone memory" using 7 MB there.(That is the information shown when I look into the details of my installed programms.I then loaded the necessary maps and the voice file with Nokia Map Loader from my computer into my micro SD card (E) . Navigation is working extremely well! But: What is "D Telephone Memory"? According to the filemanager of my phone no D exists! More important: May I safely deinstall the preinstalled Nokia maps now that I have Ovi maps installed? phone is set to german and the designations above are translations into english and may not correspond exactly to the english designations of Nokia phones set to english.

Nov 3, 2011I recently bought a nokia E7 (Blue) US Version but I am using it in Canada. I updated it to Symbian Anna and so on. Everytime I try to add new maps from the cell phone itself it says (downloading list, please wait) this takes FOREVER, then i try to do it by nokia ovi suite, well that is even worse, sometimes it says THERE SEEMS TO BE A PROBLEM WITH CONNECTING THE ONLINE MAPS, sometimes it says some crazy errors (COULDNT CONNECT TO THE SERVICE, ETCC). I deleted the E:/cities folder + QF file, I opened the Ovi map apps and they got restored and so on but still nothing happens. Is there any other way to add some map I mean MANUALLY? I need the USA and Canada map, (voice guidande male us), I read some discussion from Ovikudy on how to do it manually but i need theses files.
BTW, I regret buying this Nokia E7 big time I should have listened to my friends and go to ANDROID. I know nokia is killing symbian but please fix those MAP serverS.
IPhone 3G :: Guide To Factory Unlocked IP?
Apr 22, 2010It's been a while since I've logged into the forums. Since I've only been lurking for advice for ages, I figure it's time I actually gave something back. Below, a few notes on my journey into factory unlocked iPhone land.So about a year ago, I bought a 'new' iPhone 2G off eBay to replace one I had stolen a couple months earlier. Unlike my original 2G, this one got knocked around quite a bit, including several drops on concrete and tile. The screen was, mercifully, okay, but the home button was hard to press, the vibrate function was off-and-on, and the phone was getting bogged down by OS 3.1 besides. Once I heard about OS 4, and how I wouldn't be able to get it on my old phone, I decided it was time for a new one. WHY UNLOCK? So why even bother unlocking? Well, for one, I've been buying and software-unlocking my phones because I loathe AT&T's coverage, and am enjoying a T-Mobile plan at about 30% off the equivalent AT&T price. Considering 3G is spotty wherever I am, and I have wi-fi in most places I hang out anyway, I'm willing to live with EDGE.
The jailbreak feature is really handy, too, because I'm a stats nut who loves scrobbling to last.fm. There is (and for the foreseeable future, will be) no background scrobbler to send my recent tracks to last.fm without a Cydia app. But I digress…
I finally got fed up with the cat-and-mouse game, constantly worrying about bricking my phone, and enduring the performance issues I have been since 3.1+unlock. Note the difference: a software unlocked phone means you can buy a (cheaper) locked phone, but you have to wait for the most excellent iPhone Dev Team to deliver a version of Pwnage before you can upgrade. Plus, I noticed a lot of performance issues with my older iPhone. A factory unlocked phone was never locked by a carrier, and really does mean any SIM, any time, anywhere--NO QUESTIONS. But where to get one?
BUYING
This is the tricky part. You basically have three choices to get a "legally" (factory) unlocked phone:Buy one for $850+ on a reputable site like Buy.com, TigerDirect, or a host of US and UK sites.
Give a friend going to one of a number of unlocked-iPhone countries a bunch of money to buy an unlocked phone for you.
Buy one for $600+ on eBay.I opted for option 1. How do US/UK companies get these phones, when there are no unlocked carriers in either country? Essentially, they're surplus phones being bought up by wholesalers and then sold to big computer parts companies like TigerDirect. My phone actually carries a Hong Kong part number, but there were no other markings (print, instructions, etc.) for me to tell the difference.** EDIT: Jersey in the UK's Channel Islands also sell the phones unlocked. Probably a spendy trip for US customers, though. phones are definitely expensive: $700 for an 8GB iPhone 3G all the way to as much as $1300 for a 32GB iPhone 3GS. I got mine for a little over $800 thanks to a Buy.com error (which they and Tiger Direct honored, much to my surprise!).Option 2 is cool, if you have a trustworthy friend.Option 3 can be dangerous. A lot of sellers will try to blur the line between software unlocked phones (using the very awesome iPhone Dev Team's unlocking software) and factory unlocked phones (which were never locked in the first place). BE AWARE OF WHAT YOU'RE BUYING. Ask for the part number. Google it, and if it's legit, you should see multiple search results online linking the part # of the iPhone you want to buy with a country with unlocked iPhones. If not, don't fall for the scam. It might be a software unlocked phone, which is definitely not worth the $600+ you'll be paying. Or it could be an iKnockoff, which is just a jerk move all around. UNLOCKING hen I was doing research, I read some conflicting info on this one. But rest assured: IF YOUR PHONE IS LEGIT FACTORY UNLOCKED, YOU DON'T NEED TO WORRY ABOUT ANY EXTRA PRECAUTIONS. PERIOD. Just insert a SIM card, plug it into iTunes, and it'll register and activate the phone just as if you had a normal AT&T account (or whatever your national iPhone carrier is). That's it. It doesn't matter what country you're in when you unlock, nor does it matter which country's iTunes Store you're registered with, nor does it matter what country your part # is associated with. Just plug in your phone and go. If you're having problems, it might be a phone issue, or you might not actually have a clean, factory unlocked phone. HOWEVER, if you jailbreak after that, it's just as if you'd jailbroken a normal, clean iPhone, and all the normal precautions apply.
CONCLUSION
So that's my primer on factory unlocked iPhones. We iPhone users are now conditioned to fear any unlock, but the factory unlocked phones appear to be a lot less scary than they're made out to be. The biggest concern you should have is that you're getting a legit phone from a legit seller—if you're paying several car payments' worth to buy a phone, be careful! Any questions? PS--I'm getting ready to sell the old 2G. I'd like to leave it unlocked, but still wipe all my data off of it. Anyone know the best way to do that? PM me with answers.
