Motorola Smartactions :: Trigger On Presence Of Network SSID
Dec 10, 2012
provide the ability to create a trigger based upon the presence of a secure network SSID (i.e. not one you are connected connected to )? I need to trigger an action when a secure network, for which I do not have the password, is detected.
When creating a Custom Trigger and selecting "Wi-Fi network" I find the following Actions greyed out: Does this mean you cannot select them or are they enabled by default? IF they are enabled by default, why can't you save the Custom Trigger without selecting an additional Action.
After upgrading to ICS and being forced to do a FDR, I eventuallly realized my Smart Actions were no longer woking properly. I deleted them and was adding them back one by one. The ones that are not location-based work okay but I cannot actually get a location trigger to save. I press on Location, it shows me my one location I have set up right now, I select that one, press done to go back out to the smart action page, but the location value is not set. I tried clearing the cache, system and app, already but nothing changed.
I just realized I can set a location if I am not editing a sample action. Starting with a blank rule, it works but I still hae so save the action and then save the trigger.
I've just updated my Razr Maxx to ICS several days ago and ever since then the Location trigger I use for work is completely unreliable. It's constantly turning on and off all day long. I mainly use the smart action here to make sure my phone is automatically on vibrate throughout the day at work and I can't really rely on it at this point. Prior to updating to ICS it worked perfectly.I noticed you do not need to leave WIFI on anymore for location triggers to work, but at the same time I see wifi in my battery usage while wifi has toggled off. Is this new version manually turning on WIFI to determine location? I've tried leaving WIFI on and it doesn't seem to make a difference, it's still inconsistent. Also, I've already tried resetting Smart Actions to default and wiping out all smart actions and starting from scratch.
I was googling around the interwebs to find out more recommendations for smart actions rule settings, and I noticed some references to a motion sensor trigger (for example, in the BGR review of the Droid Razr Maxx). I don't seem to have that trigger in the version of smart actions on my new Droid 4, though? Is that a hardware sensor limitation? Or do I need to change a setting somewhere to make that trigger come up in the list?
Why do we have to constantly keep our Wifi connection on thoughout the day for Locational Smart actions to work properly? Why cant we have Location in Trigger and Wifi(on) in Actions since its also using our GPS location to location us and Wifi for more accurate location?
I have SmartActions set up to trigger when my location is home to turn on WiFi and turn off data. Similarly, I have a trigger when I connect to my Bluetooth in the car to turn off WiFi and turn on data.
The problem is when I am leaving the house but not going to the car. Is there a way I can determine that I am leaving my house or disconnected from my home Wifi so that I can turn WiFi off and data on?
First let me start by saying I had the RAZR and I used Smart Actions quite a bit to control certain functions. I then got the MAXX because well I wanted it.. and its massive battery. So, I updated to 6.12.173 and went to set up a smart actions and found that I could not find the Incoming Call Trigger. Now I had this bult on the orginal RAZR already, and I had updated the phone so I went back and it is mssing from their as well.
If I unmask my WiFi network, I can connect to it with my Droid Razr.
If I turn off broadcasting, I know its still there - I have laptops and an iPhone that still find it an can connect to it. But my new RAZR doesn't seem to know how to locate/connect to it .
What settings do I need to change to get this to work.
I prefer to hide my wireless SSID but when I do this my android devices don't see the network. Even if I am already connected with my Xoom then switch to hidden SSID mode the Xoom disconnects. Same for my HTC Thunderbolt. My network is shown in the list of remembered networks as out of range. When in hidden mode. This does not affect my laptops.
They stay connected if I switch to hidden mode and they have a setting to connect to hidden networks that have previously been configured. I cannot find a setting for hidden network support on either android device. Hiding the SSID is not a new concept. Is this not supported in the android network stack? I have a strong random PW on my wifi so I am not terribly worried about it but I would be nice to have the option.
I tried to join an open wireless network in a cafe using my 3GS, and I got the message 'Unable to join network' and the SSID of the network. At the time I just though it was a problem with the cafe's network and didn't think about it again.
I have just bought an Atrix 4g european version. A great phone, but is there a bug in the operating system ? (2.3.4 was preinstalled) When I try to connect to my home network via wifi and the router is not broadcasting the SSID, the phone cannot connect. When I change the router so the SSID is being broadcast, the phone can connect and has an "excellent" connection. My other mobile phone (HTC diamond 2) and laptop can both connect to the router when it is not broadcasting the SSID, so the router is okay.
Id been looking on the net all morning to try and figure out why i couldn't connect to a hidden SSID. I found that this is still an issue, there are a few workarounds. I tried the hidden SSID from the market and it dosent seem to work, just says that it cant find the SSID. Since I have access to the router, i enabled the SSID to broadcast, then turned it back off after I have connected it. It seemed to pick it up after it had connected to it once. However, im hoping that it wil be the same way in the morning.
I believe the switch that detects when the phone is opened / closed is barely working. I have opened the phone up and cleaned it, but the problem still persists. I like the V600 because it is quad, unlocked (im out of contract with t-moile) so I can swap sims and use it when overseas. I could renew the contract and get a free phone but I couldn't find any free flip phones that have quad on t-mobiles upgrade page.Suggestions on what to do? Replace internal parts or bite the bullet and pay for a new phone?
When I use my camera in panoramic mode the images that should auto take after the first image are too far apart. (Almost 90 degrees) This mode used to work with an earlier release of Android (2.2) but hasent worked since 2.3.4. Is there some setting I need to fix? Is this a bug with the camera app?
I was given a case for my n900 as a gift. I found that every time I put the n900 into the case, it would wake up. I would put it to sleep with the spring loaded switch on the side, but no matter how gingerly I put it into the case it would keep waking up. It then occurred to me to put it into the case backwards, where upon it did not wake up.
The case basically has a felt type liner and a flap which is held closed with magnets in the flap and the front of the case. I have confirmed that both pieces are magnetized. I further discovered that if I run the front face of the n900 against either the flap or the front face of the case, the n900 will wake up.
Simply touching the face of the n900 to a magnet is not sufficient, it must be rubbed or passed in close proximity to the magnet, which I presume is then inducing a current some place that causes the n900 to wake up.I don't know if it is any more of a problem than to tell the case manufacturers not to use magnets, or at least not use them where they can be in close proximity to the face of the n900. So I am passing this along as a heads up when looking into getting a case, and where hopefully someone with more technical knowledge of the inner workings of the n900 might be able to elaborate on this.
i have N97 mini. In Administrative Settings, there are three things that i am unable to find any reference on the internet. What is XDM profile, presence and net settings how and where they are used.
Is there way to send myself an email if I miss a phone call? When I'm at home my razr max is hooked into my housephones with xlink. Both the cell phone and xlink are located in a closet. Every once in a while a call doesn't go through to my house phone or answering machine - just my cell and I end up not know about the call for quite a while. I always have email turned on so I thought having my cell phone email about the missed call would be a good way to be notified. I tried texting to my gmail acct but smart action is looking for a phone number to send the text to.
I very recently purchased the RAZR MAXX after much research and reading regarding the phone, battery life (of course), and the Smart Actions feature. Thinking that I can downsize from two smartphones into one. Unfortunately, this is not going as well as planned.I am a small business owner and needing the ability to silence the ringer on incoming calls; except for those from certain contacts that I need to be audible after-hours...I've gone into Smart Actions and done the following:Create a new rule "from scratch" named "After Hours"The only trigger is "Timeframe" and specified as the following:
Mon, Tue, Wed & Thu from 8pm until 8am.Fri from 1pm until 11:59pm.Weekends: Sat & Sun (all day)Actions are specified as the following:Ringer Volume is specified as "Silent"VIP Caller Mode: and the specified contacts I wish to activate an audible ringer during the specified times listed during the timeframe trigger are in this list. Ringer volume is set to MAX and the vibrate option is selected/active.The rule has been successfully saved and is showing as being active as we are currently in the time specified for this rule to trigger. Now the heart of the issue: After receiving a call from a number that is not on the VIP list, my RAZR MAXX will no longer sound an audible ring on ANY incoming calls until the "After Hours" rule timeframe has passed. This is including calls from individuals that ARE in fact, in the VIP caller list...
My personal mobile is in the VIP caller list as a way for me to test the audible ringer. A test call from my mobile phone does activate an audible ringer and the phone vibrates. Now, if I receive a call from a business customer while the After Hours rule is activated, of course the phone does not ring nor vibrate. The phone only lights up for the duration of the ring time until the caller is sent to voicemail. After receiving the call from the business customer, I placed a test call from my personal smartphone. Incoming calls from this my personal mobile WOULD trigger an audible ringer previous to receiving a call from a number that was NOT on the VIP list. Now, the phone remains silent, no vibrate alert, no audible ringer. The phone only illuminates until the call is routed to voicemail.
I've tried basic troubleshooting: uninstall updates and reinstall updates for the Smart App. Have deleted and recreated the Smart App rules. Restarted the phone. Nothing seems to work...Could someone please give me a clue as to what may be the "smoking gun" for this. A quick search of the web features others that had mentioned the same issue with their handsets but no real resolution to this problem. And, I really would like to be able to use this feature of the new device, otherwise I just purchased a new $300 phone to carry around beside my Droid X. In that case, I may as well just return the MAXX and return to my previous Droid X.
I have a Atrix HD. The app used to mostly work, now I'm having major issues. Everytime I try to change any setting, the app crashes and I just get a message "Unforunately, SmartActions has stopped."
There a fix for this so that I can make changes or this app is no longer supported?
I have set up the SmartActions app with the Caller ID option set up for phone calls only, no text messages. I have the Motorola RAZR MAXX HD paired with a Motorola H720 Bluetooth headset. Is there a setting that directs the announcement of an incoming call to the Bluetooth device only? I don't want to announce to the world that I have a call coming in via my phone speaker.
If my Bluetooth is turned off, I would expect the audio to be directed to the phone speaker. But if my Bletooth is on and active, shouldn't the announcement go to the Bluetooth?
I want to create a rule to set the phone to ONLY 3G when the display is off, saving battery. If I'm not using the phone, I have patience. I'm less patient when using the phone and want 4G.
Is there any talk on including a new action to turn off/on LTE? Turning LTE off automatically when battery is low can really help save on battery power.
Am trying to set up driving triggers on SA but nothing seems to work. Would like Pandora (and/or Google Nav) to come on when the phone BT connects with my motorola handsfree carkit and tunelink. I have wifi and gps locations settings turned on. Tried disabling all other SA settings (work, home, sleep SAs work great) with just the driving SA enabled but no joy on all counts. D Razr Maxx.
I am having issues with the smart actions missed calls setup.I created a rule from scratch that basically states that if I have a missed call from any number, my phone will auto reply to the person (with my custom text message) and this applies to calls only not missed text.
Trigger (Missed call) Action (Auto Reply text)
So what happens is when someone calls me and I miss the call, I see the smart action "missed call" go active, but it never sends the text message? However when I created a sleep rule that states during night time, have the ringer on silent, and vip calling, and also autoreply with text stating im sleep but will call when I wake up.
