IPhone :: Updated To IOS 5.1.1 - Syncing Ringtones Will Remove All Existing Stuff

I just updated to iOS 5.1.1 on my iPhone 4. Tried to put in ringtones or "tones" as I guess its now listed, and was given the message: "Are you sure you want to sync tones? All existing songs, movies and TV shows on the iPhone "HP_Owner's iPhone" will be removed."
I couldn't see any other way to get ringtones, so I tried it anyway. The message wasn't lying. I immediately gained a lot of capacity back on the capacity bar from songs, etc. I somehow got out of it and the capacity returned. Do I need to go through it all again and figure out how to install an older iOS?
I updated my husband's iPhone 3GS to iOS 5.1 just now, and a huge chunk of his photos are missing. I believe the last time this phone was synced with any library, it was his library on his old computer. So, of our two computers, neither would have been a good choice for updating, since neither could be considered the original one it was synced with. My question is this: when iTunes updates software, it backs up and restores first, so why were all of his photos not backed up and restored during this process? He had about 500-600 photos and now he only has 241. Also his playlists are gone, music was gone, a bunch of stuff is now gone. I had to put some of it back manually. Needless to say I am in a bunch of trouble for this - I have been bugging him for months to update his phone so we could iMessage each other.
I installed the latest software update on my phone last night...only to discover that after I did I lost all my text messages from the past 3 months, along with all notes I had (which contained my mileage for work), and any pictures I have taken. I also lost all apps that I bought/downloaded in the last 3 months. I am now basically out money also for any apps that were purchased. How do I get all of that back? Last week I synchronized my Iphone with the itunes, and instead of downloading the photos to my computer it uploaded everything from the computer to the iphone. Now my iphone's sotrage is full and I dont know how to reverse this action.
I want to sell my iPhone 4 and need to do a factory restore to remove all my stuff. When I connect it to iTunes and click on the 'restore' button it insists on updating the software to 7.1.2 first, which the phone already has. At the end of the update I get a message saying that the update was unsuccessful as it was corrupted. But I don't need the software anyway!! Is there a way of by-passing this update so that I can just do the restore? I just want to clear off my stuff so that I can sell the phone.
I had Hi Jump game on my iPhone and the scores used to save in Game Center. Apple removed game from App Store and I have lost the game once I connected my iPhone to iTunes. Now I cannot remove Hi Jump from Game Center because I cannot install the game once again and uninstall it with removing all Game Center data. What should I do to remove Hi Jump from Game Center then?
I am so tired of Apple screwing up my iPhone either with iOS or iTunes updates. This time I updated iTunes to 10.6.1, synced my iPhone, then I got a call and I notice that the ringtone wasn't the one I had set up as the default. I started checking and all my ringtones and music playlists were gone.

I have been trying to sync a custom ringtone (m4r) on my Iphone4, but Itunes keeps telling me "My Iphone is synced with another Itunes Library." and that it will erase my iphone and the itunes library. My Iphone only has Apps on it. I already have the Apps automatically synced. I don't have Music or Videos on my Iphone4 since I have those synced automatically only to my Ipod. I have the Ringtone file already placed in my Itunes library under TONES. I tried dragging it into my Iphone4 Tones and it won't let me. If I try to check "Sync Tones" and apply, the message about erasing my Iphone comes up every time. I only use one computer & one itunes so I don't know why the message about my Itunes library pops up. My question is should I just sync the Tones even though it says it will erase? I mean what would the syncing erase when I only have apps on the Iphone?
Ive updated my iphone4 which seemed to take forever but as I've never done it before I have no time to compare. Now its completed I have had to sync my music back onto my phone but I cannot seem to retrieve my apps. From where I can retrieve my apps?
I'm syncing my iPhone to iTunes and I'm ending up having music on my phone that, according to iTunes isn't on my phone. Or do i just reset the phone to factory settings thereby deleting all music? And doing that, what's preventing me from having the same issue again?
just synced with laptop and to my horror now have every photo from laptop in albums on my phone which i cannot remove. Have gone back into sync mode and it wont let me access the albums on phone to delete. Such ridiculous situation not to be able to delete by choice on phone. Sync only repeats the process. Not a happy iphone user. remove the albums. Also what to do when syncing to avoid happening again. When syncing, I dont seem to be able to access my iphone or chose what sync processes i want as the sync only happens as one process including the photos. Is this a fault?
With an 8GB Memory card we can load thousands of sound clips and while scrolling to choose a new ringtone you have to scroll through all the clips to find the one you want.Is there a way to prevent these clips from appearing in this menu?
I have converted everything that needs to be converted, and the songs i have chose are in my "Ringtones" section on my iPhone, but when i sync the songs they still do not come up in my phone..? any ideas on what to do

I had a text conversation, took a number of pictures and videos, etc. Then I come home, sync it with iTunes and with my backup, and all of that stuff vanishes. How can they give you an activated, functioning phone before you walk out of the store, but not tell you that you have No way of saving anything you do on it pre-iTunes sync?
