Google Nexus 5 :: Won't Connect To Any Device Over USB
Nov 26, 2015
So recently I started having this problem. My Nexus 5 stopped charging all of a sudden.
After messing around I found out that I could charge the phone when it is turned off, but when I boot it (while connected) it doesn't show the charging icon. Only when looking up the battery status at the setting menu it says charging.
To my surprise fastboot was still working (adb wasnt) what brought me to think it's not the hardware.
So far I have done a factory reset, wiped everything, installed stock kernel and recovery, downgraded to stock 5.0 (I don't even know why, just thought its worth a shot...).
At some point I took the phone apart to try to determine whether I tore out the connector itself, and noticed nothing.
I can live with having to reboot the phone for charging, but I really need it to connect to the computer.
Since the last windows update from this week windows cant detect my nexus 5. I tried everything. It keeps showing up like "Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed)" And i doesn't show up immediately when i plug in the phone. It takes like 10 seconds, then it shows that with a yellow triangle.
I'm running Cataclysm ROM (the Sept. 10 beta), Franco kernel, and I'm rooted and use Xposed. I receive this error when I try to add a card in Android Pay: "Android Pay cannot be used: Google is unable to verify that your device of the software running on it is Android compatible". I tried disabling root entirely and using RootCloak (Xposed) to hide root from Android Pay and Google Wallet, but I still can't use Pay. Wallet still works as it always has.
I'm on 6.0.1, have factory reseted, and i am still have this problem.
It will say "Cannot connect to Camera" and then quit the camera app. Usually when I am switching from the regular to video camera mode, this is on the newest camera update. BUT, I was having camera stability problems before this.
White Nexus 6, 64gb, all stock but unlocked.
AND, after my factory reset, recommended from Motorola, Motorola Connect keeps quitting on me. The popup shows up and in fact, after I click OK, it shows up again. I had to uninstall it.
I'm gonna probably send it back to Motorola, and do the advanced Exchanged, but now it costs like $25 to do it?
AND, similarly related, prior to my watch's factory reset, at times, i had to SHOUT "OK GOOGLE" into my watch and still nothing would happen.
My nexus 5 is root and use TWRP recovery. every month i get security patch notification but the installation failed. should i unroot my device or revert to stock recovery or both?
I'm trying to use either my nexus 5 or nexus 7 as a webcam for my PC. I bought a webcam on amazon for around $20 and they were complete crap, i cant afford anything more right now and i have both these devices with great cameras already. is there a way to connect them through usb to my PC so i can use them as a webcam? I tried ip webcam but my internet suck and when i stream both the video and anything online it lags and i need lag free. I assumed connecting through usb would be better, but i cant find anything good on how to do that. i tried WO Webcam but it connects briefly and then just disconnects.
I had to replace my Nexus 6. I have backed up "all" of my photos. Hoping that they really are "all" saved. I now have my new device and I am wanting to save my photos to it. But I want to do so in an organized manner. Such as putting all the kids pics in the kids folder type thing. Right now, they are all jumbled up because last time I had to do it through Bluetooth. I read through some forums and saw that you can do that by going to the highlights section...but that only goes so far back [in time] and doesn't have all my photos in it. Not sure how to do it, and I don't want to lose any of my photos, like other people have been by using google to store pics. I want the memory card slots back!
I am attempting to add music to my phone from my computer's music library. When I plug in my Android Nexus 5, I keep getting a message popping up on my computer that says: "Can't access device storage: if your devices screen is locked, disconnect the USB cable, unlock your screen, and then reconnect the USB cable." I have tried this answer without success many times. How do I access and update my music collection from my laptop?? (I have a 2008 Apple MacBook Pro). Is there another way to update my music via internet, or any other method that does not require direct connection?
I have Nexus 5 but 4G doesn't works . My service provider supports 4G service at 800MHz and 1800MHz as it shown here [URL]... , but my nexus 5 d 821 does not work with 4G, I want to ask that if there is a solution like a roms or others things.
I switched to a new mobile provider but I wanted to keep my old mobile number, so I applied to keep my old number through a porting application. I was given a new sim which I put in my LG Nexus 5, and my old sim was in another mobile.
An hour after the porting was applied for, the reception fell to nothing on my old sim and older mobile. This was to be expected of course. However, the reception on my new sim/LG nexus 5 also fell to "emergency calls only" so the porting didn't quite work. I made sure that the APN is correct. I can search for the available networks, but when I press to register after a while I get an error: "Can't connect to this network right now. Please try again later".
I called my new service provider and they told me to wait a bit. I waited till this morning and the issue is still present. I'll be going to the nearest outlet soon but I'd like to be sure that the issue is not my LG Nexus (as I found many problems by other users on the internet), but rather the issue lies in their SIM.
I tried my new sim in 2 other mobiles and I couldn't get any reception. I tried my friend's sim and it worked on my LG. This makes me think that the issue lies with the new SIM and not my mobile.
Error occurs when I try to switch to panoramic camera mode. To recover camera after that I clear cache and data and reboot phone, then I can use the front and rear facing cameras in snapshot mode.
The error also occurs running other apps such as my bank's app to take a photo of a check to deposit. In that case I need to reboot phone to stop the continuous error message "Cannot connect to camera".
I've had a previous issue where my Nexus 6 would not connect to the camera at all even in snapshot mode, but after a couple of factory resets and a few days, the camera worked again, but apparently not in panoramic mode.
Since the camera works at least in in snapshot mode, I'm wondering if this is software or if it is a hardware issue. Phone is still under 1 year factory warranty.
My WiFi is intermittently disconnecting when my device is asleep. I wake it up and the WiFi is often 'disconnected', but connects automatically once it's awake.
When I wake my phone, there's no WiFi connection and there's a little '?' next to the mobile signal icon - but when I wake it up, the WiFi connects and the '?' on the mobile signal disappeared.
'Keep WiFi on during the sleep' is toggled to 'always', so I really can't understand why it's doing this.
I've had Lollipop for about a month now, but it's only started happening today. I've 'forgot' the network, restarted the device and reconnected, but it's still dropping out when my phone's asleep.
For the native gmail app in lollipop, is there some way to get a pop-up at the top of the screen when I'm using the device and a new gmail arrives. I get sound but no pop-up showing a preview of the message. I get it for text messages but not gmails.
I successfully rooted my Nexus 5 without entirely knowing what I was doing. But I am finally ready for the Lollipop update that came over the air several days ago. I finally downloaded it, but when it got ready to install it the phone went into what I believe was recovery mode and said "teamwin," before opening up to a menu. From there, I didn't exactly know what to do to get Lollipop to install itself.
I have successfully changed the Wi-Fi Device Name on my Nexus 5 via Settings > Wi-Fi > Options menu > Wi-Fi Direct > Rename Device.
The problem is that this has not changed what I understand as the Wi-Fi device name, i.e. the network hostname of the device. The hostname remains as "android-<long alphanumeric string>".
I installed a custom recovery on my nexus 6 called Rastapop. Don't get me wrong, its a great rom, it's just not for me. I would like to completely revert back to android 5.0.1 because I loved it. I completely wiped the device before installing Rastapop, so I cannot simply "factory reset" my device.
I can completely handle the flashing process due to the fact that I am an experienced programer. All I need from you is the link to the Nexus 6 5.0.1 ROM, and the link to the Nexus 6 5.0.1 GAPPS (Google Apps).
Iknow how to flash. I do fastboot oem unlock, then I have unlocked LG, but when i flash the ROM it restarts, and adb cant flash the ROM because after reboot the device is locked again.
I can't login to ROM, its bricked so i can use only adb... cant wipe cache and partition , cant reset to factory -
I'm setting up my Nexus 6P and see this option that says I can transfer stuff from my old android to my new one but when I open Google App and go to settings I cannot find anything called "search for nearby device"...where is it? Also, is this feature in just Lollipop and higher?
My device runs on AOSIP Hammerhead 2.2 ROM with Solo Gapps. Everything was fine until 2 a couple of days back my device started rebooting at regular intervals. Sometimes when I unlock the screen it reboots, or which working with some application it reboots. After suggestions from some friends I did a dirty and clean flash as well and did a fresh flashing of the ROM + Gapps. But it still ain't resolving my problem.
I had a lot of issues with lollipop 5.1.1 in my nexus. All Google apps connected to internet only via WiFi and it wouldn't connect through the mobile data connection.
And then there was the battery life problem. So I switched to PA 4.6 beta based on kitkat. I would now like to try Marshmallow.
My question is, will downloading the factory image and flashing it through clockwork mod work? Or should I revert back to 5.1.1 nandroid backup I made earlier and wait for OTA? I can see some post about a feature called verity and the complications it brings to rooted users in 6.0. Does this affect the process of flashing a stock factory image on a rooted phone?
Unfortunately, I cannot seem to connect to the Play Store. I have tried most solutions I found on the internet but none have worked.
The only big changes I have made to the device since the issue arose is a change of Google password and a manual install of an apk (an update I wasn't receiving). What could be causing this?
It appears this is long-running problem plaguing N5's for some time. I saw sporadical "Can't connect to camera" on 5.0.1 but after update to 5.1 (I flashed the stock image) I literally cannot get the camera working for more than 1 unlock session.
I did have root but I thought it might be a problem so I unrooted and reflashed stock, but no dice. The only other thing I can imagine to do is factory reset, but I have a few security apps that will need some time to be setup again (mostly banking and 2 factor stuff), plus I am not sure if I can restore data w/o Titanium using Google's new 'Restore', so I'm keeping the factory reset as last option.
The only apps which *may* be accessing camera are Trusted face unlock, Whatsapp and Hangouts.
My nexus 5 is having screen issues and the screen basically doesn't function due to what I can only assume is a bad connection on the mainboard ( if I press in the right area with the back cover off the screen will flicker and work a tiny bit if I reboot the phone.) My issue is I still have tons of pictures that are very dear to me on the device and need to get them off of it.
When I connect it to my pc (windows 7) it connects and shows up as a nexus 5 device but nothing will appear in the folder. Im fairly certain I have the correct drivers installed as well. So how can I get it to connect properly with having basically no access to the screen?
I have a rooted N5 and im running 6.0 build MRA58K and continue to get prompted to install a security update. My question is, is it safe to install this update, will i lose root or have to reroot? If i "unroot" the system with supersu and then install it after, would that work too? Also i would like to update my kernel to the newest version. Im running blu_spark build #30. Would i just reflash the kernel or do i have to jump through hoops by reflashing the rom first? I dont remember how it works.
I currently have an unlocked Nexus 6 running latest build of 5.1 on Verizon right now since Sunday. However I can't get the Nexus to show in my Android Device Manager. The Nexus does show in Google Play. I have cleared cache and data from Device Manager app, I have uninstalled and re installed Device Manager as well. I have went into Google settings>Security and toggled on and off "Remotely locate this device" and "Allow remote lock and erase". I have powered down and on this device several times. I have removed my Google account and then resigned back into the account. I just can't think of anything else to do. I have searched online for this problem and have done everything that was told to me. I am hoping not to factory reset the device but if its the last result, I may not have a choose.
P.S. Is there a setting that I'm missing that has either Gmail or Inbox app retrieve emails quicker. It doesn't seem to be refreshing or pushing the emails to my phone very often. I have missed couple very important emails because of this. Not sure if its a related problem with the device manager situtation (doubt it).
Just checking in on Android Device Manager every now and then, and I notice the Nexus 6 I've had since November is a no show. My Nexus 7 and Asus TF Prime show on the list as expected.
I have Android Device Manager enabled as an administrator in the phone settings, and I don't see much in the way of settings on the site.
