IPhone :: How Good Is Device GPS - Want To Use It On A Ship
Aug 11, 2010I will be traveling to Corpus Christi for 5 days, very exited as this is the first vacation.I will have an iPhone. I Will be going on the Flagship again which tours about one hour into the gulf of Mexico, pretty sure I will not get a 2G or 3G signal.I desire to use a few location services apps (mixed with Backgrounder) so that I can track how far we are and where we are (Easy Trails so I can upload it to Google Earth!)Main Question: Can Apple's version of "GPS" work that far from land WITHOUT a cellular signal?

Jun 24, 2010Is it me or are there no cases out yet for the iP4? I know wants us to believe we don't need one and it's indestructible, plus they want us to by their bumper, aka a $30 rubber band, but I want a case. I am going to very careful with it for now, but I am a bit nervous. I can toss my 3G, w/ Incase slider, on my desk or table, even drop it and I have no worries. I just hope cases hit the market soon. I have not gone into any stores yet to look, so if anyone knows anything please let me know. I looked online and it's slim pickins. Post pics and reviews of your iP4 cases.

Feb 23, 2010My wife and I just purchased 2 3G Iphones. We want to protect them ASAP. We want to buy cases that will help protect the phone from being dropped. Also we want them to be somewhat slim and not bulky. I would think a silicon case would be better than a hard case in shock absorption but please correct me if I am wrong. My wife keeps her phone in her purse while I usually have it in my pocket. Are budget for both is $50 shipped. Do hard cases help absorb shock when you drop your phone? Also what is a good online retailer for Iphone cases? Here are the options I am thinking about. I am open to any other suggestions. Amazon has these all in stock.
Switcheasy Capsule Rebel: I like the idea but I don't know if I like the look.
Switcheasy Capsule Neo: Looks better than Rebel but reviews are not as good.
Iskin Solo: What my wife is looking for but may be too glossy.
Shield polycarbonate slim fit case: Cheap on amazon but don't hear too much about this case
Incipio Feather: Looks awesome and slim but would it protect the phone when dropped??
Speck Candyshell: Looks very nice but rubber corners and bottom tend to break or rip.
Seidio Flexarmour: Ok looks. Don't hear much about them.
Seidio innocase: Looks nice but will it protect iphone if dropped??
Otterbox Impact: Cheap, good reviews, and looks like it will protect. It looks too bulky and not the most attractive case either,

I checked zagg.com and they already have a full body protection for the iPhone 4 but it looks like it doesn't cover the metal ring around it. Would like to protect it as soon as I received it. Read good things about Vaja cases in regards to quality. Looking for feedback on functionality. Long 45 day order time though. Not sure that I dig the flap, which could get rather annoying, so leaning towards the Grip. Top is in the first photo and Grip is in the second two.

Mar 22, 2010I know there are several threads about cases for the HD2 here, but a few are about leather cases (which I do not want to use)...there some about the silicone/ gel cases which I would like to use, and theres the invisible skin type which I would like to know more about. I do not know if the Invisible Skin/Armor ..w/e you want to call it -they seem the same to me... are tough enough to truly protect the phone from a fall ?I also would like to know if there are any silicone/gel cases which are thinner than usual but still provide adequate protection..One good example I can think of is this one case I saw on an iphone -it was a clear hard case, but it was very thin which made me really like it.

Rep looks at my phone and says "well, thats why we try to sell you phone cases and screen protectors...we will NOT replace this for this reason." I asked her where in the manufacturers warranty it states my phone requires any protective devices. I didn't even want to argue the obvious point that a screen protector or a case wont prevent this. She just took it back and blew a can of air around the perimeter of the screen and said "sorry, but thats all I can do for you.

Also, can anyone recommend a good pouch that clips onto your belt that fits this phone well? And screen protectors too? The new features of iPhone 4 don't interest me; I think the older iPhone 3GS is fine for my needs, but I want more than 8 GB, ideally 32 GB. Also, I want a new one, not a used one. My question is should I buy one now (while they are still officially listed for $199) or will they go on sale when the 4 comes out? Or will they disappear from the market and I'll have missed my chance?

Jan 11, 2010I was considering buying an iPhone but I'm a little hesitant because I think Apple may be updating it very soon. Do you think now is a good time to buy? From what I can gather, there's a good chance it will be updated in around June/July like it usually has been. My biggest concern, though, is that when Apple does a major update to the firmware (software?), will a current 3GS be able to update to it as well? Hardware changes seem less important to me because while there are bound to be some changes, overall, most things will probably remain similar. Things like an OLED would be nice, but not as important to me... I don't believe they will add much power to the device because new apps would come out requiring more power, and older iPhone owners may not be able to use them.
Also, while some amazing Android phones are sure to come out this year, I can't keep waiting for them. I would probably choose the Google Nexus One over the iPhone, but it will probably still be some time before it comes to Canada (and probably only WIND Mobile will get it.) As long as the iPhone can keep matching Android's features via firmware updates, I wouldn't mind hanging onto the 3GS when the new iPhone comes out.
Those are my thoughts, what do you guys think?

Feb 4, 2010If i had the money to buy an iPad id want to put it into my dashboard of my car. That would have been a better idea for apple to market the iPad. That way you can have a music player, gps, maps, watch videos, not sure what else but on a big screen like that in the car would be nice. I think iphone and ipod touch are too small to use in the car. I dont know why apple didnt think of doing this in the first place. Be able to put it and detatch it from the dashboard cuz you wouldnt wanna leave it in the car. Another good thing to use it as would be like an mpc with intua beatmaker app if you make music. It would be way cheaper than buying an mpc. What would be some other good uses for it?

Jun 7, 2010I am using IPhone 8GB (First gen) and am getting IPhone 4. I was almost decided on 16GB till my friends told me that 5 megapixel photos will be much larger than 2 megapixel ones. Also HD video will be large. I am only using 5GB out of my 8GB phone now. I have 3GB of music and about 600 pictures on my phone. And yes about 150 applications. I don't need movies or TV shows. So just for Higher resolution pics and video, do I need 32GB over 16GB?
