Motorola Photon 4G :: Disappearing Apps From Home Pages?
Aug 19, 2011
Plugged my Photon into my PC for the first time today, using the Phone Portal app (stock). As it popped up, it looked like any other Android/smartphone in that I could "see" it as a drive on my PC....look at/add/delete/manage data and folders. No biggie.But....Up pops the Motorola Media Link app for install on the PC (assuming the file to do so was on the phone and did this once it was connected to a computer). OK, so I install it to take a peek. Install was clean....it looked for and installed an upate of the Media Link app...and I saw that it was nothing more than a sync conduit for music/photos/etc.
Not wanting to sync anything, I simply "safely removed hardware" on the PC...unplugged and went to lunch. It was then that I noticed a bunch off icons missing from the home screens. My HTC Evo used to do that whenever you'd disconnect, because you'd been using the SD card as a drive. It would then re-initialize the card and poof, your icons would reappear. Not this one! They're gone-ski!They're still in the All Apps view....and certainly still on the phone/card because I can see them in settings>apps. If I look at the SD card view, they're all there.I did some rooting (sorry....snooping) around and found a few threads about this regarding Droid X, but none of the questions had been answeredI called Moto and they don't know what it is; "oh
I have been having problems with my home icons vanishing when connecting my Photon as a USB drive. I found a workaround that takes care of this problem.
My apps occasionall disappear from main home pages as well as from folders placed on home page but yet they are all still loaded on phone.Has happened numerous times for same apps and most apps are stored on SD card.Running latest gingerbread version 2.3.3. This has happened before on version 2.2.
I noticed that then I use my Photon as a mass storage device to access the storage card I loose shortcuts on my screams. Sometimes my applications also gray out in my apps manager. A power cycle of my phone brings my applications back but the short cuts are still gone. I noticed the apps that disappear are ones that are stored on my SD card. It appears that going to mass storage mode disconnects the card from the phone disabling the apps and canceling the shortcuts. Does anyone know how to keep this from happening? I may want to move apps to my phone memory that I do not want to disappear all the time whew using mass storage mode. I never had this problem with my EVO and used mass storage often.
Some of the pages I visit will show in mobile view even if I go to the page without typing " m. (etc).com". On my Htc Evo there was the option to just view web pages in full in not in mobile. Can the photon be set that way?? If so how can I do it.
I am running completly stock DX2, 2.3.4 version. regular wallpaper not live, 90mb of free ram when problem is happening,1.6gb free atorage in application storage, 4.06gb internal storage availible , 14.28gb availible on my sd card(16gb), 53 apps installed, version 3.1.5 of the app market.
The problem I started having a few days ago is my dx2 is very slow after using an app for more than 10 min and then backing out or closing the app it shows my home page all blank except for the black square app draw button and the wallpapper. Then in about 4-5 sec the entire home page shows as normal. This has never happened before the last few days. Have had the dx2 for 2 months now.
I have not installed anytihng new the last few days. I use the stock task manager since day one to kill all downloaded apps I dont need running. I was part of the soak test and this is the first real problem I have had. I did not do a factory reset before or after the new gb update. I was thinking of doing one now but it seems to never work no matter what problems I have had in the past with my DX I had previous.
Moved a number of apps to the Media Area, nothing seemed to change in where things where things were stored. The only thing that happens is that my apps keep disappearing. Have since moved apps back after several times of reloading.
How to wirelessly connected to their home computer? The phone sees my computer's ip addy through the Files Icon but I keeps asking for my "username" and "password". I do not have a user name or password to put in there atleast I dont think I do. I have a password for my home network but no username.
I would like to be able to set my Photon 4g so that the home screen is in landscape mode without having to open the kickstand or use a dock. Is there a simple setting or an app that will let me toggle this behavior? In my case I have a third party car dock and I want to set the home screen to landscape when I dock it and plug in the power connector.
I am having problems connecting to my home network. The phones wifi turns on fine, gets an IP address and looks fine. However, the wifi and phone strength meters grey out and there is no connectivity to the internet on the phone. The wifi network is WPA protected. The phone worked fine on a different, unprotected, network I found up the street.I have a cliq that works fine on my network.I have tried powering off and powering off in airplane mode, neither of which make a difference.
Is there a free app for a continous scrolling home screen?
Looks like I have 4 home screens and when I get to the end it doesn't scroll to the next page - I have to scroll back. By the way, coming from a 4 year old Samsung LG Rumor phone
After the recent update was push to my phone... My Home applicaion fails to start in an endless cycle. No matter what happens the home application attempts to start and fails. The only way to stop the loop is to just let the phone sit there with error message box displayed.I have wiped and factor reset the device twice and get the same result with the excpetion that now the only way to shutdown the phone is pull the battery.I have another Photon that updated just fine. Is there any hope... Can I download the update to my computer, transfer to update to SD and update via SD card. As of right now I do not know where to get the update from.
I downloaded a couple of new apps last night to help me manage my Photon a bit tighter. I downloaded Sleep Silencer (turns ringer off at night) as well as Easy Profiles (same idea - allows me to change profiles quickly so I can give my wife some rest from the notifications/ringer after 11pm). Also downloaded a new app I'd never seen before called UltimateFavs Pro Free (a nifty carousel of apps via double clicked Home button).
Well...one of these apps is now causing an issue I have no idea how to resolve. The Home/Desktop screen is black/blank. Nothing I do will get it back up again. However, everything is still working...all my notifications are coming in...but I can't read them...phone is ringing...but I cannot answer
I'm looking for a way to boot into "SAFE MODE" so I whatever process is downloading at bootup will STOP and let me get to the Home screen. Once I do that, I'll delete these apps 1 at a time until I find the one causing it.
I've looked on this thread and cannot find the steps to boot into Safe Mode. I think it's Volume Down while turning on handset, but that gets me to FastBoot and I'm not sure what that is?
request: Allow Home Screen Position to be changed from the farthest left position. I like my home screen in the middle, it allows me to put work to one side and personal to the other.
I've had this problem on and off, but lately it seems to be getting worseSome apps won't launch when I try to start them. I hit the icon and nothing happens. I know the pone can be slowed down when it's synching data and the round circle is in the bar at the tip, but this happens even when that isn't the caseIn the laswt couple of weeks, it's started happening even when I try to place phone calls. I hit the green send button and nothing.
Has any one experienced this, the music app will be playing the music wither in a play list or just an album and the program stops. I do not get a force close prompt nor is the program running. It does not do it with the same songs it is purely random when it decides to stop as far as the music I am playing.
When searching for apps in the marketplace, I get the message that there are many apps found, but I cannot get more than a screen or two to show on the phone. How do I get the remaining apps to show so I can evaluate or select them?
I want to remove phone bloat: sprint wallet, sprint zone, playbooks, sprintID, google+ etc. Seems there is a multitude of pre-loaded apps which when I extend-press to access the option window the only options are Add to Home or Add to Group, Share & Uninstall are not available. I've turned off auto-update and I'm now receiving "notifications" every 3 - 4 days to update. Anyway to remove these or just kill them completely so they no longer attempt to update themselves?
Any app I try to download wont download. It just has a continuous downloading status but never actually downloads. Has anyone seen this problem before? I spoke to a sprint rep and she did a refresh but the same problem still persists. I even restarted the phone but still have the same issue. My internet and everything else works. The rep told me I can do a factory reset to see if that will fix the problem. I will take it to a sprint store but wanted to see if anyone else had this problem and fixed it without doing a hard reset.
So about half an hr ago i got a prompt to update my phone to (45.2.5.en.US) and it installed successfully, then I had problems with WiFi and so restarted my phone, now when I try to access any app that requires WiFi it seems as though it doesn't read it. The browser works fine, but any other app doesn't.
As the title says, I don't like suggesting things like this because most of the time they're "snake oil". But, I tried the freebie version first to see if it made any difference. It did. I normally get a minimum of 8 hours of mid-level usage on my phone. J.D. has increased that by at least a couple of hours and doesn't seem to be having any of the goofiness associated with task killers.
I have used app groups heavily on my Photon. They always worked great. This weekend I decided to do a factory reset. (My boot time was really really slow). After the FR I tried to set everything up just as it was before. But now I add apps to the app groups and after a little while, most of them disappear from the app group. The apps are all still there and visible in the All Apps view. But I put six app in an app group and a little while later there are only 2 or maybe 3 or none. I tried rebooting and that didn't work. I decided that something might have gone awry with the FR so I did another, but the problem remains.
Everything else with the FR went fine except one thing. The ROM has an older Google+ app with the older icon. I updated it, but the icon didn't change. I ran it and it is indeed the new app. But the old Icon remained. I went into Play Store and uninstalled the update and re-installed it. And when I try to open the app from the Play Store, it says the app can't be found. It works fine from the launcher (stock launcher) but not from the Play store. Then a few hours later, the icon changed to the new icon. This happened with both Factory Resets. It didn't happen to any other app. Everything else is fine... And my boot times are now much shorter.
Previously had an S3 so am not completely unfamiliar with Android and Samsung phones. I cannot figure out how to add or remove a widget to any of my home pages. Anywhere there is room for an extra shortcut or widget, there is a fairly large + sign. Can add shortcuts, no prob. Shortcuts will also not move by pressing them and dragging. These issues also happen when I hit the Edit button.
I have my search function configured to show apps, but when I do a search apps don't actually show up (most of the time) unless I hit the button in the search dialog and then select Apps. Other search types (e.g., contacts) seem to work fine.
My device is a Curve 9330 running OS 6.0 Bundle 1659. This phone has worked great for several months. I noticed that the red 'hang up' key stopped working a few days ago. Around that time, I installed a few apps which have worked fine, except I noticed that one, the New York Time Crossword, did not show up on the menu. I could run the app fine from AppWorld. Today, I noticed that my messages icon is gone.
I'm stock unrooted and still waiting for the 6.0.1 update.
Starting yesterday, all of my widgets began just disappearing. I put them back, and and later in the day they're gone again. Three of them on two different home screens.
