Motorola Droid Razr :: Battery Life Improved With Smart Actions Disabled
Jan 21, 2013
Getting a battery life increase with the smart actions app completely disabled. Before it was constantly running in the background even with no actions on so yesterday I disabled it completely and saw a very noticeable battery increase.does it really happened due to removal of smart actions app ?
Anyone know of a web site that lists Smart Actions that folks have created? Seems to me that this would be a great thing to share. I can see where the Smart Actions app could be very useful.
I have read as many threads as I can find, but I still have this problem. I delete all the Smart Actions and that works for a while, then it comes back again. According to Status, my system is up to date
see Smart Actions include the ability to control MEDIA volume in addition to the existing ringtone volume. The best examples of when this might come in handy:In the car, being able to turn media volume up to loud so you can stream music through your stereo and control it entirely through the car stereo. I find mysef always having to find my phone and turn media up on the phone first, so I don't accidentally blow a speaker when I get in the car without the phone connected. At work being able to turn the media volume to mute. This way I can sneak a round of Scramble or Words with Friends in without my cube neighbors hearing the tell tale sounds of the games.
I thought ICS was suppose to extend battery life? My MAXX wont last very long lately since the ICS, And its suppose to have a very long battery life, what happened?
I've had the RAZR for a few days now, and one of the main things I used my last phone for (droid x) was to listen to music at work.I've been listening to music these past three days, and when I look at the battery use chart, there is something called "Mediaserver" using up a significant amount of battery life (~20% or more if I've listened to a lot of music). On my droid x I never saw this process on my battery use, and I am wondering if there is an option or something that I am overlooking that is increasing the amount of battery drain from listening to music.I listen to mp3s on the stock music app and to mp3 and m4a podcasts using Pocket Casts.I can't say for sure, but Mediaserver seems to not appear on the battery list until I start listening to music and to not increase the amount of battery that it uses while not listening to music.
My girlfriend owns a Razr and every since the ICS update she has been telling me her phone has giving her problems. It gets hot when listening to pandora or videos after a short time in use. Her battery life wasnt the greatest from the beginning but after ICS it's worse. I was suppose to do this a week ago after I mentioned. Now shes threatening to take my Maxx.
Seems since the update yesterday AM my battery has been draining faster. Haven't made any changes to smart actions or any other settings, but seems I'm down about another 20% at the end of work day the last 2 days. Still not dissatisfied by any means, just curious. Also, last 2 days Android OS has been top on battery use list, compared to prior to update, where it was farther down. Also, never dropped 4G prior to last outage, and now post update/post outage seem to be waffling much more between 3G and 4G.
what the Life span of the battery in the maxx is. I know usage, number of charges, and other factors go into it. There must be a average life. Since the battery is not replaceable, it leads one to wonder ( or at least the severe Type A's to wonder)
It doesn't happen all the time, but maybe once a week. I'll be using it and all of the sudden the battery will drop by 20% to 40% in a matter of seconds. See the attached screen shot for an example. This happened both before and after the Ice Cream Sandwich update. I haven't been able to link it to a particular app or service. I have done a hard reset on my phone and the problem persists. Also, with the example shown in my screen shot, I was doing a Google search using the chrome browser and the battery level dropped from 40% to 5% in a matter of seconds. And as you can see the battery level hasn't changed since, it has been at 5% for two hours or so without a change.
I was working after lunch and noticed that my phone was getting hotter and hotter. When I looked at the screen it showed constant data up and down. I wasnt syncing anything or surfing but it wouldnt stop. I shut down and restarted and even did the software "Battery Pull" but soon enough it would start data again and the battery would be eaten up. It was on 4G. Then finally it would stop an hour or so later. If I start the music app again it starts all over. Here is a thread on another site where we are trying to narrow it down. They think it may be the media server as it shows a lot of data usage!
Ever since the ICS update my battery life is 2x worse than before on Gingerbread. I have noticed on here that I am not the only one with this issue. Is there and options I can do to improve battery life? I noticed there is no way to toggle back and forth betwen 3G and 4G and background data cant be turned off now. I have also noticed they got rid of the task manager that actually worked and force quit the apps. I had to force quit ever app manually ever since the update. Every app was running in the background. I got this phone for the extended battery life and if I dont use the phone all day and by the end of the night I have 20% battery left, something is wrong. ICS has a lot of great features, but if I had a chance to un-install ICS I would.
Since the .893 update has come out and the smart actions app from the RAZR was not in it. Does anyone think we will ever be getting this app in an OTA? This is one app that seems like it is useful. This would at least be a little bright spot in my rather abysmal Bionic "experience".
I saw that there was an update to Smart Actions yesterday in the Google Play Store. When I tried to apply the update, I received a message that there was an error downloading the update. I could not get this message to clear, so I tried uninstalling the previous updates and then re-applying the updates. Now, I get the message "Your order is pocessing, your item will be available in a few minutes." I have cleared cache and data for the play store and rebooted my Droid Razr several times, but I cannot cleare this message. Anyone else experiencing issues with applying the latest Smart Actions update?
Yesterday I had a process that started running and draining my battery. It appeared in the battery usage as "rild". There have been other posts here and in other android forums about this same phenonemon happening. I shut down, it ended the process and hasn't reappeared today, but it seems this is happening with Motorola phones, not just the RAZR?
I just noticed my SAs were wiped out with the update. Not a biggie but also not expected. I do see where they added some SAs and UI changes with the update.
I am trying to setup a rule with smart actions to look at the wireless i connect to as a trigger then change the volumes of the phone when it detects my work wirelessProblem is smart actions only allows me to change the ringtone volume i need to turn down the notification volume as weel but there is no option for this WHY?
Have just bought a new UK RAZR XT910. Have set up smart actions and have them enabled, but no matter what I do, disable, re-enable, delete, re-create, reboot, check DST time settings, nothing works. Can someone please tell me where I am going wrong.
i have the motorola razr uk version but my smart cations app wont activate / deactivate the profile when it should, im having to do it manually. its version 1.0
if you set something to happen on a certain Day between a certain time the phone just ignores the fact that it's the wrong day to perform that action and just looks at the time ?
Been trying to set up some rules based on recomendations from this vid url...where they suggest using the Smart Action trigger for "Motion Detector" to save battery, and which looks pretty useful! However, I have a UK version of the RAZR and the Motion Detector feature does not seem to be enabled! Why is that? Is there a way of enabling it? Whilst I am on this topic I was also wondering if there is a way to restore the Smart Action Samples, as I managed to delete a couple of them accidentally.
I was just reading a press release about features the new Moto Droid Razr will have and they listed "Smart Actions", which is a very very neat feature. What "Smart Actions" does is enable the phone's user to set up certain conditions and situations that would set off specific actions by the phone. Sure, you can probably find a similar app in the Android Market, but isn't it nicer to find this app on your phone right out of the box?internal clock on the handset and the GPS, you can set your screen to lower the brightness by 20% at a certain time of day, or turn off the sound at a certain location. Not only can this function as a saver (increasing battery life by up to 30% according to Motorola) by turning on and off certain features at specific times or places, you can also use "Smart Actions" to make sure that your favorite website is up on the browser, refreshed and up to date when you get up in the morning. You can also set your not to ring while at a meeting. Motorola includes some preloaded and suggested rules to help get you started.
On my Razr Maxx I could select 'play playlist' as part of a smart action. My Razr Maxx HD doesn't have that option. It does have a 'play music' option but when selected it says no playlists found despite their existence on the sd card and in internal memory.
At home I am pretty sure it does the same thing. This morning when I got to the office, I noticed it was telling me that I have a wifi available. Open it up and there was the known wifi I have been connected to before, all week. Odd though, it says disabled but when i click it to connect, it says obtaining ip but then does back to not connected and says disabled. So basically I cannot connect to the wifi and I am 110% positive I have the correct password since I have connected to it just yesterday. Also curious why it isn't just connecting automatically to a known wifi. I have checked and others are on it right now.
I got a new Maxx HD today and have it all set with a lot of apps disabled. I checked the system update and there's the small bug-fix update that was pushed out a couple of weeks ago ready to be downloaded. My question is should I enable the apps again and do the update or is it safe to do the update with the apps disabled?
i have disabled Internet, play books, and play movies several times and they always come back after a reboot. how do i stop this from happening? i am sick of bloat i do not want! is verizon, or google, or whoever even listening to us?
Does anyone have any ideas about why Moto might have decided to kill Flash on our phones before it was necessary? It's not an ICS thing, because my GNex still has Flash and it works well. I know that Adobe will not be allowing new downloads from the Play Store starting on 8/15 (but they will still be providing bug fixes for those who already have it) & that Flash Player is not supported in Jelly Bean, but what gives with Moto killing Flash in our ICS update? Now, whenever I visit a page that has an embedded Flash video in the browser, it crashes the browser. :(
Addl. details: Basically, when you upgrade, the Adobe Flash Player app gets uninstalled from your phone. If you reinstall it from the Play Store, it won't work for embedded videos on websites. Unfortunately, many websites still use Flash for their embedded videos. :( Hopefully websites will start switching over to HTML5. This isn't just a bug.. there is an actual process running on the phone called FlashRemoval that Moto slapped in there. I expect to get Jelly Bean ASAP, since Moto prepared the phone for not having Flash so early. ;)
I was part of the soak test, so the first 2 days were spent trying the new software out. So I didn't really put much thought into the fact that my battery was dying much faster. However, since there was really nothing earth shattering on the new update, the next 4 days were back to my normal usage patten. Normally, I would very seldom run my battery dead in a day. 30-40% was typical. But I have hit 10% every single day since the update.
So out of curiosity, what default apps/services do you have disabled to achieve the best SOT? I've been experimenting enabling/disabling some applications and it seems to directly impact battery life.
For instance disabling "Samsung Push Services" seems to bring a little boost to battery performance.
Carrier bloat aside because that's a given to be disabled.
