Huawei Nexus 6P :: Reflashing System Partition?
Jan 10, 2016
I'm trying to upgrade my SuperSu to the latest beta so I can install Viper4Android for Angler. However, the instructions for SuperSu Beta states "If you are coming from any SuperSU install in /system, you must re-flash the stock system (and vendor and oem, if present) partition contents prior to installing this."
I was wondering if I could get some Nexus 6P specific instructions for doing that without screwing everything up. I assume this doesn't wipe my user apps.

I am running a stock image on my N5 with root and need to add an apk into the system partition but the problem is that I have only 4mb left on there and the apk does not fit. Is it possible to resize the partitions and:
Still keep your data and/or Allow for OTA installations down the road?

I need to install an apk to /system/app but my system partition has no free space. Using "df" command in terminal emulator, it says 0.0K free in /system.
I have Android 6 DP3 and I've never pushed any file to /system before. Is there any way to extend system partition?

After rooting device (not my first time, but my first time with my nexus 6 which was a virgin) I tried installing a custom font. I downloaded it and tried installing "X" font and said my system storage was full. I tried clearing some stuff but failed. I thought it was an error so i downloaded a new app and failed too.
I verified if my phone was rooted and it is. Later I decided that I wasn't in need of a custom font so I left it at peace, but I remembered about Xposed framework and want it to install it just for the modules , but failed terribly after showing me a message that said "not enough storage space." Broke my heart. I unrooted and OEM locked my phone and re-rooted to no avail. Still the same ol' problem.
When in the root process, I remember while booting into custom recovery temporarily I saw this new message (I had never seen before) that said Something about the system partition to set it to read only for future OTA's processes and I left it untouched.
Also I checked on Titanium back up and other apps.
Cache: 256mb-------------- 13.4mb used, 242mb free---Good
System: 2GB ---------------------2GB used, about 300KB free---Bad
Data (userdata) 26.5Gb----2.5GB used, 24.1GB free---Good
Ram---- who cares. Its ok.
I want to have space to install Xposed, all these fonts and stuff. How can I free space or somehow to let my phone now there's more space or idk something.

Like the title says I can't write anything new into my rooted N5's system where it says system is out of space or something like that... I can copy files of KB sizes but not MBs... I have V4A libs and SuperSU in the system and now been trying to put in avast antitheft which is not working... This also happened when I tried to install xposed... BTW mine is stock lmy48i rooted with elemental x... Now I had to delete Google books just to install the antitheft!

I flashed Android 6.0 to my Nexus5 and rooted it with NRT. I can't copy a new hosts file to /system/etc because there is to less space. df shows in fact just 4k of free space.

Is there any way to increase the usable internal memory by reducing the size of the system partition (if you use a very lightweight ROM and GApps) and add it to the emulated storage?

Just got my Nexus 6P from Google UK to replace my HTC One M8 GPE (Been an amazing phone. made better by GPE)
Anyway, I've enabled developer options, but can't for the life of me get System UI tuner to work, the settings symbol just wont spin at all, tried holding it for 2-3 seconds, 5 seconds and 10 seconds.
Also tried this on my HTC One M8 GPE, Nexus 9 and wont work on them either?
Got developer enabled on them all.

Day one powering up the phone there was a system update that that never installed. Since then I have not received any OTA updates. I have had it since October 29th.
I am on Verizon and used my sim from another phone. Concerned that because the first update borked during set up that I am not going to receive OTAs. Seen other listing the same scenario. Factory reset and removing sim in order?

I just got notified that there is an update for January that is available to update.
I have followed the unlocking and rooting guide, and as such I'm worried that updating OTA will break my root.
How can I correctly update to the latest firmware without losing root?

I'm trying to delete the audio conf file in system/vendor/etc but it won't let me. I'm rooted and running Pure Nexus. Also when I go into the recovery and try to use the file manager it doesn't show me any files in that folder even though there are files in there. I just updated the Rom the other day.

I am currently running PureNexus and I do like it quite a bit. However, with Android Pay only working on systemless root (which is full of bugs) I am thinking about going back to stock.
My question is, can I install the stock rom, root, remove bloat system apps that I don't want, and unroot?
Any way for me to stay on PureNexus and keep Android Pay working that would be ideal as I am getting fantastic battery life. I am a light to moderate user and I usually have 50-60% battery left at the end of the day.

on my previous phone (Xperia Z2) I can plug in to my computer via USB and copy files to/from the internal storage or SD card. When I plug my Nexus 6P in to the computer the same way, I just get an empty folder. I can't see all the files on the internal Android file system. Is this normal?

I haven't been able to figure out for sure whether or not it's possible to modify lcd_density without touching build.prop. Past versions of Android allowed one to override build.prop settings using a local.prop file on the userdata partition, but I've been unable to get that working.
It looks like in the past you could put qemu.sf.lcd_density into /data/local.prop, but that's not working for me, nor is any permutation of that variable or location of local.prop that I've tried. Did Google disable local.prop or officially disallow overriding of read only settings?

Currently flashing back to stock with the steps given by Heisenberg's step by step guide, number 11, how to flash the factory image.
At the command fastboot flash system C:anglerimagessystem.img and it has sat here for over an hour and a half now with the output of writing 'system'. If I'm not mistaken, my phone is basically bricked at this point, as all I have written to the phone right now is recovery and bootloader really, and since I flashed the stock bootloader that means it is relocked.
Is there any way I can unlock it from here and then flash TWRP again, and then restore one of my backups of my 6P to at least get it working again?

I'm running a rooted 6P with TWRP and a custom kernel. Just got a notification for an OTA. Obviously, I can't run this update. How can I disable the update check? I have ROM Manager and know how to disable apps, but don't see any obvious update check system app.

I do what I normally do which is go into the system UI media folder and delete the camera click sound after rooting. However this time even with those files completely deleted the camera app still make the shutter sound. Is it like OEM camera apps now where the sound is built into the app and it's not using the folder sound anymore?

I now for the past hour am trying to wipe the partition cache but when I get to the last step where it shows the no command instead of it bringing me to the recovery menu it just reboots every time.
To wipe the cache partition, follow these steps:
Turn off the device.
Press and hold the Volume Up and the Volume Down and Power keys at the same time for about 10 seconds.
An image of an Android lying on its back will appear.
Press the Volume Down key twice until "Recovery mode" appears on the screen.
Press the Power key to restart in "Recovery mode."
An image of an Android with a red triangle will appear.
While holding down the Power key, tap the Volume Up key.
The Android System Recovery screen will appear. Release all keys. (But it does not appear it just reboots the device and brings me back to the lock screen every time)
Use the Volume keys to scroll to wipe data cache partition and press the Power key to select.
The phone will restart.

Just a question for everyone that occasionally wipes the cache partition from recovery like I do. I'm on my 2nd replacement and after I set it all up I wiped the cache partition but for some reason it takes longer than usual for the process to finish. Usually it would be like 2 seconds where now it takes around 35-40 seconds to complete. How long does it usually take you to clear your cache?

On my old HTC EVO phone, and on my Nexus 7 2012 WiFi 32GB, Clearing / Wiping the Cache Partition, is a good practice to keep the OS running smoothly.
On the N6, I haven't seen much discussion of it.
Would you do it as a regular maintenance step?
Would you do it before and/or after flashing or installing a new version of Android?

it takes about 5 - 10 minutes to perform a wipe from Recovery, where in Lollipop and before, it was a few seconds. A couple of websites have corroborated this.what's changed in 6.0 that a cache wipe takes so long? I'm on an unrooted N5 and performed a clean factory flash (and re-locked the bootloader).
Code:
mkfs -t ext4 /dev/[device]
to
Code:
rm -rf /cache/*
Or something, I mean, even formatting a heavily encrypted partition shouldn't take that long (especially one as small as /cache).

I am an embedded engineer so fairly ok with the tech. I have had my phone three days. It has lost the 32GB of memory and is relying upon a few MB to operate the OS but not enough for effective use.Following posts on the 'net and Maemo forums, I have attempted to reflash the the phone using both: RX-51_2009SE_3.2010.02-8.203.1_PR_COMBINED_203_ARM.bin followed by:RX-51_2009SE_1.2009.41-1.VANILLA_PR_EMMC_MR0_ARM.bin I can get the FIASCO to flash but not the EMMC; I am using flasher-3.5 on a vista PC.I get "error code 1" from the attempt to flash the EMMC.I am still not certain that the is not something electrically faulty here too.Is there some way of wiping the lot and starting again?
