HTC Desire HD :: Keeps Turning Itself Off - Intermittently Staying On
Nov 8, 2010
I've had my HTC Desire HD for just under 2 weeks and it keeps turning itself off. It goes through phases - it will be ok for a couple of days then today for example - I keep putting it to one side after using it and then pick it up again and it has turned off. Today - it is restarting to the White / Green HTC logo screen then turning right off again. But then intermittently it is staying on for a little bit.

I recently bought a 32 GB Sandisk micro SD card to replace the 8 GB one that came with my phone. I used my laptop to transfer all the info from the 8 GB card to the 32 GB card with no issues at all and then installed it in the phone. The phone recognized it and all seemed ok, until I tried to access the new SD card (opening an audio file, taking a new picture, etc). Every time I do that, I get a popup message saying that my SD card has just come unmounted and I need to remount it.
I play around with this for several hours, including reformatting the new card, etc, always getting the same results...even if I put the new card in the phone completely blank and try to take a pic, I get the same "unmounting" error. I've formatted both cards several times to start anew and the formatting is the same as the 8 GB card which works just fine. So, thinking I have a defective SD card, I return it and buy another brand new Sandisk SD card. Repeat all of the above procedures with the same result: "your SD card had unexpectedly come unmounted. Remount and try again".I know the 32 GB cards aren't bad...my laptop will read and write to them just fine.I called the tech support for my cell phone company, and they said that despite what's published (everywhere), my phone will only support a 16 GB SD card. On that note, EVERYTHING I've seen (including the literature with the phone and all the specs online say that it will support a 32 GB SD card.Software wise, I'm running 2.2, which is the most current software version that my carrier (Cellular South) has released.

For the last week or so the phone keeps shutting itself off and restarting only to go into a loop.
I then take battery out and start up again. It will get to the main screen and will just do the same thing again. After ages and ages of messing around it will then seem to be fine.
I've noticed it only seems to do it late in the evening and on the taskbar it keeps showing the gps satalite symbol. If the phone dnt show it then it dnt seem to shut down.
I always believed this phone to be of good reliability but its not. I will be phoning my operator as to me its a faulty phone. I do have anti virus apps which show no problem.

I have HTC Desire. I had some videos and pictures in my mobile. I never deleted them from my mobile, I just transferred them to my PC and with transfer they disappear. I can't see them in Gallery any more. Luckily due to the backup software Astro, i have got my Pictures back but I can't locate my videos anywhere. To remind you, I just transferred them, not deleted them from mobile.

The HTC desire and HT Sync work well with Contacts, Photos and Calendar. But with documents, the synchronisation appears to be from the PC to the Desire and not the other way round. Thus it appears to copy rather than synchronise.

On my PC and Galaxy Tab 10.1, when connected to my home router, I get about 1.5 mbps for my download speed. On the HTC I get less than 500 kbps. Anyone any ideas on how I can improve the download speed on the Desire, or is this the speed which it is supposed to operate at?

It just started yesterday. The phone would shut off randomly and then the only way for it to come back up is to plug it in. Sometime it complete shut off where I would have to turn it back on or plugging it would just go straight to the home screen. Now the phone wont go past the apple sign at all. I got to the home screen two times today and one time it it had no connection and lost service and then it came back and then it had no service again. So I turned it off to try and get signal again.
Eventually it came back on and the phone worked for about 2 minutes and then just complete shut off while still plugged in. I am now trying to restore it and it keeps shutting of mid restore and then I have to keep putting it back into DFU mode or however you spell it. The phone has the most up to date firmware but do I need to start the download over if the phone cycled randomly while it the download was still downloading from itunes or do I just put it back into that mode and let it continue downloading?

My iPhone 4 developed a problem where it shuts itself off intermittently, sometimes at night when it is unattended (and yes, the battery was fully charged). It is my 2nd iPhone 4 with this problem, and from what I see on this forum, not an uncommon problem with this device. Apparently it is a known hardware issue with some iPhone's and the refurbished units they use as replacement devices have not been expunged of this circuit board demon.
Rather than swap out my phone for a new one (or even another refurb), I was given the possible explanations:An application is crashing the OS. (I interpret this statement as IOS 5 is no further evolved than Windows 3.1 where an app can crash the entire OS)An application may be using too much memory causing the phone to shut down (Really? No OS protection or throttling to prevent this?)A 3rd party application might have had a bad update in the App Store and Apple does not review updates (Really? So if I publish an app in the store, I can then update it with miscellaneous viruses and malware? Whoo Hoo)It could be usage (Translation: using an iPhone 4 to play music, run apps and make phone calls may cause the device to fail. Sounds like a breach of Warranty for Fitness of Intended Purpose) I am not an Apple hater. I just want my phone replaced with a non-defective device. I don't appreciate the total run-around and denial of responsibility on Apple's part.

I made a call this morning and then I put it in my back pocket. Ten minutes later when I was going to use it the screen would not come on. I thought it was turned off but it would not turn on when i held down the sleep button and when I called my phone it didn't go strait to voice mail so I know it is still on. I know it isn't dead becuase I fully charged it last night. When I plugged it in to the charger it didn't vibrated like usual. Also when I plugged it into my computer it wouldnt show up on iTunes. I'm at a complete loss of what to do.

The screen on my brand new iPhone 5S 32GB keeps blacking out intermittently. This sometimes happens I turn the phone from portrait to landscape, or sometimes when the keyboard is open and I try to type the letter ‘a’. Each blackout lasts less than a second and everything else appears to function normally, but it is impossible to use the keyboard in landscape mode sometimes as certain key presses black the screen out.Â

My Torch is about 9 months old. I had no problems with it until about a month ago. It constantly reboots. It is not software. Sometimes when you close the slider, it goes dead and reboots. I have now seen that if the slider is open and you softly wiggle the screen part it reboots.. not always.. This tells me that it is a hardware problem. A factory fault if you ask me. My wife's Torch is 2 months old. Same problem. Also reboots for nothing. Work colleague, also a torch. Just over a year old. Same problem. Reboots 4 or 5 times a day. This is definitely not software. If you put it down too hard, or keep it in your pocket. A lot of the time it reboots...

I have ringtones assigned to different people in my contact list.Unfortunately, for one person, the ringtone I have assigned for him doesn't play. Instead, a wimpy US Cellular tone plays, which is very quiet and doesn't get my attention. I have tried over and over again to have a different ringtone play, and it shows it as being the assigned ringtone for calls from this person, but the wimpy US Celluar ringtone plays instead. How do I get the correct ring tone to play? I have this with other contacts as well.I also want the same ringtone to play when I get a text message, but a standard ringtone plays instead.

I have a strange problem which appears to be random. Occasionally it turns itself off for no reason. Occasionally when I slide it open to write sms it turns itself off.Battery is properly seated and battery has charge. These are not low battery conditions. Does anyone else suffer similar problems? How do you prove this to LG as it is random and difficult to replicate?

iPhone 3GS intermittently drops 3G and displays SOS Only. A reset fixes it for a short while before it fails again. I have been having this problem for a while, and have tried many resets and restore, clearing the phone, using the phone as a 'new' iphone with no apps or user data, and it always fails the same way. Other phones in the area on the same carrier display full signal strength when this happens. Following a reset, the phone always works correctly for a period (of between 1 minute and 1 day), then fails again. I suspect I have a hardware fault.

I bought a Nokia E72 two weeks back. Don't have much problems with it. Its a great phone. The only problem I see here is with battery life. Before the phone release it was said that the phone will have 11hr of battery back on call. I was expecting the battery to stand for 3+ days with normal usage, but I am really disappointed by nokia it hardly goes for 2+ days. Any one have any trick to make the battery stay longer or any way to handle the phone which will keep the battery well. The second problem I see with phone is the GPS does not seem to be working. But when I use some external application that uses GPS, it works. I am using google maps which works awesome.
I will keep posting for any new problem encountered. One more big question is that , when the new firmware will get released, how do we install it on phone, do we loose data on phone, do we loose any functionality? Can a firmware resolve the battery issue? I found a nice site where we have many free awesome softwares for nokia e71. www.getjar.com. Every possible software is available here. just set your phone model, and the site will have everything compatible to the phone. Nice web site, I really liked it.
