Today I noticed my iphone 4 stopped recieveng calls and texts (and outgoing). I updated my IOS but it did not fix the problem. When I tried removing the sim the phone did not recognise that I had taken it out. I still shown 2 bars on the reception WITH NO SIM!! What is going on? Has this ever happend before?
I recently moved to a basement apartment and have trouble with reception - too much concrete i guess. Anyone know a way of boosting reception on a Blackberry Bold to get better reception quality in such a situation?
I need help getting cell tower reception on my phone. Using China Unicom as Network Carrier. I am located in Guangzhou China (a major metropolis). The problem is not with the SIM Card itself because it has been tested and placed in other phones & it works well. Reception Bars fluctuate between 0-2 bars at most, both in and outdoors.Have noticed these problems since upgrading the phone to IOS 5.0 & now also on 5.1.1. No problem with Wi-Fi Networks. I have also tried Resetting the Network & taking out the SIM Card and putting it back in, but this has not helped.
Info: iPhone 3GS, iOS 5.1.1, Model MC637ZA Serial 83028W5VEDG
I just called a friend of mine that was planning on snagging an iPhone 4 within the next couple of weeks. He has a 3G and SWEARS BY using protective cases. He had multiple cases for his 3G. I asked him if he was going to get the new iPhone 4 anytime soon, and he replied "i'm going to wait until they get these reception issues fixed." I replied by saying, "well you use a case on your iPhone, so you shouldn't have any issues at all. In fact, I get BETTER signal strength with this iPhone." He went on to basically say that he was still going to wait until they fixed this "issue" with a software update. I don't understand why anyone that regularly uses a case on their iPhone, would be hesitant to buy the iPhone 4. A case shows the reception issue out the window. It's too bad all this bad publicity is making people think twice about buying this amazing phone. I know there are other issues besides the reception problem, but the reception issue is the most common. Everything else should be easily fixed by getting a replacement. I don't understand why there are still people complaining about sensor issues. Go get a replacement already.
After upgrading my 3GS to iOS4 the 3G reception is much worse. In many places where I always have had 3G reception I now have only Edge. I have a friend who has exactly the same problem.Anybody else experiencing this?
software glitch with ios 4.here it is being duplicated with a 3g.Internet- iphone reception issue on iphone 3g.mov here it is being duplicated on a 3gs.Internet- iphone 4 reception issue replicated on iphone 3gs running ios 4
Forgetting the issue where you purposely try to make it lose signal (really..who holds their phone like that?), have you guys seen an increase in signal compared to your 3gs? It seems like the external antenna would help. I was at Best Buy (all sold out btw) and a guy had one and I asked him to look at it. My 3gS had 2 bars 3g signal and his had 5 bars 3g signal so this was my only comparison. It seems the *3001#12345#* trick doesn't work on 4.0 anymore? Hows real world usage?
My new Iphone 4S has very poor reception. Updated software as per apple's support team suggestion, tried different SIM & service providers but signals are 50% compared to my Nokia / samsung handsets. Apple service centre & support team refuses repair/replacement in India since phone was bought from US. Really shocked by this since APPLE warranty should be worldwide & since it is a manufacturing problem in such a high end phone it should be replaced at the nearest service centre in India.
I live in a marginal reception area for o2 (who doesn't!). My iphone 3G was far better than my 3GS at receiving the weak signal. Can any iPhone 4 user confirm how reception performs compared to the 3GS.
I want you to try a couple of things based off what about to say. Today when I was around my house doing the normal everyday thing my phone at this time would have between 3-4 bars. As soon as I touched the left side slowly my phone dropped connection. (We all know this) Now the interesting part is today I was driving around and stoped by my local coffee shop. I looked at my phone and sure enough it was blue with full five bars. I tried every angle to touch the left side and guess what I could not get it to drop any bars. So I guess my point of this post is to see if people have tired this test in different spots just not around their office or home. I believe this issue is more widespread then customers are willing to admit or at least test.
So since I have been having the reception antenna issues I thought I would make an appointment and stop in to the Apple store today. I told the guy all my issues and he said we can either replace it or give you a bumper and see if it helps. I thought it would be a good idea if I started fresh with a new phone. He went in back and came out with a box that was NOT the nice small iPhone 4 retail box.
It was plastic looking like one of those small hardware screwdriver boxes with all the little bits. He opened the box and in it was an iPhone 4 surrounded in black foam and the phone was wrapped in a little bag. My first thought was this has to be a refurbished or one someone brought back that was having a different problem. He said "How could it be refurbished? The phone just came out." I didn't believe him cause he has a odd smirk on his face when he said it.....
I have had a griffin reveal case on since day one, so the death grip really has meant nothing to me. My findings so far is that it gets far worse reception and dropped calls than my 3GS. In fact, living in miami where ATT signal is strong, I never had any problems with dropped calls on my 3GS. I also have the proximity sensor issue and am wondering if I just received a bad phone.
I just got my unlocked iPhone 4. However, the reception is much worse compared to iPhone 3GS and 3G in the same place with same SIM-cards on two different carriers. iPhone 4 bars are always 3-5 smaller. Also, very often it is impossible to get service.I don't think this has anything to do with this widely known problem of touching iPhone since the problem is there even when I don't touch the iPhone. I have tried to restore the software and reset settings. Is there anything I could still try? Is it time to call Apple?
So I waited patiently in line for my iPhone 4 at my local AT&T store this morning. I paid and then left with my brand new phone. I decided to test out the RF of the phone by driving through weak areas. Places where my 3gs and Bold 9700 lost signal the 4 held on strong (calling and texting too). There were a few places where all phones were lost as far as getting a signal, but the iPhone 4 had usable coverage in places others didn't. Later in the afternoon I left on vacation (at the hotel now) and the iPhone 4 held on where the other phones always lost it (the gaps between two towers). My brother complained he didn't have any signal (LG AT&T phone) and I looked at my iPhone 4 and had 2 bars EDGE. Got to the hotel and only had 2 bars 3G with the iPhone 4. I put my brother's sim in my 3gS and that phone remained at 'No Service'. It won't magically create signal, but IMO the iPhone 4 does an amazing job of finding service and holding on in fringe areas. With all of the "reception" issues, I thought I'd just like to point out not all of us are having the same issues. *I've used BB 9700, 3GS, and v3xx all within the past 3 months or so.
My iPhone is constantly losing reception. It will go from 4 or 5 bars down to 1 or 2. If I click airplane mode and then unclick it this will solve it, but it's still a problem.Â
I tried a search on this but nothing specific to this topic jumped out.I've read/heard about alot of improvements.... and I haven't listened to the entire keynote presentation yet, but was just wondering if there's been any discussion of the new design of the 4 actually improving phone call reception?
I've never been happy with my inconsistent ability to make actual phone calls with my original iPhone or my 3G, but that's not stopping me from getting the 4... however I would be happily surprised if the phone reception, espeically in the low signal areas is improved. Unfortunately in my neighborhood I happen to be in a spot where phone reception is hit/miss and when a phone call can be made actually talking so that I can be heard or hear others is rare.We also have a neighborhood pool and I'd love to be able to surf the net more consistently there while the kids are playing.... again, with my current iphone the signal is so poor it rarely works.
Just wondering if there has been any comments by Apple regarding expected improved reception with the new design or if it is more for freeing up space and for improving rigidity? Also it seems with the pre-4 models people used to complain that the way your held your phone and the location of the attenna was part of the reason for poor(er) reception. I can't say I ever experienced that, but it will be impossible to hold the new iphone 4 without touching the attenna!
I started this thread to discuss phone reception, but another topic I haven't heard specifically discussed is whether to expect the new A4 processor to actually speed up webpage loading? I know its an improved processor and should help with running multiple apps simultaneously (over the 3G or 3GS), but has anyone quoted technical speed of actually running apps being faster? Like running safari, loading apps, etc... And if they don't increase the RAM from previous models I think that's just a foolish mistake! I used to run a JB'd phone because I loved Backgrounder but eventually let the JB go.... but when I did use it, it was quite obvious that RAM limitations really hurt multitasking! Why would Apple add native multitasking and not bump up the RAM???
I had no issues with my Iphone 3GS , but since i changed from O2 to talkmobile.I am experiencing a very bad reception and showing no services!Contacted talkMobile they blame on Apple?
Upgraded to 5.1 firmware recently on my iphone4 connected to three network. Had message regarding 'upgrade carrier setting'. Since then network reception very poor. 1 or 2 bars at most and other times 'no signal'. Interestingly wife's iPhone4 on same network but firmware 5.0.1 showing 4-5 bars when phones next to each other? firmware 5.1 issue. Anyone else have similar issues? Tried removing sim, reboot but still same problem. Not sure how to get new carrier settings. Reset network on iphone but no luck.
So i got my phone today from att and of course it has the issue ( not complaining ill deal haha cause its awesome) anyway called apple to see whats up and they told me there will be a update soon blah blah and until then i should put a piece of scotch tape over the antenna and they would fix it for now. Sure enough it did and it hasn't happened since. Just thought id pass this along for those who might wanna try it out.
Since apple is coming out in a few weeks with a fix for the reception issues. Does that mean a few more weeks until JB now? Do the devices have to wait until this firmware is released so they could JB? Would they release a JB knowing there is another update due in a few weeks?
I'm on Fido's network and have already my previous iPhone with Apple for the same issue. My phone just loses reception and goes in "searching" mode. Toggling "airplane" mode doesn't work either. Today I didn't have service for good two hours. Sometimes it would show I have reception but won't allow me to make a call or send text message. My current iPhone is just over a week old but the guy at the Apple store said its an issue with my carrier. I know thats not true since my wife has an iPhone as well and she never has this problem. I'm using the latest version software on my 3GS. Should I swap it again because this is becoming a headache now?
Anyone else having the same problem and if so then have you been able to resolve it?
Honestly, how bad is reception in Manhattan? Dropped calls all the time? Slow data and internet connection? Text messages coming through hours after they were sent? I always hear about these issues. How true are they?
Sorry to add to the reception frenzy but I have a rather specific question I could't find an answer to in the existing threads. Is anyone able to replicate the dropped bars phenomenon (with their hand) in normally solid five bar location?
I am on business away from home and my wife shipped me my iPhone. I'm in Waycross, GA. There is no 3G here but the Edge signal is solid. The thing is, I can see the cell tower from my window! I am absolutely, positively, unable to replicate the reported signal problem with my 4. I've tried all sorts of positions with my hand. Stays at 5 bars.
BUT...I'm wondering if this is due to the fact I'm next door to a cell tower? Andy will I ever be able to have children again because I'm so close?
So far, this phone has been awesome. No yellow, no proximity issues and, so far (fingers crossed), no reception issues at all.
