Yesterday I had a process that started running and draining my battery. It appeared in the battery usage as "rild". There have been other posts here and in other android forums about this same phenonemon happening. I shut down, it ended the process and hasn't reappeared today, but it seems this is happening with Motorola phones, not just the RAZR?

My battery life is fine, but her battery life is significantly shorter than mine due to a process named RILD, which from the Battery Stats is consuming a lot of battery. Weird because my D4 doesn't show this process running.I have done some basic web research and discovered it is the Radio Layer Interfaceon why it keeps coming on, staying on and how to stop it in a kind and gentle manner.

View 14 Replies View RelatedAt about 4pm this afternoon, my phone alerted me that my battery was down to 15% charge. This was about 6 hrs earlier than normal based on recent usage. I checked my battery usage and RILD was at the top of the list at 42%. Display is usually my biggest hitter.This is the first time that I've seen RILD. What is it doing, why is it using so much battery and can I do anything about it?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI've had the RAZR for a few days now, and one of the main things I used my last phone for (droid x) was to listen to music at work.I've been listening to music these past three days, and when I look at the battery use chart, there is something called "Mediaserver" using up a significant amount of battery life (~20% or more if I've listened to a lot of music). On my droid x I never saw this process on my battery use, and I am wondering if there is an option or something that I am overlooking that is increasing the amount of battery drain from listening to music.I listen to mp3s on the stock music app and to mp3 and m4a podcasts using Pocket Casts.I can't say for sure, but Mediaserver seems to not appear on the battery list until I start listening to music and to not increase the amount of battery that it uses while not listening to music.
View 6 Replies View RelatedMy girlfriend owns a Razr and every since the ICS update she has been telling me her phone has giving her problems. It gets hot when listening to pandora or videos after a short time in use. Her battery life wasnt the greatest from the beginning but after ICS it's worse. I was suppose to do this a week ago after I mentioned. Now shes threatening to take my Maxx.

Haven't made any changes to smart actions or any other settings, but seems I'm down about another 20% at the end of work day the last 2 days. Still not dissatisfied by any means, just curious. Also, last 2 days Android OS has been top on battery use list, compared to prior to update, where it was farther down.Also, never dropped 4G prior to last outage, and now post update/post outage seem to be waffling much more between 3G and 4G.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have heard many conflicting versions of the optimal way to maximize the battery's life. It would be great to get some clarity from the experts.
1. Can you charge the phone at any time or should the battery be drawn all of the way down?
2. Once the battery is fully charged, should it be immediately disconnected from the charger, or is it OK to leave the charger attached?
3. if you are using the device, and it is below full charge, is it OK to have it charging while you are using it?
It doesn't happen all the time, but maybe once a week. I'll be using it and all of the sudden the battery will drop by 20% to 40% in a matter of seconds. See the attached screen shot for an example. This happened both before and after the Ice Cream Sandwich update. I haven't been able to link it to a particular app or service. I have done a hard reset on my phone and the problem persists. Also, with the example shown in my screen shot, I was doing a Google search using the chrome browser and the battery level dropped from 40% to 5% in a matter of seconds. And as you can see the battery level hasn't changed since, it has been at 5% for two hours or so without a change.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI was working after lunch and noticed that my phone was getting hotter and hotter. When I looked at the screen it showed constant data up and down. I wasnt syncing anything or surfing but it wouldnt stop. I shut down and restarted and even did the software "Battery Pull" but soon enough it would start data again and the battery would be eaten up. It was on 4G. Then finally it would stop an hour or so later. If I start the music app again it starts all over. Here is a thread on another site where we are trying to narrow it down. They think it may be the media server as it shows a lot of data usage!

View 1 Replies View RelatedEver since the ICS update my battery life is 2x worse than before on Gingerbread. I have noticed on here that I am not the only one with this issue. Is there and options I can do to improve battery life? I noticed there is no way to toggle back and forth betwen 3G and 4G and background data cant be turned off now. I have also noticed they got rid of the task manager that actually worked and force quit the apps. I had to force quit ever app manually ever since the update. Every app was running in the background. I got this phone for the extended battery life and if I dont use the phone all day and by the end of the night I have 20% battery left, something is wrong. ICS has a lot of great features, but if I had a chance to un-install ICS I would.

My battery life had improved a little but...Even when the screen is off and I'm not using the phone, Phone Idle takes up most of the energy while in that state. Last night Phone Idle was on 6:51:43 while the phone was off of the battery for 7:53:53.On top of this, the phone is awake almost all night. It does drain only a little bit at night.During use Phone Idle still is on much of the time. My phone drains rapidly when the screen is on.The phone has signal all day and night. I'm in a good coverage area.My questions are: Is it normal for the phone to be awake when not in use for most of the time when not in use? Should Phone Idle be on most of the time when the phone has consistent good signal?

So I didn't really put much thought into the fact that my battery was dying much faster. However, since there was really nothing earth shattering on the new update, the next 4 days were back to my normal usage patten. Normally, I would very seldom run my battery dead in a day. 30-40% was typical. But I have hit 10% every single day since the update.
View 4 Replies View RelatedMy only concern is the battery. I'm not exactly what you would call a heavy user but usually look for about 3-4 hours screen time on an average. Mostly done by browsing the web, social media, A LOT of texting, a few YouTube videos and some Bluetooth streaming with my car AND my Moto 360.
So this things got a 3900 mah battery yet why does it feel closer to 2800. I understand that the device does have the higher resolution display and whatnot but do people not realize this thing has a 3900 MAH BATTERY?! Shouldn't that blow everything else out of the water? Like not even be close to any other phone. I switch between a Note 4 and the Turbo and I can get more screen on time with the Note 4 (5.5-6.5). Keep in the mind the Note 4 only has a 3250 battery (I think) and the same resolution display yet it's much larger. AND it runs touchwiz, something that destroys battery life.
One thing I was really hoping would change with the update was an improvement in battery life. I know it is too soon to tell -- and I'm playing with the phone more, so that has an impact -- but, if anything, I think I'm getting shorter battery life than I was before. Anyone else have any observations regarding battery life?

There doesn't seem to be a setting to set a refresh rate, and no matter if they are on the homescreen or not I notice that they are loading themselves into RAM anyway. For instance, social networking, weather, news, bookmarks widgets, etc are auto-loading into the RAM.So the question is, will it make any difference if I add the blur widgets to the homescreens or not? Would there be a performance/battery/ram difference if they were not on the homscreens? Could I get better battery life with or without the widgets, or does it make any difference so I might as well add them to the homescreens?I pretty much have OCD when it comes to trying to squeaze every last bit of performance out of my devices.

This was a typical day of use and I usually get to bedtime on battery day #2 before I need to recharge. Imagine my surprise when I looked at my phone today and I had only 30% battery remaining! Looked at the battery monitor and WeatherBug had used 18% of the battery. Seems it was awake for hours. I hadn't changed any settings and I had previously not noticed any battery drain from WeatherBug. (Settings are on update every 30 minutes, and I have location services off.)
View 14 Replies View RelatedI see a lot of discussion about bad battery life. I was experiencing it as well. Clearing the partition cache got me from 50% at the end of the work day to 75%. I think this should be put somewhere for all turbo owners to see as a "get your phone, immediately do this". And stickied. Just a thought and did not want to burry it in the long battery thread.

View 15 Replies View RelatedI'm lucky that I live in an area where I have pretty consistent 4G service. My battery life with my Bionic seemed to be improving over time and prior to yesterdays update I was getting a good 12+ hours of regular life with a few bluetooth phone calls and regular push emails and by 7pm I would be at 40%. I thought that was pretty decent. Today after 4.5 hours I was down to 50% and now after 6.hours and 33 minutes I'm at 30%. In that interim period I have not made any phone calls, nor played any games, nor used the phone for anything other than checking my status of apps and battery life.
The one change I did notice was "wakelock" with the " " marks on the word included on the list of things using battery. When I queried this forum as to what this is, not an app I uploaded to the phone, I found out it is something that Moto added as a power management tool. There is no way for us that I can tell to manipulate this tool. I have a problem with having a tool put on my device that slows my battery and I can't either delete it or manipulate it. I won't root my phone.
When I look at the battery use in Settings/Battery Information it shows items such as WIFI at 4+% ( WIFI not even on) or a game I played (today Jewels Star at 25% - only was to make this one disappear is to uninstall the program, this is true with any game I play). My question is, is this information about what WAS running or information on what IS running. or both.

View 14 Replies View RelatedSo I was on a road trip today and when I plugged in the phone in the car dock I had full battery. Then I turned on navigation and slacker radio. About an hour travel the battery started to charge according to the battery icon. My question is, why did the battery discharge while on external power? Does the factory charger not have enough capacity to charge the phone while being used? If so something is wrong with the whole designe of the charging system.

It has did this twice in the last week. I have not run it til it shuts off so I don't know how long it would last from 20% to being out of juice.
View 6 Replies View RelatedYesterday I checked my battery usage and Moto cast was at 20%! I did not transfer any files between the PC and the phone and when I do, I still do it by copying and pasting. I did however find some Amazon downloads that were in the phone's internal memory and transfered them to the SD card. When I used "My Files" to move those files, I first used the "move" command which did not seem to do anything. Did this activate Motocast? I eventually moved them by using copy and then paste on the phone. Here's what I got in the battery manager right now. I'm at 90%
