I have had my iPhone unlocked by my carrier and now I need to do a Restore but I am offered the opportunity to restore from iCloud or from iTunes. Will it make any difference which one I choose?

I forgot my passcode and have tried to restore my phone using iTunes, when I click restore it then downloads ios 7.1.1 software update for my phone, but when downloading it keeps coming up with an error saying that the network timed out, error -3259. ive tried it on both my laptop and my friends laptop and they've both said the same thing even on different laptops and network connections, ive updated iTunes and it still wont work, is there any way to fix this or will I have to go to the apple store, and will they be able to restore it for me?

After both had happened I tried to follow Apple's support instructions, which told me to: backup the phone using iTunes; erase all content and settings; and restore from backup.
The restore fails subtly. It looks like the phone has unlocked -- with my new SIM it picks up the new carrier (T-Mobile UK). However, it seems to be stuck in a cycle that last about 7 seconds. The main slide-to-unlock screen appears, but is unresponsive. A few seconds later it flips to a black screen with the time-is-passing clock dial icon. This happens repeatedly. I'm using: iTunes 10.6.3.25 which has upgraded the iPhone to iOS 5.1.1
I can use iTunes to convert it to effectively a new phone that works fine, without any backed up content, using a factory restore.
- Is this a known problem with a known solution? I can't find anything matching the symptoms on the web.
- Is it worth booking in a visit to the Genius Bar?
Failing that, I have a backup with the content I want, I can open the files and see e.g. all the message history. Is there a reliable way of partially restoring the phone's content (say all contacts and message history) rather than a blunt iTunes restore-from-backup?

I'm planning to restore my iPhone while updating to iOS 4 since I've bee using the same old backup for 3 years or so now, installed a bunch of thing etc... so I want to start from scratch.
The only thing I don't want to lose are my SMS.I also don't want to jailbreak my iPhone.
What are the solution to backup only my SMS (so not regular iTunes backup) and then restore that only to my freshly installed iOS4?
I inadvertently backed up my iPod Touch 3G which ended up being a blessing because it actually died due to water damage. When I get my new iP4 I want to restore from that iPod Touch backup because it has many apps I use for studying including the settings which I definitely need. Is there a way to restore just the apps? How would/could I restore at least the one app with data that I really need?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI finally updated my iPhone to 5.1. I waited so long because of the fiasco updating my iPod Touch when 5.0 first came out. I thought it worked, I was pleased Apple worked out the bugs. Lo and behold, all of my apps and folders disappeared before my eyes. No problem I thought, I did a back up. Restore from back up. Fifteen minutes later, it looks exactly the same. Isn't a backup supposed to be of everything on the system so that if something goes wrong, you just revert back to the back up and either try again or wait for the process to be fixed? Seriously, get your stuff together.

I have been using my iPhone 4 as an iPod for a while because I'm waiting for AT&T to unlock it. stats: jailbroken iphone 3G at 3.1.2 or 3.1.3 (cant remember).my iBroken went into a vicious reboot cycle recently, constantly showing the white apple logo, until the battery was drained completely. The process froze somewhere 3/4 to finish.Then ya know I googled around, downloaded pwnage tool, created a custom ipsw out of the iphone 3.0 ios 4 ipsw, selected it in itunes and tried to restore with that. When ever I try to unlock (dragging lock button from left to right) , I am unable to unlock in one go. It is taking multiple attemts to unlock my phone.I also observed that when I get to call, to cancel dragging the icon from right to left this is required multiple attempts.i.e many time dragging icon from right to left.
I don't know whether it is software problem or hardware. I have tried the repair operation also. my xperia neo is uptodate and running 2.3.4 os.I also tried to un install apps but I couldn't find any difference.Also once I unlock, those 5 screens, I can scroll inbetween and can touch home button. But when I long press on the screen to add widget/folder I am unable to do it as soon as I unlock phone. It is taking some time to respond.
As I purchased this phone in UK and using it in India, I am not sure how much service I can get in india from SE.I have bill for the mobile too.in other posts somebody told me to remove yahoo and i did the same but didn't find any difference.in short the touch scence is not responsive during unlock and for a while once get the home screen. I also installed andvance task killer app and killing apps frequently that also not making any help.
I set a screen lock code today and used it several time with no problems. Tonight the unlock screen shows 'Enter Password to Unlock' but when I enter the pin code, it will not unlock.

I remember my z2 was able to set the bluetooth unlock range between my phone and my smartband at android 4.4, but this function seen gone in android 5.1,i can unlock my phone in android 5.1 with any range just need the bluetooth connected.
