I've had the GM for a few days and I'm wondering how to upgrade to the public release of iOS4... iTunes says there's no updates available. I don't want to do anything unnecessary/anything to screw up my phone.

I'm planning to restore my iPhone while updating to iOS 4 since I've bee using the same old backup for 3 years or so now, installed a bunch of thing etc... so I want to start from scratch.
The only thing I don't want to lose are my SMS.I also don't want to jailbreak my iPhone.
What are the solution to backup only my SMS (so not regular iTunes backup) and then restore that only to my freshly installed iOS4?
My itunes has been backing up my phone for a good 12 hours now and its not even half way through. why is it taking so long to backup my phone?

I forget what happens when we update to new firmware on an existing phone: Does it delete the music/video content from the iPhone? Or is there a way to preserve this content when I load the new iOS4 later today on my 3GS? I know you can preserve photos, text message threads, apps, etc. My iPhone 3GS is backed up.
View 4 Replies View RelatedWhile some of this is probably because of it being new software and not every app has been updated for it, but certain apps have been crashing on launch, or with in moments of using it. And using some games have made the game it self very laggy, where as it was fine on 3.0 examples being sonic, and madden 2010. Many of the other tasks on the phone seem quite snappy though.I do have the GM version, but the build is apparently the same.

But even the same camera roll photos that show up in the Photo Library are overly compressed or blurry.The were fine before iOS4 and this is on my 3GS.

When I checked to see what they were I found that I had never loaded the original apps and that they were apps with either languages or support sites in what appeared to me to be Korean, Vietnamese, Pakistani and other non-English languages. Having checked for updates via the BB website, and been told none available, I'm wondering if the auto-check only works within a main version i.e. OS 5 or 6.I have an unbranded UK handset presently running v5.0.0.884 (platform 6.2.0.94). I assume there is no update within OS 5.However, what about OS 6? Can OS 6 be installed as an update? Depending on where I read I get the impression OS 6 is available for my handset, but then other sources seem to indicate not.If it's not available, fine. If it is, then I decide whether to do it or not.

However, when i try and open 'Office Suite' which was pre-installed on the phone it tells me there is an update availalbe and to continue i need to download this. When i select the 'update' button, the process begins but after a few seconds i get an error message saying 'installation failed'. I've had no problems opening any of the other pre-installed apps, and have downloaded some from Android Market with no problems.
