For the native gmail app in lollipop, is there some way to get a pop-up at the top of the screen when I'm using the device and a new gmail arrives. I get sound but no pop-up showing a preview of the message. I get it for text messages but not gmails.
View 2 RepliesI started having this issue yesterday--I have YMail, Hotmail and GMail accounts all in the stock e-mail app on my Nexus 5. I also use Lightflow for LED notifications and have had no problems. I noticed I was no longer receiving the taskbar icon notifications in the upper left for new e-mails, nor the Lightflow LED notifications. I still get Hangout/text notifications, not sure about missed calls.
1) Confirmed notifications set to On in the e-mail app for each of the e-mail accounts
2) Turned phone off and then back on
3) Cleared data and cleared cache in e-mail app -- didn't work
4) Uninstalled Lightflow app
5) Deleted all 3 accounts from the e-mail app, then added them back in; rebooted -- still no notifications
I don't use the stock GMail app for GMail since I prefer to just have one icon to use to keep track of all my e-mail accounts.
I just updated my Lenovo Tab 2 to 5.01, everything works great other than no pop up Notifications on screen. I know some people don't like them but I do. I've checked settings in Sounds and Notifications so not sure what the problem is.

My Galaxy S3 and past iphones all simply show you a notification with a number on the mail or messages app itself, telling me how many I have new or unread. I believe there is even a third party app for Gmail. But I assume it should simply be a setting to the existing apps or a active widget. But no luck.
Am I missing a setting, or is there really no actual unread message totals notification on the email and hangouts icons?
I've replaced Hangouts with Textra. Seems to be a good choice. Only thing that bugs me is the notifications give you no information other than you've received a text. You have to unlock the phone then open Textra and find the message. It's a bit ordinary.
I tried Slidelock and NiLS but wasn't too fussed on either, though maybe I didn't set them up properly. NiLS was particularly annoying, with the notifications interfering with the lock screen operation. Slidelock was just plain buggy.
I recently changed from an iPhone 6 plus to Nexus 6. One of the things I liked from the iPhone is when you ge a notification whilst you are browsing etc it will show a quick preview of it at the top of the phone then slide away. It appears the nexus just shows the icon in the top bar so you have to physically look who the message text etc is from by sliding the bar down. Not a major annoyance but is there any way you can change the type of notification you receive when the screen is unlocked?

Is this normal or is there a setting on my phone that is not enabled correctly? I kinda don't like this, I'm use to my phone briefly turning it's screen on when incoming alerts hit my device (coming from an iPhone.)
View 24 Replies View Related My nexus 5 is having screen issues and the screen basically doesn't function due to what I can only assume is a bad connection on the mainboard ( if I press in the right area with the back cover off the screen will flicker and work a tiny bit if I reboot the phone.) My issue is I still have tons of pictures that are very dear to me on the device and need to get them off of it.
When I connect it to my pc (windows 7) it connects and shows up as a nexus 5 device but nothing will appear in the folder. Im fairly certain I have the correct drivers installed as well. So how can I get it to connect properly with having basically no access to the screen?
I'm now getting repeated notifications on my Nexus 5 (Android 5.0.1) about how Google+ (version 4.8.0.81189390) has backed up my photos. The same photos. Over and over and over again. It didn't do this in previous versions. I don't know if this is a Nexus problem, a Lollipop problem, or a Google+ app problem. But, how I get it to stop?

I receive this error when I try to add a card in Android Pay: "Android Pay cannot be used: Google is unable to verify that your device of the software running on it is Android compatible". I tried disabling root entirely and using RootCloak (Xposed) to hide root from Android Pay and Google Wallet, but I still can't use Pay. Wallet still works as it always has.

For some reason when a whatsapp pop up comes up on the locked screen and i press view it doesn't open up the lock screen, i have to press view and then manually unlock the phone. This doesn't happen when i get an sms pop up. Why is this? i played with every setting possible.
Also, when i watch a youtube video and get a whatsapp or sms notification it stops the video. This didn't happen on iphone and was wondering if ther is a way to change it.

Because like for example i have to run Skype all the time and the phone is asleep and on wifi i wake it up Skype status icon appears Offline and after 5 seconds being awake the status icon turn Online. They show up, displaying the correct information, but the buttons doesn't work. This is causing me to have to dismiss the notification, open the notification tray and act on the notification from there. Is it something an app I'm using that's causing the problem?
