Motorola Droid 3 :: Reset "storage Encryption" Setting?
Nov 9, 2011
We were doing some testing with Exchange and Active Sync for a project at work. Unfortunately the default "ActiveSync" profile had "require encryption" checked and when I set up a test Exchange mailbox on my phone this setting got applied. We have since decided that in this instance we don't need to require encryption so I created a new Exchange policy. I removed the Exchange mailbox from my phone and then re-added the account with the new policy applied. However, I am getting messages that encryption is required. I looked at my phone and discovered that the "storage encryption" setting on my phone is still checked and greyed out even after I removed the Exchange mailbox from my phone and rebooted it.

Does anyone know how to decrypt a file that was encrypted by Gingerbread's new security feature?? I performed a factory reset this morning after I was experiencing the dreaded battery drain last night. I have my work corporate e-mail account on my phone and since the Gingerbread update the administrator options required my memory card to be encrypted . Well, I just Googled how to perform a hard reset and did the manual factory data reset without getting the prompts about not being able to access encrypted files any longer once the reset is complete.
I now have about 100 camera pictures that were saved on my SD card that I can no longer view since the factory reset. I had some pics from several trips that I forgot to transfer to my computer. Is there anyway I can decrypt these files on my SD card now that I've done the reset. I don't mind going through a lot of hoops to do this or purchasing a program...I really need those pics!

One of the first thing I did when I got my Atrix was enable phone and storage encryption from the settings menu. I recently downloaded and installed Motorola Media Link and got it to work with my phone. When content comes from the phone to the computer, the name and file type are correct, but it doesn't open or play (if a pic or video).
If I navigate to My Computer and open the SD card directly, I can see all the files and copy them over (like pics and vids) but I cannot see the pictures and the videos do not work.
Is encryption causing the problem? Is there any way to utilize motorola software (like Media Link) if encryption is enabled?
If I can't use conventional methods to transfer data from my phone to my computer, are there other options?

Since the gingerbread update, if encryption is enabled, the highest video recording mode is 720x480.
Only if disable encryption is 1280x720 an option. 1280x720 worked fine with encrpytion under froyo - why did this change and how quickly can this serious bug be fixed?
This is a serious flaw that significantly disables advertised features that worked when I purchased the phone.

Corporate sync (encryption) disables 1080p video recording. ALL HD video. I started to setup my Zimbra activesync connection using the Moto Corporate Sync and get an informational message. The choice is OK only, and the only way to get 1080p video recording is to Factory Reset.

According to this Motorola FAQ about their Android encryption, "When SD card encryption is enabled, all new files added to the removable memory will be encrypted. Files stored on the card will not be readable via another phone or card reader connected to PC. User can transfer files from encrypted SD card to PC using embedded Phone Portal application." So what happens if a user encrypts their data and their phone dies? They will not have the opportunity to transfer it to a PC and the replacement phone will have a different ESN. Is their data recoverable via any other mechanism or is it lost forever?

Do you think if I do a factory reset BEFORE installing the latest update that may help 'clear' out the few 'bugs'? ie, cannot even get the indoor calibration anywhere near close to what it should be also, I think mine has an issue with the screen timeout function and a few other things.

I was wondering (since I have a few things on my MA that are not working correctly)...Do you think if I do a factory reset BEFORE installing the latest update that may help 'clear' out the few 'bugs'? ie..cannot even get the indoor calibration anywhere near close to what it should be...also, I think mine has an issue with the screen timeout function..and a few other things..Now, if i DO a reset before installing...After the reset, when I connect my MA to my computer, will it prompt me to go to the most current update or not?For the last update, I just connected and everything was fine.....I'm not that great with computers and I would NOT want to turn this into a Customer Service issue -- if you know what I mean...

I googled and learned how to work with adb & fastboot on my Mac. So I rooted the phone and installed Cyanogenmod 12. The phone is operational again.A tremendous noob here. And most likely a certifiable *****, but my mom hasn't had me tested yet.Never rooted a phone in my life or even accessed a recovery console before. Was playing with options to encrypt my Stock M7 with Lollipop (carrier OTA version), fully aware of the risk of a factory reset should it fail. Was okay with it. Except the factory reset doesn't work. So I'm no longer okay with it, as the phone is bricked.Boots into recovery console that reports error in mounting /data:
E:missing bitmap oem_unlock_bg (Code -1)
E:missing bitmap oem_unlock_bg_yes (Code -1)
E:missing bitmap oem_unlock_bg_no (Code -1)
E:missing bitmap icon_ruu (Code -1)
Backup necessary files in data partition
E:failed to mount /data (Invalid argument).. try emmc mount
Formatting /cache...
Data wipe failed.
Running data wipe manually from the menu (option "wipe data/factory reset") seems to be successful:
-- Wiping data...
Backup necessary files in data partition
E:failed to mount /data (Invalid argument).. try emmc mount
Formatting /cache...
Data wipe complete.
Wiping cache partition manually (option "wipe cache partition") is also successful:
-- Wiping cache...
Formatting /cache...
Cache wipe complete.
The bootloader menus offer no clues as to how to proceed, I can initiate factory reset from there, but it results at the same boot procedure as outlined above.

I have enabled the encryption feature on my phone's internal storage, and it seems to work well. However, it is working too well for me. I can't seem to access any of my data from my PC via USB. It all looks fine from the phone itself but I can't figure out how to pull the data in unencrypted form from the phone over to the PC.

I just updated my D2G to 2.2.3 and I'm loving it so far, but get the following error when I try to test ActiveSync on Exchange 2010 at my work after agreeing to enable device encryption:"There is not enough memory to encrypt device data. Please remove old or unused application data to free up some memory and try again"When I go to Settings > Applications > Storage Use, I have 5.8GB free in my internal storage and 2.5GB free on my SD card. Is there a way around this error on the phone or is this a setting on the MS Exchange server? The encryption feature is specifically what I'm trying to test since I work at a health care company which requires data encryption for all mobile devices that access the network.

As I was texting, a message popped up stating that my phone storage was full. I stopped and checked the storage and memory space to see that they were perfectly fine. I went back to send another text and the message popped up again, the message didn't send and when I tried to access my texting again, it force closed until I rebooted the phone. I am using the stock messaging app, but a different home launcher. I have not previously had problems with this in the past using this same launcher, and only had 38 conversations going (all with only a few texts in each). Does any have any idea as to the reason for this and how I could solve this issue?

Installed MotoSpeak to get the full benefit from the Roadster device. Immediately upon installation received a low storage message even thougth I had 29.97 MB available on my Droid 1. I have run with no problems at this memory amount before. But more importantly, I am unable to receive any text messages. Text messages are "rejected due to full message memory'. I do not have any text messages on my phone. Have deleted all of them before installing MotoSpeak.
This appears to be a problem with MotoSpeak and not my Moto Droid 1. Has anyone been able to get MotoSpeak to work successfully with their phones?

I have very few apps downloaded to my phone, but I am continually running into problems concerning a lack of available space. When I look at the amount of space each application is taking up, none of the apps is using more than about 7 MB except for email, which is using a whopping 191 MB. I only have 11 emails in my inbox.

I had the number changed on my phone. Everyting worked until then. I can connect in all modes except for USB Mass Storage. I have updated my drivers, enabled USB debugging, etc. It works on another Windows 7 computer, but not on my main laptop. No matter what I do, it will not find the Mass Storage drivers. Everything else works great. I have to run in Mass Storage mode to get to some files for a work app.

I dont get when we're told about an upgrade, that you find it acceptable to TAKE AWAY features? i have been choosing Android over Apple for years for things such as USB Mass Storage mode. I know people who plug their phones in USB to their car CD Players and use it as if it were a flash drive. Now those users who may just have purchased a new phone are now screwed. You add features for upgrades not remove them. I am shocked and truthfully appualed to see where this new type of developer planning can lead to. Next were going to get pushed onto the cloud. If I'm going to remain an Android enthusiast and recommend Android to others you will not take away the things that brought me to Android! I could seriously put my Env touch before ever getting the FIRST OG Droid in Mass Storage Mode. This is not being posted to ruffle the feathers of users on this forum. This is intended as a wake up call to the developers to realize it was us phone enthusiasts that started this smart phone revolution anyways. We ousted Blackberry when they started acting like a bunch of tools. Don't do the same.

I just got my Bionic Friday night. There's supposed to be 16gb internal memory and 16gb on the sd card.Settings>Storage lists 3.47gb app space available and 8.00gb total space for internal storage. Is this correct? Are the other 4 - 4.5 gb reserved for OS etc and just not shown in storage settings.Just want to make sure there's not a defect on the phone.Settings list sd card space as 14.9gb ( I know format data uses some space). The 'Android System Info' app shows only 4gb max internal with 3.5gb free.Seems like it's only displaying the app storage space. And it only shows 8gb for the sd card.Does this app not work on the Bionic?

I recently bought a 32 gig class 10 micro SDHD card for my Bionic. I removed the 16 gig, copied the contents to my PC then copied them all to the 32 gig. When I go to Settings>Storage it shows that I have 30 gig, but I have moved some apps to it without issue and then I got an "insufficient space" message. I tried running a rescan SD app, rebooting phone, etc, but it still only allows me to put 16 gig on my 32 gig card.

this summer, I've broken the LCD SCREEN on my phone, MOTOROLA RAZR XT910 . There is a lot, like A LOT of informations and files that I need, I've alrady tried to connect via the HDMI CABLE, but nothing. It's connected to the computer and I can't access the files, because it says to "insert a disk into the driver". Is there any program on the NET so I can get my files back and put them on my computer?

In my quest to transfer my apps from internal phone storage to my SD CCard I discovered that Motorola refers to (or is it Android) to your SD card as 'media storage'. In an attempt to use the 'Manage Apps' feature and selecting 'Media area' I see apps with check marks and those without. I thought that the ones with checkmarks are those already on the SD Card and those without are those that are not on the SD Card, but might be able to be put on the SD Card. (Another user via another question I put out there indicated that the check marks indicate whether or not an app can be stored to the SD Card . . . is that true?). At any rate I am getting the following message when I select an app and select the 'move to media storage' button.
Failure to move application. There is not enough storage left. Here is the particulars of my current state of storage -
Application Storage - 1.04 GB
Internal Storage-
Total Space: 4.36 GB
Available Space: 4.88 GB
SD Card -
Total Space: 29.71 GB
Available Space: 28.79 GB
*So I have plenty of SD Card space, why am I getting this error? Is the one user correct that just because I see an app in the media area tab, that doesn't mean that it can be transfered? Also, when I select an app and the button to move it to the media area is selectable (not greyed out) . . . shouldn't it be selectable without getting the failure I keep getting? Obvoiusly I have PLENTY of SD Card space, so there is something I obviously do not understand.
