Using my 5800XM.I need to visit some sites during work that contain the full version website. The mobile version is too watered down .
Some of these sites I can view using Opera mini, but others return mobile specific versions.I'm aware there is some kind of script that the smartphone browers ( iphone included ) use to request mobile versions. Is there any workaround or another browser that can overcome this ?
I've been using my verizon Storm 9550 for a few months now without any serious problem. However since 2 days ago, the browser could only display mobile site correctly. Every time I try to go to a full site, it displays a loading bar and after that it just shows a blank screen. Even when I try to search on google, the result page is always blank. Could anyone tell me what is going wrong here?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm on a 5800 and I'm currently on firmware v40. Ever since I've upgraded, my mobile browsing experience has suffered. Sometimes when I'm surfing the net, a message will appear on the lines of "Memory Full: Please close some applications." This occurs even when the browser (usually Opera Mobile, but it happens on Symbian just as often) is the only app open and used to occur only on CNN but now it has started occurring elsewhere. Also, since I've updated to v40, I have been unable to open a second tab without crashing the browser. Has anyone else had this problem? What was your fix?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI received my new Nokia 5800XM yesterday and was told in-store that the GPS would work automatically. So went home and tried it for the first time, it discovered my position in under 5 minutes, and I was super excited as I got the phone solely for the purpose of navigating my way around the new city I had just moved to. However, when selected the "drive", "walk" or "search" options it didn't give any results for my searches for addresses. I tried a bunch of variations on the names of places and even used google maps as a reference of how to write out the addresses but it has a standard "no results found" every time. It also jumps between "searching online" and "searching offline". I visited the Nokia website to see if I could find a solution, and subsequently upgraded the software on my phone, downloaded the maps installer, the map loader and the multimedia transfer. I then deleted all the existing maps and installed the map for my country and a voice.
It is still, despite having no problem with connectivity, not giving me any search results. Is there some place that you set the phone to search the maps installed on the memory card? As I think that the phone searches online and the connectivity might be interrupted? really have no clue about these things. searched everywhere and couldn't find setting for this. I can scroll through the map and manually select a place, after which the GPS works fine except - the voice isn't working! Does it talk out loud? or do you need your headphones? This is fine if you're going somewhere that you know, but that's kind of defeating the point of having GPS, no? Another small problem is that I have a constant flashing little envelope in the right top corner, it says that "SIM card is full" - but I can't find a directory for the SIM card? It's been flashing since the moment I put the SIM in the phone, but never did it with my old phone. Any idea where I can access the SIM information and delete some of it?
how do i view websites in full like i do on my pc and not as mobile websites. i am trying to view ebay site but i keep getting the mobile version. i have even tried to type in the full ebay site address [URL] in the address bar but it still defaults to the mobile version site. same with facebook.

My Xperia Play is forcing me to the mobile websites, whenever i try to go to the bbc website and it always gives me the moblie versions and i want it to go to the normal one. I've set my useragent to desktop and even tryed dolphin with useragent as desktop but they both force me to the moblie site is there any way to force it to the normal sites

View 6 Replies View RelatedI turned off the 3G network and wish to connect to the Internet via the WiFi connection. My WiFi is enabled and has a valid IP address. I can ping the WiFi gateway, I can also ping an external host (google.com which resolves to 74.125.224.134). DNS lookup also works just fine and I can ping various hostnames directly. So, the ICMP packets are traversing the network. In WiFi Diagnostics (Advanced), I see a valid local IP address (192.168.5.190) and gateway (192.168.5.1, which is also the local DNS server / DNS relay agent).So, I want to pull data (web pages, etc.) from the Internet using the WiFi only (with the 3G cell / mobile network disabled). But when I turn off the mobile radio, I get this error: "Cannot visit web page when radio is turned off. Please turn on the radio and try again."

Another issue is that when I view the workout data and look at the speed data, it does not reflect actual speed. The data is not representative of the ride. For example, I know I hit a top speed of 32 mph, but nowhere in the downloaded data is a number anywhere near 32.

View 10 Replies View RelatedI just bought a 5530 & mostly it works as intended.But I am having a problem trying to connect to a lot of websites, using wi-fi, not mobile phone network.I am on my home wi-fi connection, playing alongside my PC, which allows me to compare simultaneously.My usual method of finding sites for the first time is to Google the name, then click on the best link, then bookmark for later. (This is my normal PC approach.)
Mostly that works, but I find with the Nokia that many sites do not connect.
One example is "travelodge.com"
If I Google that, I see a first hit with green address "www.travelodge.com/PHONE SYMBOL."
Clicking on that link gets me nowhere, except a time-out message.
I tried entering the address "http://www.travelodge.com/" directly, but get the same result.
The next hit down on the Google page is "travelodge.co.uk" with a green address "www.travelodge.co.uk/"
Clicking on that link gets me right to that site OK, like many other sites.Other sites which similarly will not connect are "super8.com" & "ramada.com".
It sems that when the Google hit shows a PHONE SYMBOL in the address then I can't get there, whether I try via Google or directly.
What symbian websites are a good download source? I mean for applications, themes etc, without having to worry about trojans & the lot.

It's either the phone, the ovi software.I have the following: Nokia e72 < acts as modem via cable or bluetooth > laptop..When it acts over modem via either cable or bluetooth, I can only access certain sites eg.I can't access google, or msn messenger for instance
I can access wikipedia, and my ISPs website as an example.Originally I thought it was because it was only able to access australian servers, but this isn't the case. My browser just seems unable to get a connection to certain sites/servers ever - it times out when i try to view google - but only when my phone is the link to the internet.On the phone, I can access every site/server that I want. But not on my laptop via the phone. When I'm on another internet connection (home or work etc), I have no issues connecting to those sites/servers from my laptop.Browsing google over other connections has not helped me find a solution yet. The connection to the net is stable - it doesn't drop out and can remain connected indefinitely.I'm running:
Laptop version: windows7, with ovi 2.2.0.241
Phone version: 031.023
The results have been the same on earlier versions of the phone and ovi software. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

View 10 Replies View RelatedI bought an unlocked 5800XM (RM-428, fw 21.2.025) for my wife a couple of months ago. It is actually Cincinnati Bell branded, but we are using it in AT&T. Until yesterday everything was going smoothly until she was not able to send SMS's anymore.
I verified the SMS center #, all other settings etc., but to no avail. I even put my SIM in the phone and I wasn't able to do that, either. The phone was able to receive messages, though. And she was able to send messages on another phone.
So... I decided to use my Nokia PC Suite and Software Updater to check if there is an update available. No, there wasn't, but I still decided to go ahead and do a reinstall. Just in case.
The process went great, no problems, error messages etc. Except a "phone disconnected" (I never touched the phone or cable while the update process was going on) message a couple of times, which the PC Suite said is okay. Until I tried turning the phone on.
NOTHING! I press the power button and the screen lights up briefly, but that's it. Then I decided to press the button a bit longer so that I would feel the usual brief vibration when turning it on. Well, there is a vibration, but it continues for about a minute, or so, and then stops. But the phone still doesn't turn on.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI've got a 5800xm on T-mobile in the UK which had software version 21.0.025. Checked for updates on the phone and had the 'no updates available' message. Went onto Ovi Suite, did a backup of my phone, then updated the software to version 31.0.101 which should be compatable with Ovi/Nokia maps 3.3 (with FREE navigation). After several attempt to download and install the new map software (through Ovi store on the handset, Ovi.com, and Ovi Suite) I finally managed to get the 'installation complete' message
I don't get the dashboard when I first start Ovi maps each time, which is supposed to show that it is indeed the new version that you're running. Now when I start to plan a route, I get the first turn voice command, then my phone shows 'updating' then proceeds to ask me for money! If I go into options - about (on maps), I'm supposedly running v31.01 09wk26. If I go into settings - application manager - installed application, Ovi maps shows version 3.03(246) being installed. Tonight I connected the 5800 to my PC to download some maps using maploader, and Ovi Suite came up with an option to install Maps v3
For a change, this is not a post to complain about my phone. Just a post to say thanx to Nokia. I got a 5800 since about a year now. At the beginning I was a little bit disappointed because of no office document reader, no free navigation, no kinetic scrolling but all these came, one by one, every 3 months or so.
And I am just so happy with what I can do with it (Calendar sync with Outlook, MP3, stereo audio bluetooth, read my emails with WiFi, use Google Maps, Google Mail) and with the improvements that have been delivered through the several firmware releases. Especially OVI MAPS with Free worldwide GPS Navigation, this is so cool. And the new music player, and the free Office document reader.
Of course there is always room for improvement. I'd like to :
- sync my address book & mail with Thunderbird
- open PDF document
- get rid of the Nokia internet browser for the new Opera
- never have to restart my phone for software problem
- charge it from USB etc.
I have had 2 times issue that phone screen freezes during call. No keys helped, but ON/OFFswitch. Updated to last version of v40.0.005. Don't remember the exact conditions or sequece of actions, just got unpleasant case. I noticed also that batteryindicator showed 1 stripe of battery. After restart , the battery was full. Is this expected action for this phone? Should Itake it back to service? My phone is used ~1 week, so there can't be any issues caused by wrong usage.
