I'm having major issues with WiFi after the kit Kat update. I've turned off WiFi optimization and my WiFi still automatically turns itself on even though I have WiFi off.

View 15 Replies View RelatedI am going on holiday next week and this will be the first time I'm taking the phone with me (except in Switzerland where it remained in flight mode throughout). I want to ensure I don't get hit with any charges on my return.
I will be using the WiFi functionality as the hotel is WiFi enabled and I will be receiving/sending texts and phone calls. However, I do not want, under any circumstances, my phone to connect to the internet using the network as the fees are astronomical. How can I ensure that the phone only ever connects via WiFi?
Is there a switch or something I need to do to have it connect to public wifi accounts? When we were in hotels with free wifi my phone wouldn't connect. It would find the wifi of the hotel to connect to, I would press connect, and then it would take me to a supposed webpage to "log in" for free but that webpage would NEVER load! And I would wait, and wait to no avail.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have this problem for some time now (at least since the marshmallow update). If I move my Nexus 5 to a different place, far from the current Wi-Fi AP, it does not connect to the nearest saved AP, it only does that if I wake up the screen.
The Wi-Fi works properly when the screen is off, I still get the notifications and all, I just have to stay connected to the same AP. I have tried everything to find what is the problem, but I can't find it.
I did a factory reset, it was working again, but when I did the first time Google account login, it started again, even on safe mode.
I thought I corrected it by doing another reset and not recovering my account , but when installing some apps it started again.
Every time I think I found the app that causes the problem and uninstall it, the Wi-Fi problem eventually returns
and I don't know what to do more.
What I have found out is that even uninstalling the app I think is the culprit, the Wi-Fi only works again properly if I reboot the phone, so maybe I have not found the app, and the Wi-Fi only works properly because I rebooted the phone?
The apps I have on my phone are the same I have in my Nexus 7 (2013), and with all those apps, the Wi-Fi works properly on the Nexus 7.
Is there anyway to know if is the phones fault, or some app (that makes the Wi-Fi not work properly on the Nexus 5,but not in the Nexus 7)?
it keeps on showing SOS even after coming out until I go and manually find and select the network which is already in preffered network list.Why does not it automatically connect to a network which is already in preffered network list when its available.

I get charged by the day so i want to prevent connection every time i open the maps.

From what I remember, it used to do that all by itself and connect with any other network that I've connected to in the past automatically. It no longer does that. If I move out of range of my network obviously the phone's WiFi connection drops.
When I return to within range of my home network my phone doesn't automatically reconnect to my home network. I have to press the power button on the phone to wake up the screen and within a couple of seconds the phone connects to my home network.
When I first got the phone I never had this issue. The phone would reconnect to my home network even though the screen hadn't been woken up.
When I got the phone it was on an older version of Android .. before Android version 5.
I have run the phone in Safe Mode and the automatic reconnect still doesn't occur.
So on Lollipop 5.1.1 should the reconnect to WiFi be automatic ?

My US-based 4S is with me in Stockholm, Sweden, and only connects to the Edge network and wifi, not 3G. My wife's Stockholm-based 4S connects to 3G.
I've done a hard reset, and have reset the Network settings, and the phone still doesn't connect to 3G.

My unit can connect to a working WiFi, but cant browse web or such apps i.e Android Market, FB, Navigation etc. I tried to change WEP and SECURITY on my ROUTER but to no avail.

Also, and I think this is tied into the WiFi issue, but my emails NEVER sync. The delay has been as bad as four hours.
My phone will no longer automatically connect to saved WiFi networks. It knows they're there, because if I go to Settings -> WiFi, it shows up in the list as a "saved" one. Tapping on it and selecting "connect" does nothing. I have to turn off the WiFi and turn it back on, and it will then automatically connect.
Additionally, WiFi will not stay off. If I'm some place I don't want it to connect to WiFi, I turn it off so that I don't get messages that networks are available (specifically when I'm driving, it's really annoying to deal with that over Waze).
I've got a Sprint GS5, running stock (not rooted), on 5.0. No updates available for the phone. It does this on every WiFi network I have saved (home, school, and school apartment, among others). I've also tried turning Smart Switch off and on, it makes no difference for either issue.

I have an unlocked phone, and it worked fine on the wifi with a foreign SIM card. I traveled abroad always with the mobile network off and just using the wifi and it worked perfectly. Only when came back to the U.S. and inserted my AT&T SIM card and registered the phone with them, the wifi did not work any more, even though it connects to all the available wifi networks.I have tried everything: re-registering the phone with the previous foreign SIM card; reset the phone to factory defaults; but it did not solve the problem.
