My iPhone no longer recognizes when I plug in headphones or any other external audio device. A software upgrade fixed this problem once, but the problem has come back and upgrades won't fix it. No matter what I plug into the headphone jack, audio continues to play out of the phone speakers. I'm outside of my warranty and not near an Apple store.

I have beats solo HD headphones (about 3 years old) and have purchased sony Xperia z2 few months ago. Why does sony not recognize the headphones when I connect it? Is it problem with sony itself or the beats? I think it's generally android problem, since it does connect to samsung s4, but doesn't connect to relatively old htc phone and my Xperia.Â

I tried two different headphones, the ones that came with it and my own. I am sure that I plugged them in all the way. Is there a hardware problem, or am I doing something wrong? My volume doesn't work with or without headphones. When I try to turn up my volume the ringer shows but there isn't any white dots showing how high my volume is. When I watch a video, I can't slide my volume up because the bar isn't there. My volume will sometimes work and then stop in the middle of a song. also my phone will only ring sometimes when I receive a call. I can't listen to music with my headphones and I can't listen to music through my speakers. But when I use an iPod Dock through USB then my volume will work so I think phone jack is broken...

While apple.com recognizes the change (as does my iPhone 3, which I use as an iPod) my iPhone4 does not recognize the change, and still has my old e-mail address on it. When I connect my phone to my computer it makes a noise but doesn't show the iPhone under my computer it also doesn't charge the iPhone when it is connected to it except for a few seconds when I reboot my laptop.
