BlackBerry :: Data Plan Is £29.00 A Month?

Sep 8, 2011

I am new to these forums and Blackberry. In Gibraltar, we have a Telecom provider whose data plan is £29.00 a month.

I would like to get a Blackberry but have been told that apart from the phone rental and call charges I have to pay the £29.00 a month data package to enable any email functions on the phone.

This apparently is due to the setup between my provider (Gibtel) and RIM.I have the choice of many other phones which mean I can use emails and all the functionality of the phone without (e.g. Wifi) having a data plan.

BlackBerry :: Using A Wi-Fi Connection Rather Than Data Plan?

Dec 12, 2010

[URL] So according this faq, certain functions don't work with a generic data plan, they only work if you have the Blackberry data plan. If I have a Wi-Fi connection, does that equate to a "generic data plan", thus Blackberry functions won't work over it?My data plan is unlimited, which is good, but it's really slow compared to my home broadband, so that's not good. I'd like it to default to using my Wi-Fi connection as much as possible.

BB Curve 8350i :: Need Blackberry Data Plan For SMS

Jan 18, 2010

I have a Nextel phone, just got an 8350i curve. Switched the SIM card and calls work and DC, but I can't text cause I have heard you need a BB data plan. I have a data add on. The Nextel Online is Messaging involved with Text. The second has to do with data. Is it possible that I could just flash the phone like how they do for Boost and I will be able to text??? Cause what a phone if you can't text.

BlackBerry :: Data Plan Working Properly?

Apr 16, 2011

is it allright if my BB data plan is working on a GPRS (capital letters) connection but without the BB icon? I clarify... with a wi-fi connection, I have UMA and the BB icon, and everything is fine when I'm outside, I have GPRS (capital letters), and BB services seem to work as well, but no BB icon. The Orange assitance told me that as long as the services are working, it doesn't matter whether I have the icon or not, but it seems weird to me.

I want to know if I can put my existing SIM card in the iPhone 3GS and expect it to work normally, i.e. surf the web, load apps, check email . If not, please advise how this can be done without incurring a rate increase or per use fees. Is data usage the same regardless of the phone's make?

BB Curve :: Wifi Without Data Plan?

Sep 16, 2011

I purchased my blackberry in August 2011 and signed up for a talk/text plan with Koodo. I used my wifi at home to access the internet on my blackberry then one day, it stopped working. The Koodo people tell me that RIM did some kind of 'service book push' that has now blocked all wifi capabilities so now I have to purchase a data plan to get wifi. Is this accurate or is Koodo just trying to get me to sign up for a data plan just so I can access my wifi at home?

BB Bold 9000 :: Wifi Using Data Plan

Sep 9, 2010

Though I subscribed to my carrier for GPRS services, but the plan has a limit on the data. I have to pay additional if the data exceeds the limit. Therefore when I'm at hotspots or at home, naturally I would want to switch to WIFI to save on costs. Actually, you are right on switching off the data services, it would turn off WIFI as well. So I did a little test. I turned off the entire mobile coverage and left only WIFI on ( which means I'm only connected to my WIFI). I was still able to surf the internet and download both my office and personal emails.

So my only question now is (sort of getting a confirmation), there is no way to turn off the GPRS and leave both the mobile (voice) and WIFI on at the same time?
