View 1 Replies View RelatedWhile we were on vacation my brother in law upgraded to an iPhone 4 and I bought his old 3G and jailbroke it using Spirit. I also unlocked it to use on TMobile. Now that I'm home, I wanted to sync it or back it up so that I wouldn't lose apps and such. I don't have any music or videos on it but would like to do that eventually also.
1. I tried to sync some TV shows and it said that this iPhone was associated with another iTunes library so the sync would erase what was on the phone and replace it with what's on my Mac. My question here is, does it just erase things like videos and music, or will it also torch my apps and erase the jailbreak?
2. I notice when you right click the iPhone icon in the left side pane in iTunes there's a "Back up" option. Does that backup all of my apps to iTunes without erasing data on the phone or messing up the jailbreak?

so i lost my 32GB 4gs, got a 8GB 4gs and went to restore it from an older back up of the 32GB. obviously i can't restore all the music etc, the ONLY thing i actually tried to sync to the new phone was contacts, but somehow i have a phone filled to the max with "other" ? can't figure out exactly what it is. it's weird cuz it says it's 1MB short of making the full sync.

My phone was slowing down, so i restored it and chose the wrong backup (i did not see the backup that was made today). I option+clicked the restore button to point it to the backup that was made today, but when i go to the "/Users/username/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/backup" folder there are no clickable files to select. Am I looking in the right place? How do I restore from that most recent backup? I would like to do it without having to completely restore my phone again.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI had a text conversation, took a number of pictures and videos, etc. Then I come home, sync it with iTunes and with my backup, and all of that stuff vanishes. How can they give you an activated, functioning phone before you walk out of the store, but not tell you that you have No way of saving anything you do on it pre-iTunes sync?
View 5 Replies View Related1) Can I backup and sync normally in itunes now without hurting anything? What If I have jailbroken apps in folders with normal apps from apple. Just want to make sure I can sync and backup without hurting anything.
2) If I ever want to update to a newer apple firmware down the road, I can't believe you have to restore the whole phone to do this! Then you lose all your jailbroken content! Isn't there a way to back up the jailbroken stuff? Its super easy to jailbreak it, you would think you could uninstall the jailbreak just as quick, but I guess that isn't the case.

I bought an iPhone during my last vacation and took 400 pictures before syncing, straight out of the box. When I got home and plugged it in my laptop, it synced with my old iphone, erasing all pictures. How can I get them back? There's no backup, since the iphone was brand new to my macbook.

I have been having this issue ever since I have gotten the iPhone 4. Its really irittating because my 4 is only 8GBs. Every time I connect my 4 to my computer, iTunes pops up and it syncs it and go through the steps of sync and backing up. But when it does this, my other memory space goes up. Every time I use my iPhone 4 then need to put more music or something it goes through that synchronization process and back up, which then makes my other space go up more. Now I only have 1.1GB of space left. I been having this problem and trying to figure out what is the problem. But when today I connect it I notice it goes up when backing up and all that. I have research a lot of people have the same issue but its because of something else, or because they "Jailbreak It" which mines is not. My iPhone 4 is on the latest ios5 which is 5.1.1.

I have the iphone4. My laptop crashed back in February, so that was the last time I backed up my phone and was synced to a computer. I have no way of accessing anything on this computer. It doesn't turn on or anything, it is basically just a shell now, so I can't release my iphone from it's authorization with that computer and itunes. I am trying to finally sync my phone to a different computer. I went to both Verizon and the Apple store and they told me to go under my itunes preferences and make sure that the iphone does not automatically sync to the computer, so I did that. I plugged my iphone in and thankfully it didn't sync... but then they told me to manually save all my information and apps and pictures and contacts and what not from my iphone to my computer so that I had it incase everything got lost. However, there is no way for me to do this!!! I transfered my itunes purchases so it saved most of my apps, but I have no way of saving my music and photos and contacts. I'm not sure if I am supposed to backup my iphone to this computer? Or will I lose everything? And I know if I sync that I will lose everything since there is nothing saved to this computer. If someone could please help me that would be great!!! I have gone to both Apple and Verizon and read around on the internet trying to figure this out, but no one is giving straight steps on how to do this. I don't know how to save my contacts and photos and everything manually to the computer like they told me in case the sync loses everything. And this has been 5 months like this trying to get help and figure this out, and I'm definitely fed up to say the least. I also haven't even been able to update to ios 5 yet so I don't have iCloud or any other way of backing up everything.

My 16GB 3GS is only about half full. Yet my phone has been connected here for 30+ minutes trying to sync and backup. I actually stopped the backup process with only about 10% on the progress bar after sitting there at 10% for at least 5+ minutes. Now it's continuing on with the sync process. You would think with USB 2.0 it would go faster than this. I also don't understand why it's having to update 157 songs in one of my playlists when those songs have not changed and were already on the phone.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an iPhone 3 and just got a hand-me-down 4 from my nephew. I've got my AT&T number/account transferred to the iPhone4, and am trying to move everything from the 3 to the 4, and am having a problem getting all the data, apps, etc. backed up to my Mac iTunes so that I can "restore" them to the 4. Some stuff backs up (contacts and text messages, in particular), but none of my purchased apps. I've tried the following steps: Deleted all previous backups and manually started a new backup. This only results in about a two-minute backup, and same result (no purchased apps)Created a new user account and tried a new backup in iTunes. Same result.Erased all settings and data in my new iPhone 4 and tried a "new iPhone" restore from the iPhone 3 backup. Same result. In this case and the other "restores," I'm also getting duplicate contact entries!
Additionally, I went to the AT&T store to try to get the iPhone 3 "unlocked" so that I can pass it down the food chain to a relative who wants to use it on another carier, and found that most folks in AT&T and Apple customer service have yet to "get the memo" on unlocking AT&T iPhones that apparently came out last Friday (4/13!), and can't figure out how to get me the Apple unlock code for the phone. They say, "We're working on it!"

I just updated my son's iphone through iTunes. In the process, I lost his Notes. Now I am unable to restore from the first Backup of the session.
Info:iPhone 4S, iOS 5.1
I had an IPhone 3gs earlier so I synced and backed-up the phone and then attempted to restore the phone to see if I could eliminate the problem. After the restore and software update, it brought me to the "Set up your IPhone" page and I selected "restore from the last backup on my iphone" then clicked "continue." It started to restore from backup and everything appeared to be running like normal, but when it was finished and my phone restarted, my apps and songs were deleted but my pictures/wallpapers/contacts were still on the phone. In addition, instead of my itunes returning to my Iphone's library, it returned to the "Set up your IPhone" page like the restore never happened. I have tried to restore from backup multiples times after that but I end up with the same result so I cannot access my iphone's library on my itunes to add any of my songs back since the restore didn't bring any of it back. Does any know how to fix it?
