HTC One M7 :: Unable To Start Camera
Oct 10, 2014
I have been HTC user since M7. I bought the M8 two months ago and I had a weird problem. The camera worked fine till 3 days ago, but the day after I woke up it stopped working. I start the camera and I have black screen, the camera app crashes and I go back to home screen with unable to start the camera. I clean the caches, soft reset, hard reset, downloaded 3rd party software which did not work.

Currently, when I want to take a picture with my phone and I touch to open the camera app, the screen would turn black, with no image. The only thing that would show is the camera button and the option to go into the camera settings. There's not much within camera settings -- either switch the main or front camera and the photo capture mode (scene, night, HDR, etc.), restore to default, etc.
If I t back out of the camera app and go to the home screen and try to get back into the camera app, it would pause for a bit (about 5 seconds) before popping up the imageless (black) screen. Then, a message would pop up saying, "Sorry! Camera is not responding. Would you like to send an error report to HTC?" I would be given the option to "Don't send; Wait; Send Report". If I go back to the home screen a third time and then try to open the camera app again, it would say "unable to start camera".

Model info and OS version: Blackberry 9700 smartphone (3G,Wi-Fi) 6.0 Bundle 1965 v6.0.0.461,Platfrom 6.6.0.137)Apps: Only what comes as default as reset phoneFree space: Memory card = 1.7GB, Device memory = 27.2MBDid a battery pull fix your issue?: No I'm having a problem with my camera on my phone. The error message is 'Could not start the camera. Close other applications and try opening the camera again.'I've tried to do some research on this problem and all I've found relates to not having enough free space or the camera lense becoming loose. I've checked my free space and I think I have enough and I've tried pressing on my camera lense with no suceess. There are definitely no applications running. I've tried restoring my phone to old backups and then updating but still no luck.

I have the 8330 phone. For the last 3 days it's said "Could not start the camera. Close other applications and try opening the camera again." I've searched the error on main bb help screens. Even found where others had same issue here. OK so it was one person and he got response to remove the battery and reinstall. While I've done that no less the 6 times. Others had commented on persons post that it didn't work either.I don't have many apps on my phone. None I've downloaded in the past week.

So Verizon replaced my 3 week old 9650 because 9 out of 10 times that I went to launch the camera, the device would go into a soft reboot! Guess what - my 3-day old replacement 9650 is doing the same thing! And yes, I'm just using the new 2GB SD card that it came with.

When trying to select my camera, my phone comes up with a black screen then a warning message saying "Could not start the camera, Close all other applications and try opening the camera again". I have gone thru every thing on my phone to make sure there is nothing open or running and cannot find anything.
I have also taken the battery out and started the phone up again. This has happened in the past, it stayed like this for a couple of weeks then all of a sudden one day it just worked, not sure what happened or why, but it would be great to have a quick fix solution to this problem.

When ever I start my camera it locks on the first image when the camera app starts. So, moving around or adjusting to the exact picture you want is impossible, because the screen is frozen with that original image.
