HTC One M7 :: Phone Restore (built In One) From NOT Most Recent Backup
Mar 4, 2014
As you know, the HTC has a built in backup system that stores to dropbox.
Before an RMA I used this to backup my phone and files. When it returned I was about to hit restore, and accidentally hit the create a new backup button.
The problem I'm having now is that the software seems to remember the last backup, so I cannot access the one I need to restore.
I've tried deleting the newer backup on dropbox, but then the restore software simply says there is no backup to restore from.
I'm starting to think HTC may well have the worst software dev team in existence if this is an intentional 'feature' to prevent you using an older backup.
I just deleted an iMessage thread on accident. I went to plug my phone in to restore from a backup I did last night, but of course it automatically synced as soon as I plugged it in, and now it wants to restore from the backup it just made (in which the messages have already been deleted). Is there a way to select a backup point inm the past that is not the most recent one? I am not using iCloud (yet).
Need to restore my events in Week Cal from a backup. How do I find the dates of my recent backups? All my calendar events still appear on the hotmail frontpage. But I don´t know how to sync them back to my Week Cal.
i initiated and ios upgrade to 5.1.1 from my phone b/c it said it was already downloaded... after i kicked it off, it says i needed to connect to itunes.. however, it then said i was in restore mode.. after downloading the 800+gb download... it only gave me the option of restoring from an old restore... i thought since it said downloaded, the phone only need to update files and not the entire os. therefore i didnt perform a backup first.
When setting up my new iPhone 4s, should I restore from icloud or itunes backup? Or set up as a new iPhone? The phone number is staying the same from my iPhone 4.
Backed up old 8520 before it was returned to manufacturer due to speaker fault. I received a new 8520 but now can't restore the data to the new phone. The screen just appears to hang whilst fetching the backup file.
I have my Samsung Galaxy S6 but I'm very dissapointed to find out that the S6 is not supported at all by Kies 3. I had an S3 before, and I backed up all the data onto my PC with Kies 3, then factory reset the device and sent to a family member in another country who wanted it. You can imagine my frustration upon trying to restore that data to my S6 with Kies 3 only to find it telling me to use Smart Switch. However, Smart Switch only will allow you to restore backups from Apple, Nokia, or Blackberry devices. A Samsung rep has told me that there is no way to restore data backups on PC from a Samsung device to the Galaxy S6. This seems like a massive oversight to me, as Kies 3 was an amazing support program to me, and the only way to remedy my problem is to purchase an older Samsung device compatible with Kies 3, restore the data to that device, then Smart Switch from the older device to the S6.
I was using a Motorola Atrix phone for a few years running Android 2.3.6. On this phone I was playing The Tribez for many months. I have moved up to an HTC ONE. Love the phone and very happy that I moved to it. The last thing I need is to find a way to move my Tribez app with the game data to my new HTC ONE. I have not had any success looking in the Play Store for a backup and restore utility that work on both devices and also move the app data with the app.
How to get some pictures back. A long time ago my HTC One got smashed and I could not unlock the screen to get all the content off of it when I plugged into the computer. Well I moved and lost the phone, however, I still have the back up files in my dropbox. I used the HTC One Backup app to back it up and stored the backups in dropbox.
Those files are in there but it doesn't seem possible to restore them to my mac. I'm trying to avoid buying a used HTC One just to restore the backup and get the pictures.
Any way to restore that backup to a PC or Mac? Or any other way to get the pics out of those backup files?
When I want to backup my iphone to itunes using a PC it asks me if I want to set up as new phone or restore from the backup. I don't want to do either. How do I get around this? I used to be able to find the answer to this just googling the question but the answer no longer appears anywhere. I also can't find it on the apple site.
When you guys are getting your new iPhone 4s (mine is sitting in Memphis, TN and will be here tomorrow) are you "restoring from backup" to put everything you had on your old iPhone/3G/3GS onto your new iPhone 4? And if so are you running into any issues?
I'm trying to figure out if it would simply be better to activate my phone as new to avoid any headaches and worry about transferring everything later, but I can't seem to get some good information from those that have done either or. I'm afraid I might brick a new iPhone 4 if I try to restore it from an iPhone 3G 3.1.3 backup, or does it not work that way? I.e., will it just tranfer the files/music/pics/video/contacts/texts/apps/etc. to the iPhone 4 but not touch iOS4, or will it screw my new phone's OS up?
Also, I have been using an old Sony Vaio Windows XP laptop that was my primary iPhone 3G sync buddy, but will be switching computers next week when I receive a new i7 27" iMac. How do you move iTunes libraries to a new computer and re-associate your iPhone(s) with the new one?My iPhone 4 will be deactivating my old 3G and re-associating that account and phone number to the new phone. (rendering my 3G basically just a 16 GB iPod Touch) So what is the proper procedure when getting the new phone?
So I just been upgrading my Xperia Z2. The phone was on Android 4.4.2 when I used the Backup & Restore application to backup my System apps data, and some of my Downloaded apps with data. I had to upgrade to 4.4.4. I think it was a mistake that I didn't make a backup on 4.4.4 as well. Now I've upgraded to 5.0, and all of my apps & settings were kept, but I wanted to start clean, so I did a factory reset. Â Now when I'm trying to use the Backup & Restore app again to Restore the backup file I made on 4.4.2, a window pops up saying "Cannot restore, Selected backup records cannot be used due to incompatible software versions. Please select a more recent backup file."
I have recently had a replacement handset of a Xperia X10 which replaces my Vivaz. Before the handset was given back, I backed up my phone with all contact, calendar entries etc via the sony ericsson PC suite, now I want to restore this backup to the X10, the PC Suite doesn't recognise the phone. I have to now use the PC companion which doesn't help me much in restoring this backup.
I recently bought a factory-unlocked 32gb S6 (g920i) and spent the past few weeks setting up my applications, launcher, etc. For reasons that are not pertinent to my question, I've decided to return the S6 and replace it with a 32gb S6Edge (g925i).
Is there a way I can COMPLETELY clone all the apps, data, and settings between the two phones? I understand that the phones are close to identical but I suspect it is not safe to restore an S6 backup onto an S6Edge. Am I right about that? Assuming this is the case how can I preserve all my settings?
When I bought the S6 I migrated from a Moto X and it did a good job of installing my apps but none of the app-specific data or settings got transferred. Will SmartSwitch do this or do I need something like Helium?
After my wife dropped my iPhone in the Indian ocean, I am awaiting a new handset from my insurers. The only backup I have on iCloud is one backed up from my iPad. This has all my contacts, settings ect.I do not have any iTunes backups as I changed machines and did fresh installs. Now, can I use the iCloud IPAD backup to restore my new iPhone?Ie - will my new iPhone detect the iPad backup and restore from this.
My old Xperia TX is encrypted. So "Xperia Transfer Mobile" app and "PC Companion" are not working here.
Internal "Backup & restore" app exist on both phones - my new Z5 and TX and serves the same way - it can back up all text messages (and other data which I don't need to transfer) and it does work with encrypted phone! First it asks for password for decrypting and then works fine. I'm saving my backup to SD card. I'm inserting SD card to Z5 and trying to restore with same data but... BnR app can't see saved data on SD card!
I made some researches on content of backups and I see they using different formats for backups. Different files structure, different files contents and different metadata format.
I'm trying to restore a 1520 from a backup that was created on a 1020. It's not working and I can't explain why. When I restored a back up from a 920 to the 1020 it worked flawless. So here is more information ....
Lumia 920 with firmware Black and WP8.1 to Lumia 1020 with Black and WP8.1 works.
Lumia 1020 with Black and WP 8.1 UP 1 to Lumia 1520 with Cyan and WP8.1 does not work, backup doesn't show up, but the old backup from the 920 shows up.
I had assumed i would be able to save/backup/restore the most important info on my cell like my text messages, phone contacts and ALL my photos in my photostream thru iTunes and NOT have to shell out $3.99US + taxes to be able to do so! The App Store has only 1 free app (out of a whopping 5) which, of course, i cannot use on my 6.1.6 iOS..
How can i backup my messages and contacts? How do I add more options from where I backup email contacts etc etc OTHER than just Microsoft programs? i.e. From Chrome or FireFox.
How do I save and access ALL my 600 pics from my phone when only 56 are listed to be able to be saved on iTunes? Would I be completely delusional to hope there is an app or software that could do a cross-platform transfer of my stuff to an Android phone....??Â
So, I just bought a JB'en iphone 3g tonight.Went ahead and unlocked it using ultrasn0w.Connected it to my mac/itunes, and it asks "an iphone has been previously synced with this computer. setup as a new iphone -or- restore the backup of ***"So, since I had purchased apps using my *** phone (actually was an ipod touch that i got rid of), I'm thinking that I should restore the backup so that I can get my paid apps back for free.
Questions: -will restoring this backup to the new unlocked phone restore it to its original locked state (i.e. will i have to re-jailbreak/unlock)? or will it simply restore preferences, etc...? -otherwise, if i call this phone a new name, is there a way to transfer my purchased apps to the new phone's account?
iphone messed up so i backed it up at 1:46am so i could basically restore my phone as new. anyways, tried to restore from my backup at 1:46am and there's not an option to restore it from. it has one from 2am, so i clicked that and i lost everything. not really sure why. also went to itunes>preferences>devices and my backup from 1:46am is there but i'm not sure what i can do about it. viewed it in finder and dragged it to my desktop just incase i need to use it.
I recently restored my iPhone4 on my Mac computer and I'm absolutely freaking out because my iTunes will not locate the correct backup (even when I left click on the iPhone icon in iTunes tool bar and select "Restore from Backup"). However, I can locate the file on my computer from the Library/ApplicationSupport/MobileSync/Backup. I've tried dragging it a bunch of different places/renaming the file to get it to show up in iTunes but nothing's working I saw that before I completed the most recent backup, it said the date before that was around mid-Jan 2012. The only backup file my iTunes can find is from 2010! My phone is not jail broken but if that's what it would take to get all of my data back.... I'm basically deserate.
I have only changed over toBalckberry last year and unfortunately the default setting was for old messages to be deleted after 30 days.I do backup by BB desktop manager once a week so can restore old messages but can they be merged with more recent messages that have been received between backups?
I have updated my iPhone 4 to 5.1.1 and I can't restore my backup files because when I try to restore my backup iTunes shows that the backup is corrupted or not compatible with the iPhone
My 'backup and restore' app won't back up my text messages... it backs up the other things on the list for example the contacts, call logs, brower history etc. I would like to save the messages before I update my phone.Or unless there is another way of saving my messages, i.e. saving them onto a pc or something.I have a Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Mini Pro.
