Nokia n900
Has any one out there got the N900 who previously had the N97?Would you recommend it?I do want more of a mobile computer than a phone - I make few calls but do send a fair number of texts. Can anyone also compare to the iPhone (as in have you previously owned the 3GS)
Current Devices:
N900, N97, 5800 & iPhone.
nukea - we will get the perfect device in the end (but not this year!)
Iīm facing a strange problem my calendar events since January 1st arenīt displayed.I tried to reset the device (hard reset) but when I recovered the backup I faced the same problem. Is there anyway to delete just the Calendar data? I am asking it, because I would like to try a full resync (through Mail for Exchange) to try to solve the problem...
1- Anyone faced this problem because of the new year?
2- Anyone knows how to delete just the Calendar data?
Iīll try to backup everything (without calendar), do a new hard reset and then recover the backup without Calendar Items.I updated all the Firmware available.
I find the call volume very low even in a quiet environment. If outside, I find it very difficult to hear what my clients have said. One fact business people love blackberry is because it has got good call and ringtone volume.N900's ringtone volume is good, but the call volume is just too low. (I have already used the side button to max the call volume, the strange thing is, 50% and 100% make very little difference...)

View 109 Replies View RelatedI ssh from n900 to a debian server, which has locale sv_SE.ISO-8859-1. This mostly works fine, except when reading/writing email in mutt. I have had this problem with other terminals and usually solve it by changing locale to ISO-8859-1 (yes, I am not interested in UTF-8), but I can't find any instructions for changing n900 xterm to ISO-8859-1.
View 8 Replies View RelatedAs soon as I opened my N900 box, and found that cable for TV connecting, I was thinking, could it be possible to use this phone as video capturing device directly from video cam?Second thought was "that would also make fine monitoring device on the field".I know that I can connect this phone to some sort of network with my computer, and via that to get it to be a computer monitor if I like.My camcoder can send video through that TV-cable, so could it be possible?
View 6 Replies View RelatedYesterday evening, I suddenly couldn't get a GPRS or any other phone signal on my phone. On switching off/on, I was informed of the above error message.I tried rebooting the phone via the 'u' key (battery out) process and this did not solve the problem. I tried the SIM card in my old phone and it worked perfectly. The N900 WLAN works normally.I did nothing unusual with the phone yesterday evening so I am bemused at this error suddenly happening.

View 7 Replies View RelatedJust bought a device and found that I cannot connect to the home WiFi internet. It's terribly sad, because the main reason of buying this product was exactly i-net. When I connect it asks me to input "preliminary" (?) PSK code. Then it tells me that PSK key is wrong. I can connect using Nokia 5800, PSP, both laptops and my PocketLOOX 570, but N900 cannot. Even if I go to "set up coneections", and go step by step. It can see the wireless itself, no problem. when I set up identification, I choose WPA-PSK (is it correct?) and print in the key. Then same story happen. It cannot connect , and says "connection error", or something like that. That's it. What am I doing wrong there?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI just replaced my **bleep** 5800XM with a N900 (I really love it).Now I wanted to download the "Ovi Map Loader", but the N900 does not show up as a supported device. I bought this device right after Nokia announced that free offline navigation would be available for all current N-series handsets. How come that Ovi Maps is not available for the current N-series flagship? It should not be too hard to port the actual application to Maemo (the current navigation is not that bad - it just needs offline maps).Where can I find the release schedule for Ovi Maps for Maemo?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI am about to leave switch back to AT&T from Verizon on a GoPhone/PYP basis or perhaps T-Mobile in the same contract mode. Have been using a Voyager which is a competent device but has never been as good as I thought it would be. The screens are too small as is the keyboard, the OS isnt great and got over the wonders of touch screen in a hurry. I want a phone with larger qwerty buttons, and a larger screen, good battery life, and great reception. I am not a techy, don't need the latest and greatest, and don't want to spend a lot of money. At this point that leaves me with 3 choices: the e63, the e62, the e90, or the 9300. The e63 should be the no brainer as it is feature rich and modern at an amazing price but the keys are too small as is the screen. The e62 appears to have larger keys and a larger screen and can be had on e-bay for a $60. I have heard that the OS is sluggish but I am not a heavy user and am patient so thats not a dealbreaker. The 9300 is almost prehistoric and heavy and yet it can be bought brand new for $100 and in return I get a solid phone, great battery life, great reception, as well as a spacious qwerty keyboard and a large screen (dont need camera and can live w/o wifi). The e90 appears to be the dream phone but its really expensive, used ebay guessing at more or less than $350. I am not gonna spend that kind of money. I am not a data user, dont need the latest and greatest OS, am partial to Nokia because of reception concerns. Any feedback/insight will be appreciated.

View 7 Replies View RelatedNokia has me back as a loyal customer again after my debacle with the Nokia N97. I noticed three things that I thought are fairly critical, that are missing, all related to the phone part of the N900.
1) In my E61 and the N97, one could while in a call, choose a contact from the contact list and send number as DTMF, this feature is particularly useful when using calling cards, which I do
2) From the call log of both the E61 and N97 you could choose an entry and edit the number before calling, helpful sometimes when roaming and the incoming number comes with an odd prefix because of odd carrier routing of the call
3) In Contacts, is there no field for Middle Name?
I have tried a fair bit of searching on this and other sites, oddly couldn't find anything on these, any one have any thoughts?

When I plug my phone into the PC and try to synchronise the new phone to my PC. (I run Windsow 7 and trying to sync Outlook 2007 Calendar and Contacts). I keep getting the message "The connected device is not supported by PC Sync". I feel like I've stepped back intot he dark ages... And I can not download music or pictures to the phone either. i have not been abvle to do a single thing on this phone and just about ready to give up! I have been talking almost daily to the Nokia Tech Support department who say they are going to refer the problem to more senior development people - and are now challenging me that I don't know what I'm talking about - and call me back during the day when I am not at home!

View 5 Replies View RelatedI bought an N900 yesterday and during install, the thing went down although it was plugged in. I let it down and tried to load the battery all night long. This morning, I rebooted but it kept freezing on the 5 well known dots.
I searched how to flash the N900 and succeeded in it. Problem is that, as soon as it's booted, it reboots right away. Can it be that the battery is dead? After loading a whole night long, the battery should be fully charged, no?Also: if the battery is broken, it doesn't give current through to the machine, is that possible?
Remark: sometimes the device says "internal application error: camera application closed". But that only happens once in a while and I guess it is due to all the previous reboots it did...

View 7 Replies View RelatedI've been deciding lately on whether or not I want to make the final push to the N900, but can't fully decide.I've been looking particularly for phones that are able to run on the T-Mobile's USA 3G network, 1700, yet at the same time have a slide out qwerty keyboard. After months of deciding and debating, I still can't fully decide on where I'd like to be exactly as I've gotten so many mixed reviews from both sides, in terms of user experience.
For example, some of the flaws I hear for the N900 are - it's mainly built as an internet tablet, not a phone, so don't expect to be able to rely on it fully. I don't know how stable the N900 is as of right now, but I'm hoping to hear good things about it. Part of the biggest gripe to which I have with my current phone, is that being touch screen only, it locks up or lags occasionally when I want to make a phone call or send a text message - and that's something I'm hoping dearly, dearly to avoid when I purchase a new phone. As for apps and things similar, I don't expect much and I don't need much as well. Having used an Android/Apple phone in the past, I didn't find myself downloading apps constantly. Instead, I found myself deleting them more, being content with the few that I had.
Another thing that I've heard about the N900 is that there is no portrait mode, yet from everyone that I've talked to, they've said that it's most likely something that's going to be on the way. That's something that I'm a bit curious to as well, since I have not gotten any real, definitive answers that can firmly state that this is true. Everything that I've heard so far only sounds like it's the conclusion of the typical rumor and speculation.
To sum it all up, by purchasing the N900 I'm hoping to experience a stable OS, which means stable phone capabilities along with internet browsing. I've been eyeing the Nexus One for quite a while now considering it's 1GHz Snapdragon processor, but the issues with the bottom screen buttons and lack of physical keypads have kept me on the edge. I do understand that Nokia also has a new phone coming out sometime soon which is suppose to redesign the way Symbian is, so my options are open. What I'd like to know from you N900 users, however, is do you think the N900 lives up to the standards? Or should I just wait and look elsewhere?
For those that believe that I should be looking for a "real" phone instead; my current phone that runs Android was designed to do so, yet I find myself browsing the web, etc., more than I do making phone calls. I'd like to elaborate more within this area, but forgive me as it's late right now and the detail are slipping my mind. I'd be more than happy to provide more tomorrow morning.
i appreciate all the time and honest feedback you contribute to this, and forgive me if I sound a bit demanding or others as it is 4AM where I am now, and I am trying to put all my thoughts down, straight to the point. I am choosing to write this now because I am in dire need of a new phone soon, since the one that I have right now is purely and currently unreliable in terms of making phone calls performance wise (lag, long delays, etc.) .Anything else you would like to add in terms of what you think may help benefit me in a decision will also be gladly appreciated.

I have been trying to load maps into my N900 using the Map Loader. The N900 was connected to my Windows 7 laptop using Mass Storage mode. Fire off Map Loader and then it got stuck at "waiting for phone". That message keep flishing and nothign else seems to be happening. Anyone encounter a simple problem and it is possible to fix this one?
