Nokia :: N900 Keyboard Backlighting & Notification Light
Jan 4, 2010
The backlighting of my keyboard has completely stopped, along with the notification light. Noticed it a few days ago.I've checked the notification settings and nothing has been changed, but the light no longer works/indicates for any functions. The loss of backlighting for the keyboard is the issue that I find the most concerning. Other than these two issues, I really couldn't be more pleased with my N900 and the Maemo experience.
I got the Atrix 2 today, The Back lighting on the 4 soft keys on the bottom, settings, home, return and search, the backlighting doesnt always come on.. usually when you touch them or the display screen, they light up bright white.
I'm sure this is a simple one to those of you who have been using the N900 a while, but when using the virtual keyboard, how do you accept the suggested word while typing? I've tried every arrow on the keyboard and am stumped.
My phone is basically in English but my second language if Hebrew, and I can't change the language on toe keyboard, it only works on the virtual one, how do I change the language on the keyboard?
I tend to use the virtual keyboard when sending sms text in conversations. My question is when ive finished typing the message i cannot see any key to take me back to where you press the 'send' button.I end up having to touch the space on the screen above my message to take me to where the send button. Is this the only way ? Nokia n900.
While typing text either in emails or messages, I fail to see how to accept autocorrected entries via the virtual keyboard. On the hardware keyboard it is done by pressing > key (itself not very convenient), but I haven't found any way of doing it on the software keyboard.
My N900 has Scandinavian (Finnish) keyboard. After installing a couple of games(Duke nukem 3d and Abuse) and I think one of these probably crashed, it got left in US keyboard mode (I think). I see that there is a new file created called /home/user/int_kb_layout that has string "us" inside it. Just deleting this file and restarting the phone does not help. Searching around I find that perhaps some tool called /usr/bin/gconftool-2 might need to be used, but I got more confused. Therefore I might ask in general how one can get back their default keyboard maps for their N900?
Does anyone know how to setup the N900 so it sees a stowaway bluetooth keyboard? I'm not knowledgable with Linux code so you would have to provide all detail if I had to make script adjustments. I'm sure this has been done but maemo.org usually talks at programmers level on tasks such as this one.
My N900 got in a deep coma after the battery ran empty. I managed to get it out after flashing the device with the vanilla image and the latest OS following the instructions on the Meamo WIKI: https://wiki.maemo.org/Updating_the_tablet_firmware Flashing through windows didn't work (almost sent it to Nokia) but booting fom an Ubuntu USB stick and flash the N900 did do the trick at the end. The following images are flashed: RX-51_2009SE_1.2009.41-1.VANILLA_PR_EMMC_MR0_ARM.bin RX-51_2009SE_ 3.2010.02 -8.002 _PR_COMBINED_002_ARM.bin. The device seem to work OK again until I tried to enter some text from the keyboard. Some characters now seem to be inter connected: when I enter an 'a' it becomes 'oa' when I enter an 'o' it becomes also 'oa' when I enter an 'x' it becomes '.x' when I enter an '.' it becomes also '.x' when I enter an 'd' it becomes 'dk' when I enter an 'k' it becomes also 'dk' when I enter an '#' it becomes '#&'when I enter an '&' it becomes also '#&' I verified 'text input' and 'languageŽional settings' under 'setting' but nothing seems to be wrong there. I don't us any custom dictionairy. The vitual keyboard work normal. It pretty much sucks when the keyboard can't be used. does anybody has a solution for this issue?
The notification icons for missed calls and SMS messages remains highlighted on the 'slide to open' screen. The number of messages and missed calls increase each day. My partners N900 also receives the icons, but as soon as she enters the phone or the messages, the icons dissappear. We both have the latest software. Is there anyway we can adjust the notifications?
1 week ago i walked in the water with my mobile.. Nothing worked anymore. I took my mobile to a telefone store and they have repaired my mobile. Only i've got a steady blue led light and no keyboard light only when i start my blackberry on, the keyboard gives light. If i get other notifications the blue led light still gives light and the red light is blinking that i have something.
I having the problem after update my X10 to android 2.1. I found that my screen light sensor (which actually works b4 under different environment lighting) and the LED notification light (it works b4 while I got the missed call or sms) do not work after update to android 2.1... One more is, the screen color gradation seem worst that b4...is it normal?
How do I turn on the flashing light to notify me of an event while I was away from the phone (ie, missed call or sms)? I found it once, but I've forgotten where it was.
I have a the T-Mobile version of the 5230 (the Nuron). I assumed that the notification light would flash after someone left a voice mail. T-Mobile Customer Service claims the Nuron does not do this. Under the Settings-Phone-Notification Lights-Notification Light-Events Notified screen, there are 3 options that can be checked: Missed Call, New Message, New E-Mail. I had hoped "New Message" included voice messages as well as text messages, but I guess not.
This means that I would have to turn on the screen to check for voice mails if I stepped away from my phone. (Note: I do get a flashing notification light for missed calls and texts. However, the missed call flashes stop as soon as the "new voice mail" message appears on the screen.) I've tried a soft reset with no improvement.
My issue is that the notification light on my 6760 always flashes regardless of if I have a new text/email/missed call. To check this, I set it so that it notifies me, but then unticked all the boxes for notification, eg: unticked 'notify for text', and 'notify for missed call' etc. So that it shouldn't ever notify me. To combat this I usually just turn this feature off, but I'd really like to use it as lately i've been missing a few important messages that have sat there for hours unnoticed.
- Breathing light is set to On - Notificat.light is set to 1h and checked both Missed call and New message
By the way, where should notification light be appear on phone? (center button?) When there is message or missed call, I cannot see any light come up on any part of phone.
As the happy owner of Nokia 808Pureview i have the questions about the notification lights and low power screensaver. Does the 820 or 920 have this feature? I'm very use to use the always on display clock to check time and missed calls/messages. I found this very useful during night etc. It's not necessary to always unlock the phone... I know WP7.5 missed this feature but what about Lumia WP8? If this has still not been implemented, it's very step backwards for Nokia. I thing lot of customers are used to this function...
I use E66 and E52 phones. When I receive a new message, notification light starts flashing on both phones. It is OK. But... I often use Nokia PC Suite for managing my messages. When I read all new messages on E66, notification light automatically changes its self from flashing mode to "breathing". It's fine. But it doesn't work on my E52. When I read all new messages, notification light is still flashing (no "breathing"!) on E52. I read manual and I know that it is necessary to use my phone directly to stop flashing. Why (if all messages has been read)? I think, it correct works on E66. What is the problem? I use latest version of firmware and Nokia PC Suite (not OVI Suite!). I contacted Nokia HelpDesk, but they told me something like "it is not a bug, it is a feature".
Previously I had to format and factory reset my nokia e7 , after the format I found out that when I send and SMS and I receive the delivery , the notification light start blinking , and as soon as I touch the touch screen or press on any of the phone buttons ( like the home key, volume or unlock ) it stops blinking , I'm sure it only has to blink when I receive an SMS , not when I receive a delivery.
I got my BB Bold 9900 last month so I'm still trying to get used to all the features. A little while ago I noticed something and I've yet to figure out the source of the problem. It's a little difficult to explain but I'll give it my best shot:I've always had the backlighting on 100 - the brightest setting, and it looked great. After having played around with it, suddenly, it's nowhere near the brightness that it used to be despite being on the highest setting.Does this make any sense? It used to be really bright and easy to read, but now even on the highest setting it's quite dark. Hopefully there's a solution to this and it's not just me. I've searched through all the settings and can't figure out why it's not as bright as it used to be.
In other phone cameras you just tapped the screen where you wanted it to focus and the camera would expose properly for that subject. This is particularly important if the subject is backlit. Not so the camera in the S5 it seems. It will focus on the desired object with a simple tap but the overall exposure is still for the overall frame leaving the intended subject terribly underexposed.
I purchased a blackberry torch the other day, and am noticing today that the buttons surrounding the trackpad will not light up. They will flicker occasionally but theyd o not stay lit up. Seems like maybe a connection is lose or something. I'm not sure if this is new since I put the stuff from my old blackberry onto the new one but this is around the same time I noticed the problem. If I need to I'll get it fixed or something.... but im not sure if theres a software fix or something?
I have a Nokia E5 White.when I try to use the keyboard, the light goes ON even when I have a good light in the room or outside. And that makes it defficult to see the letters on the keybord ( white keyboard + white letters)
