Lumia 1020 :: Enabling Double Tap To Wake Will Drain Battery Faster
Oct 4, 2013
I've seen many people claim that enabling 'double tap to wake' will drain your battery faster. On the settings page where you enable this setting, Nokia even says "this reduces battery life". I tried to measure it myself. After doing a number of normal discharge cycles with the feature enabled, I did one with it disabled. I didn't change any other settings. I used the phone normally in both runs - very similar usage.
I found that disabling this setting produced no significant change in battery life. In both runs that I compared, my battery level was at about 20% after about 3 days. See the attached graphs for my results. The first graph is with the setting on. After just a little under 3 days it was very close to 20%. The second graph is with the setting off. After exactly 3 days it was a little above 20%. These results are not exactly the same but I don't think they're significantly different. Not as different as I was expecting.
I have been experiencing some pretty bad battery life with my 1020. It was getting to the point that with moderate use it was in battery saver mode within 8 hours. I shut off many background tasks, turned off 2 of my 4 email addresses and did some testing. In standby mode the phone dropped from 69% to 55% in about a half hour after a restart. Exasperated I turned off Double Tap to Wake after noticing the 'drains battery' warning. I then charged the phone and went to sleep. Today, with similar usage as normal (about an hour of streaming music, 2 push email accounts, web browsing, texting, etc.) I made it 8 hours and only dropped 39%.
At time i have to double tap 4-5 times before my Lumia 1020 reacts and wakes up. And it can be really slow. My previous Lumia 820 had no issues with this what so ever, it work up instantly and i never had to do multiple double taps.
It's actually completely useless like this (since it ain't double tap but sometimes tap'extravaganza).
I am running Lumia Black build 3051.40000.1345.10285
Ever since the Lumia Black update, I have noticed significant amount of battery drain while not doing anything. This morning I woke up after 8 hours of sleep and removed my 1020 from charging plate, the phone was warm. That means it was charging the whole 8 hours.
I removed the phone and restarted it, turned off glance screen (location off) and did not use it until 3PM (3 hours after being removed from charging plate) and the battery gauge is already below 50%.
Experiencing battery drain with the 1020? I downloaded a battery app and with light phone use it is telling me that my phone is discharging at 10% an hour! Is this normal for the 1020?
I just wanted to know, whats your battery drain on your lumia 1020 over night? My scenario is to charge it to 100% in the evening and then let it there without using ist for ~9-10hrs until the next day. Certainly with wifi/Bluetooth/mobile data off, glance off and all apps closed.
My iphone 4S drain the battery too fast.Bought the 23 dicember 2011, it has just 4 months of use and the battery should be gone? I think there is a great software problem.and Apple had to fix it definitevily. A product like this, with this price MUST CAN BE USED AT LEAST 2 DAYS IN ALL HIS FUNCTION!This is a device thinked to be connected everywhere at everytime, but the hardware seems not to follow this intent. I used the phone for calling, sms, web, mail and music, NO GAMESail has no push notification.Yesterday I've disabled all notification and some other things to see if the battery could be better, tried to not recover the old back-up
Upgraded to iOS 5.1 a couple weeks ago and since then battery drain has been horendous. Have problems on my iPad 1, have problems on my iPhone 4S, but iPhone 4 seems not to be affected as badly. I have disabled options and disabled apps (though they should be paused and not draining the battery) to no avail. Disappointed and think I'll go back to my iPhone 4.
I went to my local at&t store over the weekend to check out the 950 and noticed it wouldn't wake with a double tap, I couldn't find it in the settings so I just figured the setting was buried somewhere but it was verified by 950 users on they're forum that its not in the new OS..
I've done some google searches and really haven't found a definitive answer on this. I've been getting more excited about jumping onto the 4G bandwagon in early 2012. But I'm "HEARING" that LTE introduces a significanly fastert battery Drain. I currently have a DROID X and am able to get though mots of a day w/o having to recharge - minimal Phone use (maybe 4 calls a day), mostly web browsing, social networks, messaging, etc.
I was running GB on my phone since I purchased. Battery life was fine. Used upto a complete day with normal usage and heavy usage lead me to end up around 12 - 15 hours. It is normal. After few day of usage (About 2 weeks) I found battery starts to drain faster. Ok then I gave a factory reset. Oh amazing, I got the battery life back same as when I purchased,After a month I recieved update of ICS. Wow it was fantastic. It gave me the creeps. My normal usage went a day + . after a week I feld the same battery drain issue. What I could guess? guessed it might be a problem of installing more and more apps. Ok from this point onward, I was aware and wanted to check it out. Gave a factory reset again. fueled the battery to its maximum.
Installed any software the I must need. Oh I could not believe. see the screen shot how my normal usage was.. (1 day + 19 H) same devil has came back after a week.Battery started to drain fast. See the screenshot I got now. It shows 50% usage for last 6-7 hours. As to my calculation depends on best usage, it shoule be only 20 to 30 percentage. what's the hell is going on ??
I have a feeling after rooting the device, it gets battery drained from SSP wake lock. Device deepsleeps 50% and 50% awake because of that SSP wake lock.
There is no information about what and why. I disabled all motion features, deleted shealth. Turned off Location services.
The same happened to another S6 from a friend, and a S6 edge. All 3 devices have ssp wake lock problem.
Phone not waking up again after an overnight charge??, three times since I got the phone back in June, (but only once since the 8.1 update) the phone won't wake up after a charge and it takes holding the down volume and power button for about 10 seconds to get it to power up, but when it comes on it's reverted to the same date of May 23rd 2014....
Any time I wake up my phone it has a few second lag and has to resume on wake up. Same with switching apps it takes between 2-4 seconds to resume anything.
The double tap to open quit working it was working for me on my Nokia Lumia 1020 don't know if I turned it off some how can't seem to find it it the settings
When I playing game or using internet explorer, it feel hot , then I stop playing and stop using phone, standby mode, it continue feeling hot and reduce battery life.
I updated to WM10 10586.29 and now when my battery gets to 70% To 75% it will drain down do 2% in an hour. I have location, Hey Cortana and most background apps turned off and still get the drain. Also I just noticed while charging it takes forever, but when it get's to 40% it goes up to 100% in less than 10 min.
I really like the LGG4 double tap to wake feature but it doesn't seem to work with Nova Prime. Any 3rd party launchers that support double tap to wake? Maybe an app to add to Nova?
I received my phone back from repair today (lcd replace) and the double tap wake up is not working anymore. Yes, I have checked the settings, calibrated G-sensor, and did a factory reset as well. I've tried in multiple positions and it never wakes up. The weirdest thing is that double tap works when putting him to sleep on lock screen, but can't get it to wake up never.
I've found the double tap to wake up to be very sensitive when the phone is put in my pocket, the screen unlocks on its own and sometimes the flashlight gets toggled. I'm on the latest firmware. Are there others who face this issue as well?
Since yesterday (12/20/15) my 950 has been running very hot and the battery drain exceeds 25% per hour. It was fine after the .29 update a few days ago, this just stated happening. I've done all the normal things, turned off a number of background aps, location off, soft resets, no updates occurring that I can find, etc., phone is hot when not being used and very poor battery life.
As the title says. Went to bed with 75% battery last night. Woke up this morning to a completely dead phone. I had just closed out of all apps before going to bed.
This is unfortunately going to be the straw that broke the camel's back for me. I can't in my right mind pay $600 for a device that I have to keep plugged in all the time.
I want to get a discussion going to try to figure out what's causing the massive screen-off battery drain on the lumia 950 (AT&T). I don't believe I'm the only one experiencing this, but here's some background:
Phone has windows hello turned off, hey cortana on, glance screen set to turn off at 15 min. Quiet hours in effect 10pm-8am. Location, cell, wifi, bluetooth all on.
The results:
Charge to 100% and let sit overnight -- first night, around 7 hrs long, it drained to 87%.
Charge to 100% and let sit overnight -- second night, around 9 hours long, it drained to 67%.
Charge to 100% and let sit overnight -- third night, around 7 hours long, it drained to 90%.
My app background permissions have been tinkered with when i first got the phone so a few apps don't run in the background, and I deleted many of the bloat/AT&T apps that I don't use.
I got a new Lumia 900 recently and have noticed that the battery hardly lasts half a day.I have emails configured as push, whatsapp running and the weather flow app. I have turned off all other background tasks.1. Does the people hub sync in the background? The feeds update only when I open the app, so I am not sure.2. Does the me hub sync in the background?3. Will removing their tiles from the start screen, will they stop syncing? Or do I have to unlink my Facebook, twitter and linked accounts completely?4. If I turn in background tasks for a program like flickr/imdb, will they sync even if they dont have live tiles on the home screen? What do they sync? I have always seen them start from scratch when I open he apps.
