HTC Desire HD :: Drops Reception And No Sim Error?
May 26, 2011
I have a desire hd which will tell me 10-15 times a day that I have no reception. To fix this I turn it onto airplane mode then back to normal. When I do this usually 10 out of the 15 times it tells me that I have no sim card installed and then I have to take out the sim and put it back in. This is a big drainer. It also switches itself off sometimes during phone calls or will drop reception in the middle of the call. I have been advised that I might need to reinstall the phone software and am wondering if anyone knows how I can go about doing this. The new update is not yet available for me and I can't use the phone the way that it is.

So at first I thought that the Razr had a weak WiFi reception. So I decided to install a WiFi access point in my office, basically on my desk. I connected the Razr to it but yet, it still occasionally shows a low signal or drops the connection completely then reconnects, works for a bit then drops it again. I'm at a point where I had to turn WiFi off on my phone because it was draining my battery so fast from flipping between the Cellular network and WiFi network way to often. I also have a Glaxy Tab 7.0 Plus connected to the same access point and it never drops a connection and it shows 100% strong on the signal.

Ive had my Desire HD for around 5 months now and from day 1 I've noticed that the wifi reception of the handset is terrible, I literally have to be within 5 metres of my router in order to get a signal, if I move to another room the signal drops to 1 bar pretty much straight away and then once I begin browsing drops completely and reverts to 3g. As I say this has been pretty much from day 1 and since then the handset has been treated with great care so are these phones that bad for signal?

Feeling can't get unlocked in a short time, so I return my Bell Galaxy S to future shop yesterday. Before return, of course, I reset it to factory setting. But after that, when I tried the GPS, it won't work well.If you do a Google search "galaxy s gps issue", you'll find quite a few complaining about the US version of galaxy s gps problem. But not sure our Bell version could have the same issue too? Here are my steps to reproduce the problem:
1) Do a factory reset.
2) manually delete some directories in the internal SD, since the factory reset didn't do it.
3) dial "*#*#1472365#*#*", it will take u to the GPS debug mode. Tap the "get position", it will try to connect gps and calculate the position. Before resetting, it was quite fast, in 5-10 seconds it will give you the position info. But after resetting, the position info never shown, though at the bottom those satellites info still shown (about 8 of them shown). But very strange, the position info not come out.
4) So I tried reset to factory setting again. then try step 3).Still the same result.
I was wondering if any dir/file was deleted by me in the internal SD which could be the cause of the gps issue? But it's not logical. First the the "factory resetting" is suppose to do everything it needs to set it to original state (I did two resetting). Second, I guess those system apps are installed in the internal flash memory, instead of internal SD.But as those satellites info still there, so I assume the hardware still working, while it could be something wrong with the testing software? And I didn't try other GPS apps, like map or navigon. I don't want to set everything up since I reset it for return.Though, I really like galaxy s, and thinking of get it again once 3rd part unlock is available. But this GPS issue really worries me.So folks, could you please try the same thing and test the GPS. If more people can reproduce it, then it will be real problem, though I hope mine is the special case?

I need help getting cell tower reception on my phone. Using China Unicom as Network Carrier. I am located in Guangzhou China (a major metropolis). The problem is not with the SIM Card itself because it has been tested and placed in other phones & it works well. Reception Bars fluctuate between 0-2 bars at most, both in and outdoors.Have noticed these problems since upgrading the phone to IOS 5.0 & now also on 5.1.1. No problem with Wi-Fi Networks. I have also tried Resetting the Network & taking out the SIM Card and putting it back in, but this has not helped.

I am getting an error message whenever I try to sync my Desire: "There is no email program associated to perform the requested action. Please install an email program or, if one is already installed, create an association in the Default Programs control panel." My phone was working fine with my old HP pc. win7 and office 2007. When I got my new Sony Vaio with win7 and office 2010. Is there anything I need to do on the office 2010 for it to Sync?

I have HTC Desire. I had some videos and pictures in my mobile. I never deleted them from my mobile, I just transferred them to my PC and with transfer they disappear. I can't see them in Gallery any more. Luckily due to the backup software Astro, i have got my Pictures back but I can't locate my videos anywhere. To remind you, I just transferred them, not deleted them from mobile.

The HTC desire and HT Sync work well with Contacts, Photos and Calendar. But with documents, the synchronisation appears to be from the PC to the Desire and not the other way round. Thus it appears to copy rather than synchronise.

On my PC and Galaxy Tab 10.1, when connected to my home router, I get about 1.5 mbps for my download speed. On the HTC I get less than 500 kbps. Anyone any ideas on how I can improve the download speed on the Desire, or is this the speed which it is supposed to operate at?

I just called a friend of mine that was planning on snagging an iPhone 4 within the next couple of weeks. He has a 3G and SWEARS BY using protective cases. He had multiple cases for his 3G. I asked him if he was going to get the new iPhone 4 anytime soon, and he replied "i'm going to wait until they get these reception issues fixed." I replied by saying, "well you use a case on your iPhone, so you shouldn't have any issues at all. In fact, I get BETTER signal strength with this iPhone." He went on to basically say that he was still going to wait until they fixed this "issue" with a software update. I don't understand why anyone that regularly uses a case on their iPhone, would be hesitant to buy the iPhone 4. A case shows the reception issue out the window. It's too bad all this bad publicity is making people think twice about buying this amazing phone. I know there are other issues besides the reception problem, but the reception issue is the most common. Everything else should be easily fixed by getting a replacement. I don't understand why there are still people complaining about sensor issues. Go get a replacement already.

I've had my bold for about a year now, and just today, the blackberry logo has been missing from where it shows how much reception you have, whether you've got 3G etc. According to my reception bar, I have full signal and 3G but am unable to send emails, bbms etc. I haven't moved in the past year, and have tried doing a battery-pull but to no avail.

Forgetting the issue where you purposely try to make it lose signal (really..who holds their phone like that?), have you guys seen an increase in signal compared to your 3gs? It seems like the external antenna would help. I was at Best Buy (all sold out btw) and a guy had one and I asked him to look at it. My 3gS had 2 bars 3g signal and his had 5 bars 3g signal so this was my only comparison. It seems the *3001#12345#* trick doesn't work on 4.0 anymore? Hows real world usage?

My new Iphone 4S has very poor reception. Updated software as per apple's support team suggestion, tried different SIM & service providers but signals are 50% compared to my Nokia / samsung handsets. Apple service centre & support team refuses repair/replacement in India since phone was bought from US. Really shocked by this since APPLE warranty should be worldwide & since it is a manufacturing problem in such a high end phone it should be replaced at the nearest service centre in India.

I bought a new n86 a few days ago but I found that the signal recertion is really very very low in some places compared to a nokia n70.At the time an n70 (or many other phones) has 7 bars , an n86 has NO bars (out of network coverage)That's a very frustrating problem, Can this problem be fixed? Is this a hardware or a software issue? Can the Nokia care find a solution to this problem?

I want you to try a couple of things based off what about to say. Today when I was around my house doing the normal everyday thing my phone at this time would have between 3-4 bars. As soon as I touched the left side slowly my phone dropped connection. (We all know this) Now the interesting part is today I was driving around and stoped by my local coffee shop. I looked at my phone and sure enough it was blue with full five bars. I tried every angle to touch the left side and guess what I could not get it to drop any bars. So I guess my point of this post is to see if people have tired this test in different spots just not around their office or home. I believe this issue is more widespread then customers are willing to admit or at least test.

So since I have been having the reception antenna issues I thought I would make an appointment and stop in to the Apple store today. I told the guy all my issues and he said we can either replace it or give you a bumper and see if it helps. I thought it would be a good idea if I started fresh with a new phone. He went in back and came out with a box that was NOT the nice small iPhone 4 retail box.
It was plastic looking like one of those small hardware screwdriver boxes with all the little bits. He opened the box and in it was an iPhone 4 surrounded in black foam and the phone was wrapped in a little bag. My first thought was this has to be a refurbished or one someone brought back that was having a different problem. He said "How could it be refurbished? The phone just came out." I didn't believe him cause he has a odd smirk on his face when he said it.....
