Motorola Motoactv :: Getting Update Message But No Update?
May 25, 2012
Last night on my home computer I message popped up that MotoCast had an update. It showed it going from 1.2.9 to something starting with a 2.x number.I thought great, MotoCast is rather incomplete, has error issues and is a bit stale. When I clicked the update it then told me that there was no internet connection (not true). When I went to MotoCast and invoked check for updates it told me that I had the latest version (1.2.9).I also plugged in the MotoActv and checked for any device updates. Nothing (I'm on MA 1.6.12 N16 for my 16 GB unit).
I see that there is a new device update MA 1.7.11 MA version according to the website. But when I try to update the devise using the device manager it says update: n/a. Then i try to update the software and it says that it is already up to date. I have the 8GB version and thats what the update is for according to the website.
I have done a factory reset and updated Motocast. When the update is in progress, the device shows a image of a file with a status bar for about 2-3 seconds. Next, the image shows a file with an exclamation point. Finally, the device restarts. I get a dialoge box that states.
Just installed newest Motocast software. When I check for device update it says I have the newest version. It seems according to the website that I don't have the newest vesion. It says There is no update available for your device. Current version Blu r_version.4.54.50.Motorla-F100.Retail.en.US. How do I update the device if it says none are available.
I have tried several times to update my Motoactv (N) to the new 7.2/7.3 update released today and it continuosly fails at about 1/4 of the way through and then reboots back into the old firmware.
When I click device update in MotoCast ->I get new software is avaialble for your MOTOACTV.
Current Version: MA 1.6.7 N8 New Version: MA 1.6.13 N8
I press 'Update Now'. A dialog appears Download 0% - then another dialog pops up "The update could not be downloaded. Prease try again. If the problem persisits, please visit our support site. Your device has not been updated."
I have been trying for 2 days with the same result as above. I tried unplugging device, using a different USB port, etc. nothing seems to work.
After the last update my computer brought up a screen saying to enter in my Proxy information. This is the first time it did it and I don't have any proxy information. Since then my motoactv will connect to my network but won't sync the data over wifi. If I use usb I can sync music but no fitness data. I tried the basic stuff like forgetting my network or using my phone as a hotspot but nothing worked. So i deceided I would do a factory reset. I would only lose one day of data plus one run and one golfing outing. I do the factory reset and now it won't connect at all. It gives me an error code 360.Now to my GPS problem. Before the update it would lock on in 10- 15 sec. Now it takes almost the full 5 min and sometimes it won't do it at all. Everything was fine before the update.
When I plugged in my MotoActiv golf edition, I received a screen message that there was a new software update and to connect to receive it. I connected, but nothing happens. When I click the link for "Check for Updates", again, nothing happens. Motocast USB is launched, although I do not see the icon in my Macbook Pro dock.
I plugged in the Moto and discovered that there was a device update. In light of problems I was having (described in a separate thread) I did not have time to let it run. Decided to do so in the evening, but was unprepared for the rigamarole I encountered. The device would not update until I updated Motocast, which took FOREVER. And after all of that, the Motoactv won't even update. The device manager box tells me that my Motoactv is running the most current software version and that that version is N/A. 0 for 2; my device is not running the current version and the version it is running is 1.7.2 N8, not N/A. That is not the version number I saw this morning when Motocast informed me that there was an update available.
My motoactv will not update. I used it running for the first time yesterday and the gps was lousy. I kept losing the location lock. I know the last update was pulled. Is there a way to get it to update to at least the first maintenance release.
I would like to know if anyone else has noticed their MotoActv flaking out when it detects the availability of new updates. I would really hate to think that Motorola would be foolish enough to do this intentionally just to encourage people to update their devices. However, my Motoactv has never had the massive behavioral problems that I see upon update notification at any other time.Just to give you guys a baseline, I normally burn just over 2K calories in a day if I don't work out, and my battery is normally at about 70-80% after being unplugged for 12-16 hours.
The first time that I noticed the problem, the device told me that I burned over 30K calories in one day, and the battery life was completely horrible that day. I don't remember exactly, but I believe that it was down to about 10% by the end of the day.Now today, the battery life was horrible again. It actually died somewhere during the day, after being unplugged for less than 8 hours and not doing any workout. Once I got home and plugged it back in, it had completely forgotten even the time and date. I let it charge enough to power back on, and low and behold it told me their was an update available! This is completely unacceptable. For a device to run just fine right up until the time that it detects an available update, and then for it to start acting like a complete piece of garbage is ridiculous.I really hope that Motorola has an explanation for this. But if it reads something like, "The updates address the problems you're experiencing, please update the device and you should no longer experience the problems." I'm going to be pissed.
How time of day is updated on the Motoactv. Since it has gps I assume it can access gps time, but I can't figure out if the device's time is updated, or if one has to update it manually.
I am having issues with the GPS since I installed the new blur update. No matter what dorking pose I use (left my arm raised above and away from my body in the middle of a football field) the GPS doesnt lock on. I sync my device right before a run as stated on here somewhere and still do not get any results. This will be the third time I have tried to lock on in 3 days with no luck.
I would like to know how, other than plugging my MOTOACTV into my computer, can I download the update. I've tried several times without success to receive it
I can not get my Motoactv software updated.I did a search of the website and it sends me to a page that just lists the updates, but nothing about how to do the update.I have a Mac, and have installed Motocast on the Mac....when that's running, I select Check for Updates, but that only checks for updates to the Motocast software, not the Motoactv software.
Ever since upgrading the firmware on my Motoactv to MA 1.7.2 E8, I've had a problem with the Pedometer.I can't really say what it is doing on a general day to day basis, but when on the cross trainer at the gym it appears to be losing steps - however, it does appear to be counting them. For example, yesterday morning I went to the gym and as usual I set my Motoactv to Elliptical workout and put it in my pocket. When I started, my steps for the day were around 1700.Part way through my workout, I checked my Motoactv and it was showing over 4500 steps so it all seemed to be fine, and it was clearly registering my "steps" on the elliptical. When I stopped, after 1 hour 45 minutes, I checked my Motoactv and it was showing 1600 steps - less than I started with! According to prevoius workouts on the earlier firmware, I'd expect my steps to be approximately 14000-15000 higher than when I'd started after such a workout. All the stats in "Recent" were consistent with earlier workouts of a similar magnitude and time (i.e. distance, calories, avg/max stride rate). Also, if I look on the Motoactv website, I can see my strides being in excess of 14000.This is the second time I've noticed my steps being way off, though I don't always check my steps. However, I'm fairly certain it was working perfectly prior to the latest firmware upgrade. I definitely clocked more than 20000 steps during the day in the past, so if it is "rolling over" back to zero, it wasn't doing this in the past.
I just plugged in and setup my 16GB Motoactv on my Mac with current version "Blur_Version.4.54.50.Motorola-F100.retail.en.US", and the pop-up says "There is no update available for your device".
But the website says new version for the 16GB available: "Blur_Version.4.56.76.Motorola-F100.Retail.en.US"
Is there something I can do - or was the update actually pulled?
A workout I completed on Friday appears on the MOTOACTV but not[URL]. A couple of test workouts today have synced just fine, but the Friday workout still does not appear on the site.
I just bought an 8GB MOTOACTV yesterday in Hong Kong and the existing version of software is 1.7.3 A8. I tried to install MOTOCAST on 2 PCs (system: WinXP & Windows Vista) and both are upgraded to 2.0.31, but when I check the software update for MOTOACTV itself, the MOTOCAST told me no update for me for the timebeing.
The fact is there is 1.7.11 A8 out there and maybe 1.7.12 A8 as the guy introduced me to buy have the exact same device (only this version in same store) with Golf function on. Meanwhile, when the device connect to WiFi yesterday evening, I saw once the words of "Software Update Availabe, please connect the computer to update" shown on the device.
Monday afternoon - ACTV fully charged, left on, BT connected to my ATRIX.
Tuesday morning - ACTV down 10%, went for 4 hour 30 minute outdoor cycle with music, speed/cadence, and HRM (GPS too). Left on when workout was finished
Wednesday morning - Battery at 20%, went for 1 hour outdoor cycle, same features used as Tuesday morning. When I pulled into the house, the 10% battery warning appeared on the screen.
So, I got about 33.5 hours of standby with BT active plus almost 6 hours of workouts on a single charge (never even connected it to my computer).
I have repeatedly asked MotoCast to check for updates and it says no new updates exist. I have the 8 GB model. The FAQ page says the most recent update is 1.6.5 N8.
Everything was working fine until last night when I did the recent update. I updated fine, synced a new playlist charged up and popped out for a run this morning. Very surprisingly the GPS picked up straight away but it was very quickly apparent that the audio had gone. I say gone but not completely.. there was no 'workout started' and no music playing. 1st thing was to obviously turn the volume up which when max volume was reached I did hear the beep.
Next after removing the headphones, plugging them into my phone and using the free app that plays music to the beat of my steps (brilliant) i got home and did a factory reset. No difference, can hear the max volume beep but nothing else, I've tried other headphones and the same. When I go to the music and press play nothing happens literally.. no pause button comes up... it must be registering the headphones because I can hear the max volume beep but its the only thing I can think..
I just got a 16gb unit, got it installed to my pc, but having the following problems
2. The unit is currently with 4.54.61, according to the forum there is an update that was released in early Jan. When I try to update using the update feature in the motocast USB software I get a message that there is no available update and the unit has the latest firmware. how or where to get the update?
Received a new 16GB Motoactv this evening. Completed set up of MotoCast on my MAC. Unit was working fine, GPS / Radio etc.
Then checked for software update, it found 4.56.76, downloaded the sw and started to update. After about 30mins the MAC had a box saying updating, do not disconnect and the screen of the unit seems to be cycling. Initially I'd see the red batwings then an image of the unit and the progress bar underneath. The yellow moves about 1/3 along the bar then stops, after a minute or so the unit seems to power cycle > batwings > and so on....
After about 45 mins I disconnected the unit from the USB/MAC, tried a start + pwr reset but I still only get to this cycling mode (batwings > image + progress bar). Unit was charged for about an hour before I started the initial set up.
Has anyone else noticed a significant decrease in how long your MOTOACTV lasts on a charge? I can usually leave my device off the charger all weekend without it dying without using it. But this weekend I had to charge it 4 times just to keep it from turning off due to lack of battery charge. I am not using all the new Twitter or Facebook notifications and the Bluetooth on my phone was off all weekend too. I did notice that if I go to Wireless Settings my MOTOACTV shows connected to the Wifi hotspot
On the Motoactv Software Upgrade 7.2 release notes it shows a "create workout" screen with options I am not seeing (such as warm-up and cooldown). If I add a new workout, these do not show up as options. Why? Has this update fixed the issue where the unit does not cycle through the stages automatically?
Been tring to update software for a couple weeks now. Every time I attempt to update I am given the following message - "The server is temporarily unavailable due to maintenance. Please come back later to check for updates." Been in contact with customer service a couple times and have not heard back from anyone yet.
Under Fitness Zones, Basic Heart Rate Zones, it has my resting heart rate as 60 bpm as detected by MOTOACTV. Max HR is set as 185 but I want to update that, manually, to 190. When I make the change, there is no OK or SUBMIT button
Problem: When I attempt to do a course update or add new course it will run for hours (circle keeps spinning) and drain the battery. I reboot the device and it shows the last update was done that day (no time statement to confirm last attempt successful) but I'm not sure if it completed properly. The mulitple segment course update works great (hence my attempt to update my courses) at Flanders Valley, NJ.Has the update feature been fixed so changes to skydroid can be updated to the MotoActv?
