My I phone is literally dead. I tried upgarding the software yestreday, it refused saying there was an error, I was given an option to restore it, it has failed. Now there is no old software as well as the new software. Its showing a plug and an Itunes signal on top. Thats all that it has.

Ive tried to follow your instructions on how to get it back (ive downloaded OI file manager) but after that im lost!!! I wouldnt know where to start on trying to find the back up and restore as theres so many files on there? Also, one of my apps in particular hasnt appeared on my phone (maybe because it was a free one)? and i desp need it back as i stored all my passwords, log ins and pins on there and im totally lost without it....is there anyway i can retrieve all the info that was on it? I backed up my contacts, messages, call logs everything.When the phone was updated and I restored everything contacts are missing all the rest are there.A little background to know. For some reason Xperia X10 cannot read my SIM contacts from the day I bought it when we were on 1.6 so I decided to create an CSV file to add them to the mobile memory not to the SIM.So now what? The restore is sending the contacts again to SIM that's why I cannot see them?

View 3 Replies View RelatedToday my JB'd 3G on 3.1.2 went into a funky state and I attempted to reboot. Since then I've been stuck on the Apple logo at start up and nothing.
So, i put the phone in DFU mode and Itunes 9 is giving me the option to "Update & Restore", HOWEVER, I dont want to do this because I want to stay on 3.1.2 for obvious reasons. I also have been reading stuff about SHSH but I have no clue what this is so one can assume I never did anything prior regarding SHSH.
When itunes has the pop up on the screen saying "update and restore" can I hold "shift and click "update&restore" to choose a 312 ipsw, or is that option only available if restoring without being in DFU mode.

I have a an iPhone 4s 5.1. I have just recently updated from iOS 5.01. I kept getting messages saying that i had purchased songs that hadnt transfered and asking if i wanted to transfer them to itunes. i said yes and it immediately said it detected a device but it couldnt read it properly. so i attempted to restore it to factory settings. (after switching out USB cables and uninstalling/reinstalling itunes) i hit restore and it asked if i wanted to restore and i hit yes only to have a pop-up detailing all the new features on the 5.1 update. i cannot get past this point.

Recently, I upgraded my iphone 4 software into 5.1.1, I believe at some point I got an error about "not being able to contact the software server" but I deemed it unimportant since the upgrade followed successfully, except afterwards, I only was able to sync via wi-fi, since when my iphone was connected, I got NO options except "Eject" ( the name of the iphone is apparent, but when i click on the devide, the big screen where there should be options such as "restore" and "search for update" only has the writing "Iphone" on a gray background) I thought it was something about the wi-fi sync I hadn't used before, googled for others that have the same problem, only found one outdated post where the person said they solved the problem on the phone with an apple representitive and after a "recovery" and restore, the phone was fine.
So I have put my phone in recovery mode, plugged it into Itunes, where it cannot "contact the software server". Is there any way I can restore my phone without using Itunes? Because apparently that wont work... (Oh, I tried a million solutions for contacting the software server error too, my "hosts" file is clean, I added and later on removed a dns of apple, I started using the dns 8.8.8.8 for my connection, etc. and nothing worked)
Also, "calling" anywhere is kinda the last resort because I am not from the United States so it would be skype all the way.

I had an IPhone 3gs earlier so I synced and backed-up the phone and then attempted to restore the phone to see if I could eliminate the problem. After the restore and software update, it brought me to the "Set up your IPhone" page and I selected "restore from the last backup on my iphone" then clicked "continue." It started to restore from backup and everything appeared to be running like normal, but when it was finished and my phone restarted, my apps and songs were deleted but my pictures/wallpapers/contacts were still on the phone. In addition, instead of my itunes returning to my Iphone's library, it returned to the "Set up your IPhone" page like the restore never happened. I have tried to restore from backup multiples times after that but I end up with the same result so I cannot access my iphone's library on my itunes to add any of my songs back since the restore didn't bring any of it back. Does any know how to fix it?
