Mar 12, 2010Today my JB'd 3G on 3.1.2 went into a funky state and I attempted to reboot. Since then I've been stuck on the Apple logo at start up and nothing.
So, i put the phone in DFU mode and Itunes 9 is giving me the option to "Update & Restore", HOWEVER, I dont want to do this because I want to stay on 3.1.2 for obvious reasons. I also have been reading stuff about SHSH but I have no clue what this is so one can assume I never did anything prior regarding SHSH.
When itunes has the pop up on the screen saying "update and restore" can I hold "shift and click "update&restore" to choose a 312 ipsw, or is that option only available if restoring without being in DFU mode.

Mar 13, 2012So i updated my phone last night and it said that it needed to be resotred so I did, but just before it finished, it did not complete it and now will not restore at all. Keeps coming up with Error (1). I have followed the steps to what apple have given me by restarting my laptop, making sure I have the most recent iTunes and making sure all my software is upto date. and it all is, but I still cannot restore it.

May 9, 2012I've downloaded the latest update 5.1.1. The installation is successfull until my iPhone wants to restore.And then it asks me to connect to iTunes once again - can't do anything.. Restarting the iPhone doesn't work either!

Jul 2, 2010I have the 3Gs and jailbroke it the first day I got it. Just a few days ago my iphone locked up and I had to restore it. Since I was FORCED to update to the new OS 4, I can't JB it yet.
I was looking around the settings options and I noticed that it has th e "tethering" options on my phone just like when I had it JB. I did a search and I did not find anything about tethering on the new OS, just that it was promised by ATT a few months ago but they never did.So is there something special about m phone or do they normaly have this options available just you can't use it?

Mar 28, 2012I just updated my iphone and all my contacts have been erased. All recent calls and text messages are there. We have updated other iphones without losing the contacts. Is there any way I can get my contact information restored. We specified for the update to not sync contacts since I had no contacts in my itunes library. I had over 200 contacts on my iphone so i did not want to have to type them individually into my library.

Apr 28, 2012My I phone is literally dead. I tried upgarding the software yestreday, it refused saying there was an error, I was given an option to restore it, it has failed. Now there is no old software as well as the new software. Its showing a plug and an Itunes signal on top. Thats all that it has.

Jun 14, 2012Today I decided to update my non-jailbroken white iPhone 4S through the notification that had been outstanding in the 'Settings' app from iOS 5.1.0 to 5.1.1. After agreeing to the terms and conditions the phone rebooted and displayed the apple logo and a progress bar underneath. I left it as it was but when I came back after 10 minutes it displayed the 'Connect to Itunes' screen. I thought fair enough maybe the actual update has to occur through itunes so I did as it told me. Next thing I knew, my phone was in fact in Recovery mode and required a restore.
I was furious. This meant that all the data on my phone had to be removed and why? no idea. All because of a ridiculous update that had to be done eventually. Before I restored it I searched if any others had been through the same scenario and indeed it was a hot topic but the only appropriate solution was in fact to restore. The iCloud backup was also pointless because about 2 months ago my phone claimed my iCloud backup storage was full so I eventually deleted everything from it but it still showed that it was full so I ignored it thinking that I wouldn't restore the device anytime soon.
So here, now I'm asking for a way to reverse or retrieve all my data? I've still got my contacts, my apps are currently being synced, but all my messages, alarms, photos, music, etc are gone.

Dec 9, 2014My phone lately has been searching for service constantly, I would say that 80%of my day my phone is searching for service. There was a software update for I think 8.1.2, my phone didn't have enough storage, so I tried to do it through iTunes, when I did that, I got the connect to iTunes screen and couldn't get past it. So now I have put my phone into recovery mode and have run into nothing but issues. One iTunes will not let me update the software, secondly I can't restore it, I get a pop up saying something that my device isn't recognized.

Dec 6, 2014The problem started when i had too little space on my phone (ios 7.1.1) to update to 8.1 so it asked me to make space for the software. I deleted enough off of my phone and started to download it over wifi. The ios update would crash halfway and say there was some kind of error and every time i tried updating it after that it would never update. Another problem is the fact that i have no sim card in the phone and it says "Searching..." and even when i do have a working sim card in the phone it still says "Searching..." So now i updated my iTunes on my desktop and am currently trying to update and restore my iphone. i first tried updating it without restoring it through itunes and itd stop at around 60 remaining minutes and ask me all over again if i was to Download ios 8.1 or Download and Update to ios 8.1 and this has been happening for 2 hours. Then i would try restoring it and it would do the same thing.

Mar 24, 2012When I updated my phone to iOS 5, I received a message saying my phone couldn't be restored because the backup was encrypted--I had neither requested nor set a password for this encryption. The phone now had none of my information on it, notes, texts, voicemail. I panicked, called Apple, and they helped me find a way to restore the notes from files in iTunes, which is a relief because I'm a writer and had a lot of work in there. However, the phone started asking me for a voicemail password that to my knowledge, I had never set. I tried a few passwords and attempted a few other methods of recovery, all to no avail. So I reset my voicemail password, as all the online literature I could find suggested. However, the "password is incorrect, please enter your password" prompt then no longer showed up. After long deliberation I set up visual voicemail over again, but to my dismay I no longer have any saved messages. At this point I have lost over a year's worth of text messages and voicemails. Some of these were incredibly important to me. I would love to recover all of it if possible, but I particularly care about the saved voicemails. Some of these were from my girlfriend during a difficult time in our lives and I really need them back. I also lost important texts from my girlfriend, best friend, and siblings, but the most important thing is the voicemails. Nothing I'm concerned about is more than a year old, but there are around five or six voicemails I need. No, there is no deleted folder from which I can undelete messages, I know how to do that. My phone is not yet jailbroken but I'm not against doing it if it will allow other methods of restoration to be attempted. I do some coding myself and I'm not daunted by the prospect of sifting around in my computer's files and command line, by the way. I still have all the itunes backups, although half of them are still encrypted with an unknown password.
