Motorola Photon 4G :: Accidental Internal Storage Format
Jul 17, 2012
I replaced my phones SD card. I thought I still had to format the new card, so went to Menu-Settings-Storage. This is where I screwed up. Instead of selecting the SD card for formatting, I clicked on Internal Storage. A check of the old SD card made me realize many of my photos & videos were wiped.
I've tried Recuva and Stellar Phoenix recovery programs to no avail.
I just didn't realize everything was going to internal storage. Is data recovery a lost cause?
After MM update I decided to go for it and format SD card as internal storage. I received a message that my card was too slow and I should consider a better one before I moved apps to it.
I thought I got a high quality card, San Disk Extreme - link below w/ description - so I'm confused.
When I power on my N900 I get a notification message saying device storage format unsupported. Note: I don"t have a memory card, this is the Internal Memory Card. When I check (settings, memory) It says memory card corrupt 1.86GB available. When I check File Manager, It says no files/folders. First two pictures on: http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=44203 is basically how it is on mine.
I tried flashing the firmware and emmc and it worked everything was back. But when I restart my phone same notification. When run mount/home/user/MyDocs via X-Terminal. In File Manager I can see N900 folder but in Settings/Memory is still says memory corrupt. When I restart phone everything does not work again. Can someone please assits me.
I've run into a bit of a problem, as have MANY Photon 4G owners have as well.since mounting my Electrify as a USB mass storage device (the two "MOT" drives pop up in explorer), now the internal storage (which is where everything is) comes up as an unreadable drive. It mounted fine when I got it, then stopped working, then worked for a day, now it doesn't work.I've tried uninstalling drivers, taking out the battery, SD card, etc etc.
Internal storage shows mounted but nothing shows up on android? Also when I plug in atrix to a computer the only thing that show up is the external sd card?
How can I access the internal storage? When I connect via USB, the only storage shown is the SD card I have installed. I can't see the internal storage. I would like to add my pictures from my old Captivate to my new Atrix 2 but I can't. I only have a 2G SD card, which has been fine for years since I save pictures to the phone's memory and do a back up periodically. So how do I put my old pictures on the phone, not the SD card? I have tried the USB, MotoLink (which I found out isn't compatible yet), and Phone Portal...nothing. Help please! On the Captivate, I could plug in the USB and two drives would appear...one for the phone's internal memory and one for the external SD card. Does it work that way with the Atrix 2?
I've noticed recently that my Atrix will no longer unmount the internal storage (either when I select it from SD card & phone storage or when the Atrix is mounted via USB as a USB Mass Storage device). I have no issues with unmounting the external SD card.
When I try unmounting it from SD card & phone storage, it looks like it is going to unmount but doesn't and Unmount internal phone storage turns white again.
Could an app somehow be causing a lock on it somehow? Is there a way to find out which apps are utilizing the internal storage?
Is Apps2sd and partitioning still remcommend even though the admiral uses a the sd card for primary internal storage? Wasnt sure if this is even neccessary to do.I finally recieved my Admiral yesterday and I've been messing around with it ever since, its a great device so far.
Trying to copy files from my old RAZR to the new HD and it appears the internal storage is no longer available to access via the USB computer connection. Am I missing a setting or is this a permanent change in the system?
I just got my Bionic Friday night. There's supposed to be 16gb internal memory and 16gb on the sd card.Settings>Storage lists 3.47gb app space available and 8.00gb total space for internal storage. Is this correct? Are the other 4 - 4.5 gb reserved for OS etc and just not shown in storage settings.Just want to make sure there's not a defect on the phone.Settings list sd card space as 14.9gb ( I know format data uses some space). The 'Android System Info' app shows only 4gb max internal with 3.5gb free.Seems like it's only displaying the app storage space. And it only shows 8gb for the sd card.Does this app not work on the Bionic?
I have tried to transfer my music from my computer to my phone (Motorola Photon Q) and it tells me that it cannot play them. They are a MP3 format. I've tried with both my internal storage and my sd card. If MP3 format doesn't work, then what format does the music need to be for me to be able to play it on my phone?
this summer, I've broken the LCD SCREEN on my phone, MOTOROLA RAZR XT910 . There is a lot, like A LOT of informations and files that I need, I've alrady tried to connect via the HDMI CABLE, but nothing. It's connected to the computer and I can't access the files, because it says to "insert a disk into the driver". Is there any program on the NET so I can get my files back and put them on my computer?
I had my Droid Bionic hooked up once, and noted there were two seperate windows, one for the SD card, and one for internal storage. Now when I connect, it only reads the SD.
In my quest to transfer my apps from internal phone storage to my SD CCard I discovered that Motorola refers to (or is it Android) to your SD card as 'media storage'. In an attempt to use the 'Manage Apps' feature and selecting 'Media area' I see apps with check marks and those without. I thought that the ones with checkmarks are those already on the SD Card and those without are those that are not on the SD Card, but might be able to be put on the SD Card. (Another user via another question I put out there indicated that the check marks indicate whether or not an app can be stored to the SD Card . . . is that true?). At any rate I am getting the following message when I select an app and select the 'move to media storage' button.
Failure to move application. There is not enough storage left. Here is the particulars of my current state of storage -
Application Storage - 1.04 GB Internal Storage- Total Space: 4.36 GB Available Space: 4.88 GB SD Card - Total Space: 29.71 GB Available Space: 28.79 GB
*So I have plenty of SD Card space, why am I getting this error? Is the one user correct that just because I see an app in the media area tab, that doesn't mean that it can be transfered? Also, when I select an app and the button to move it to the media area is selectable (not greyed out) . . . shouldn't it be selectable without getting the failure I keep getting? Obvoiusly I have PLENTY of SD Card space, so there is something I obviously do not understand.
When I plug my RAZR into my Ford Sync it mounts internal storage instead of external (where my music resides). I believe there's a setting to stop that, but for the life of me I can't locate it now.
Can someone tell me how to move data from the internal phone storage to the SD card? Wife's Charm gets a notification that internal phone storage is low (13MB or so). Any way to move some things to the SD card?
I have the Droid 3 and I want to get rid of it. The deal breaker is the way that motorola has the internal storage partitioned and it seems they arent going to fix it. Does the razr have it partitioned so you can only use 2 gigs of internal space max for apps? If it does then I will pass on the Razr.
At my office I have Windows 7 Professional and can see both the external and internal cards from the phone. At home I have Windows 7 Home Premium and can only see the external card. If I remove the external card, I can see the internal storage, but I can't see them together. I just want to make sure this is reported somewhere. I called Motorola directly but they are reluctant to report anything.
I have a variety of apps that create export or backup files. How can the apps access the SD card storage directly? I recently replaced (under warrenty) my Bionic and it was a pain. I backed up everthing (app data that is) thinking the "backup" was going to the SD card, since all I got was a file address (or name). Once I moved the battery, SIM and SD card from one phone to the other, I realized that all the files were on the internal staroage and still on the old phone, not the SD card. This meant moving all of the hardware back to the old phone, finding all of the files stored on the internal storage, moving them to the SD card, switching everything back to the new phone and moving the files from the SD card to the internal storage - all the time hoping I got them in the right place (which wasn't necessarily the case all of the time).
So I just HAD to have the multimedia dock for my Photon 4G. It's wonderful, and more convenient than fishing for cables when I need to charge the battery.
It doesn't seem to recognize that I have plugged a USB cable from the dock to my PC? What I wanted to do, was use it in the USB Mass Storage mode just like I do with a cable--nice fast file transfers, using the file explorer on my PC...
The phone defaults to store everything on the internal storage instead of the SD card. I called Sprint, but they did not know a way. I cannot directly access the internal memory through the USB. Is there a way to make it store everything on the SD card? For instance I shoot video and it all goes into the internal memory. The only way I can get it onto my computer is to first move it to the SD card, then I can move it to my PC.
Before disconnecting my Photon from my Windows 7 computer I always eject the media prior to disconnecting the cable. I have a microSD card installed in my photon, so when I connect to the computer, two drives appear. It used to be when I clicked on the icon to eject the drives, the two drives displayed under MB855 and I could click on MB855 and eject both drives at once. I noticed recently that this is no longer the case. MB855 is greyed out and each drive must be ejected individually. At first I thought this was due to a change on my computer, but when I connected the phone to my other Windows 7 I saw the exact same behavior. When I connect my external WD HD, which has multiple partitions, to my computer it allows both partitions to be ejected at the same time, so now I'm thinking this change of behavior might be do to the recent Photon update. How to change this behavior so that both drives can once again be ejected at the same time?
So I just downloaded an icon pack and an alert popped up telling me I have 2.33mb of internal storage space left. When I go to my settings then select storage, it says I still have over 18gb available of internal storage remaining.
im using LG G3 Stylus and just updated my android to lollipop. my internal storage suppose to be 8Gb but only show 4Gb. also i have 3.2Gb misc files. how i can get the full 8Gb drive and erase the Misc Files.
I'm new to the Android world and settled on a Mytouch Slide from T-mobile. A week after buying this phone, I am running low on internal storage. The phone has 512 megs of storage, but even after I did a factory reset, I started with only 137 megs.I guess the operating system eats up most of that memory. T-mobile recommends always keeping 30 megs free, so the bottom line is I have just over 100 megs for apps.
What I don't understand is this. The phone came with an 8 gig microSD card, but I have read you can't store apps on this.So unless I am misunderstanding something here, I only have 100 megs for apps, but I have 8 gigs that are completely worthless unless I want to take tons of pictures or use my phone as an iPod. This can't be right, no company would be this stupid. So my question is, what am I doing wrong here? How am I supposed to manage my apps? I can't figure out how to move them to my SD card, and I don't even see a place on the marketplace where I can save a list of what I have downloaded for easy access later. The best I can figure, you have to constantly manage your apps, and then if you want one that you deleted, you have to search for it in the marketplace and download it again?
I just refuse to believe this is accurate. I've never had an iPhone before, but I have friends who do, and they never complain about running out of space for apps.
I need to free storage of my iphone, i clean every thing but there are 6,6 gb that no are apps, music, photos, mail. Does anybody know how to check the internal storage?
