I would like to get a Blackberry but have been told that apart from the phone rental and call charges I have to pay the £29.00 a month data package to enable any email functions on the phone.
This apparently is due to the setup between my provider (Gibtel) and RIM.I have the choice of many other phones which mean I can use emails and all the functionality of the phone without (e.g. Wifi) having a data plan.

If I have a Wi-Fi connection, does that equate to a "generic data plan", thus Blackberry functions won't work over it?My data plan is unlimited, which is good, but it's really slow compared to my home broadband, so that's not good. I'd like it to default to using my Wi-Fi connection as much as possible.

I have a data add on. The Nextel Online is Messaging involved with Text. The second has to do with data. Is it possible that I could just flash the phone like how they do for Boost and I will be able to text??? Cause what a phone if you can't text.

I clarify... with a wi-fi connection, I have UMA and the BB icon, and everything is fine when I'm outside, I have GPRS (capital letters), and BB services seem to work as well, but no BB icon.The Orange assitance told me that as long as the services are working, it doesn't matter whether I have the icon or not, but it seems weird to me.

The bar on the top of the screen between the "select a profile" and the "search magnifying glass" where the notifications pop up not sure what that page is called but in this slide down screen under Text Messages I have a text message that is staying at unread. Even though I have deleted the text message and I've tried everything to try and get it to go away. Today I have a Blackberry Messenger Message that won't delete as well. Does anyone else have this problem and figure out a way to refresh and get ride of it? I've tried turning the device on and off a few times but doesn't fix the issue.

When I clicked on the message icon, it would open to the full inbox, just not the conversation with the new text message. I want to know if there is a way I can do this with my iPhone as well.

As I was having my iphone 4 activated, the "genius" informed me that Facetime will not work unless you have a message plan with AT&T. Funny how those "free" Facetime chats now cost $5 per month. Again, AT&T and Apple do a bait and switch. Or did they assume everyone had a message plan. I didn't and I still don't. Text messaging is the biggest scam these wireless companies have going. I can send an email with attachments, photos, videos, War & Peace if I want to and it doesn't cost me a nickel. Sent a two letter text message and it will cost me $0.20. If I really want to send a text, there are dozens of free text apps out there. Apparently, when you initiate a facetime call, it sends a text message to the recipient which doesn't count as a text message. So why the hell do you need a plan? Charge me $.20, not $5.00 per month. Blatant false advertising!!!!!
View 21 Replies View RelatedSo I used to have that 1500 text messaging plan for $8.99 with the feature code TMS4 applied to my FAN account then I ended up switching to an unlimited plan before I got my iPhone 4. I want to now go back to that special plan but I called AT&T and they told me I had been grandfathered in on that plan previously before I switched to the unlimited plan and they wouldn't add it back on for me now. My question is did anyone that still had that texting plan get to keep it when they switched to their iPhone 4 or has anyone tried adding that plan to their current/new AT&T plan? If anyone is interested in helping me out by trying to add it to their plan now all you had to do was call 611 on your phone and ask the AT&T rep to add the TMS4 text messaging plan to your existing FAN account.

It only happens with texts from him, no-one else. I've tried deleting our conversation but it makes no difference. It's getting so frustrating cos I have to keep asking him to text me again and a lot of the time I just get another 'cracked' text!

Since, I do not have a subscription for multimedia messages with my service provider, the message remains in the outbox and never gets sent.
Can someone advice why the text message converts to multimedia message? How to prevent this from happening everytime I send/forward text message to more than 10 people from the contacts list?

I can use my BB to access the web using free wi-fi as i have been doing with my last 4 smartphones.Big mistake. i have been charged 55 us last month, for data transfer use , i ran to my plan“s assistance office ( telcel in Mexico ), and the answer i got was. you have to get a data plan from us to be able to use wi-fi ( obviuosly i stared at her , just nodding my head ).There is no point in having a device that has acces to wi fi networks , if i cant access the wi fi network without you data plan, so i got the lady to bring the tech guy. His response was...naaahhh...it will access the wi fi. but we“ll charge u anyway. you need to disable the network from the phone and only leave the wi fi option on so you can access without any other charge, but this will leave you with no phone connection.

I Often times I'll get a " message failed" message while trying to send text or iMessages to friends. The only way it'll eventually send is if I dekete tge entire message thread. Any way I can fix this problem on my iPhone 6 plus?

So I went through and got rid of a heap of stuff - songs, videos the kinda things that are big files, and still no change.
My phone memory has 368kb free and my memory card has 3734 mb of free memory.Was working perfectly fine yesterday with more data and my phone stores about 1000 messages pretty easily, several videos, songs etc..
