Motorola Droid X2 :: Display Screen Timeout Resets To Never?
Sep 19, 2011
Intermittenly the display screen timeout resets to NEVER. Nothing that I do (or at least so I think) causes this. I don't know it until I notice that the battery is dangereously low. Don't have any apps that may cause this that I know of.
Used to have a similiar situation with the Original Droid where it would reset to 30 seconds.
Does this happen to anyone else and if so how did you get around it? Or is it yet another bug in the operating system? Happened pre-GB also. Doesn't seem to be more or less frequent with GB.

Any way to decouple the display timeout from the screen lock? In other words, when the display times out after 30 secs., I would like to just touch the display to wake it up rather than going through the 2 step process of unlocking the screen.

i want to set the screen timeout like the way i had it on the original droid. while plugged in, the screen stays on, while unplugged, it only stays on for however long i have it set to. yes, i know how to set it, but i cant seem to find the option for plugged in and unplugged.also, another question. is there an app or widget i can download for free that is alot like the clock/alarm on the original droid, where is shows the weather and auto dims. the clock on the d4 is garbage.

First Maxx had the display screen timeout set to 2 minutes. Whether plugged in to charger or not, after two minutes the screen went BLANK (locked), and stayed such until I unlock it.Due to issues with it automatically redialing the last number (did my voice mail 51 times before I powered it off), got a replacement. This one after the 2 minutes, the screen would DIM, but would not go BLANK, but only when plugged in to the charger. Off the charger, 2 minutes, screen goes blank.Verizon has been no help on this. This phone kept losing the data connection, so they have sent me a 3rd... and it does the same with regards to the screen going blank.

Right after I have rebooted my Droid my sound continues when the screen times out. However, somewhere along the way something changes and when the screen times out the sound goes too.
I can't force the sound to stay on when the screen times out after that; unless I got through the tedious process of shutting down and rebooting.

So I broke down and experimented with the mirror mode today. That was awesome. What wasn't awesome is that the screen timesout and that's it for the audio. So if I want to listen to my music, do I have to set the screen timeout for never? Is there no specific HDMI mirror mode setting for this? I looked around and couldn't find one.

The last time the display functioned I was starting a play-list for my shower. I adjusted the volume once or twice without lighting the screen, and after drying off stopped the music by removing the speaker jack again without lighting the screen. The device then went into my shirt pocket and I ate dinner then watched a movie but when I tried to do a little surfing before bed the screen wouldn't light up. I had seen it light up the buttons but take a few seconds for the display when the CPU was busy so I waited, nothing happened. I pulled the battery and tried again, nothing on the screen. But then I discovered that the touch sensor was still functioning, I could swipe to unlock and power down in the standard fashion just blind. I have examined the water stickers they are both white with bright red X's.
While writing this question (I am sure many of you already know this fact) I discovered that the display of my device is in fact three distinct functional parts. The capacitive touch screen still in operation on my device, the LCD image generator also still in operation, and the Led illumination source which for lack of a more accurate description is burned out.So my question is how could this occur, is it software or hardware, and what are my recourses?

I recently broke my droid. The phone still turns on, but the screen is disconnected. I know the phone is working and I know that I have text messages, but I cant read them because the screen is no longer communicating with the phone. Is there any way to display the Droid screen onto the computer so I could navigate and use the phone just to check some text messages that I know I've missed and need to see?

I know this is a Droid X issue as well. Whenever I un-mount my Droid 3 from my Mac Powerbook G4 all preset ringtones & notifications are reset to random ringtones/songs/notifications. I have to manually reset all my ringtones and notifications back to the sounds I want. It seems when the SD-cards are mounted in Mass Storage Mode, the info on the SD-cards is no longer available to the phone so it reassigns the ringtones and notifications. Once the SD-cards are re-mounted on phone the pre-set ringtones and notifications are no longer set. Unless there is a fix, I am looking to maybe root the phone and copy all my ringtones and notification tones to the system's media folder so they are permanently available to the phone.

I just noticed this happen while I was trying to swipe the homescreen lock while the phone was in the middle of rotating from portrait to landscape, but my background reset itself to the default background while I was trying to do this. This only seems to be an issue for the "non blur" launcher. I have never encountered this using a third party launcher.

After completing a phone call or when the phone times out, it freezes and nothing will unlock it other than pulling the battery out. If I hard press the power button, the Phone Options screen will pop-up but none of the selection will work thru the touch-screen. While the [Phone Options] screen is open I can open the slide keyboard and use the mice-like button to scroll down and take the [Power off] option. Phone will work again after pulling the battery or powering it off thru the keyboard (at least this will save me the time of removing the battery). It seems that both actions (call and time out) send some kind to signal to the screen to lock it. When pressing the power button I will see the slide bar to unlock it but the screen is frozen and nothing will make it work. Luckily for Motorola the phone's warranty just expired (7/28/11).I have done both, Factory data reset and Wipe data/factory reset (Power key + "x") but nothing helped. I have looked out there in we but nothing similar.Does anyone have experienced this? - As you can imagine this is extremely painful and annoying. I ended up increasing the timeout to the max (30 minutes), but obviously jeopardized the battery life. I have to charge the phone almost every 2 hours.

I'm not sure if I have the terminology right - but on the active display, is there a way to add additional features? I'd like to be able to see temperature (and today's weather upon click) and battery life. I could see these without 'logging in' to the phone. The screen that I'm thinking about is the one that shows the time and notification of unread messages.

If marathon mode is set and screen timeout is set after you power down the unit and then power it up again it keep marathon mode set but looses the screen timeout selection. You have to go in and set screen timeout again before you start the run. I think this is a bug. I saw someone mention it in another posting. I wanted to bubble it to separate thread so a Moto eng could see it and hopefully fix it in the next firmware release.

My new S5 keeps getting its display time out value reset to a value of "()", there is no numeric value between the parenthesis. I switch it back to 15 or 30 and seemingly randomly it gets changed. It happened just now after plugging it in to a charger.
Is there some way to see what changes it? Its getting super annoying, happens 2-3 times a day. I run very few apps... and most of those I ran on my old thunderbolt with no issues. Several I also run on my wifes new S5 but she has no problem with hers.

I got this phone for a relative and it arrived today. After setting it up, transferring contacts over and making it easy for her I'm stuck on this simple option. I've looked for over 30 minutes and searched all over using various keywords but I can't find a single answer. Where do you find the display timeout setting on this phone?! It defaults to something stupidly short like 10 seconds when it should be around 30 seconds at least. How fast do they think people read text messages? If I can't change this setting I don't think they'll want to keep the phone which is a shame as it looks quite nice in general.

i have the timeout for my screen set for two minutes. this is normally good as my major use is checking e-mail or surfing the web. if i am watching a Internet video longer than 2 minutes or using navigation the xoom shuts off and i have to press the power button and then play (if i was watching a video) to continue for another two minutes until it shuts off again. here's my question.. am i missing something in settings or do i just have to adjust the screen timeout time every time i want to use an app that doesn't require me touching the screen for 2 minutes?

The camera app on my Z3 times out, and the camera app closes and returns me to the main screen, after 30 seconds. Sometimes that isn't long enough -- I'm waiting for a specific thing to happen that I want to photograph, like the start of a sporting event, and reopening the camera app is a pain.

I want to set up my 5800 to work in the car as a music/navigation/handsfree device. I created a Car profile with ring volumes and other stuff set up just the way I want it. However, I cannot make the screen not to timeout and turn off. Basically, the automatic screen lock is deactivated and shouldn't get into way. When I plug the aux cable into the phone I select the Music Stand accessory which is the only one that has a Screen control setting. It is set to On, from the default Automatic. However, the screen goes black anyway, but the buttons stay lit.

My Droid 2 Global started doing that today. I would press the button on top that turns ON the display, and the login screen appeared, as usual. Then, when I attempted to insert my password, the display would suddenly turn off before I could go any further, and when I pressed the top button again, it had returned to the initial login screen. I couldn't get past the password entry! I typed faster, got my password in, then went to settings to confirm the display time: it was set for 2 minutes to display shutoff. I then removed my password, just in case I couldn't get back on! Periodically, again, the display turned off very quickly for no reason, during the next hour or so. During that time, I turned my Droid off, then on, but it still didn't cooperate. Next, I removed the battery, and replaced it. Still no luck. The phone wasn't overly warm (that's ANOTHER question--why does it get so hot!), as it has been on other occasions.!

I had strange apps using up my battery after I did the upgrade.I managed to get them under control using the cache clear, restart, and *288 option 2 but now I'm seeing my battery life fading quickly again and noticed my screen is using up 50%.Is that normal battery usage for Display? I have my display set to auto brightness, no auto rotate, no roaming banners and time out 2 minutes
