whenever i go onto a website in a place where i am connected to free wifi, it says i am on a service plan that requires a wifi connection to use the application and need to update my data plan. The only website that works is facebook. What do i do?
View 7 RepliesI have had my blackberry for over a year and have had no problem until about a month ago. I redid my 6months blackberry internet booster like usual, but when it had been activated, none of my apps will work and none of my emails come in. My browser still works like usual though. I have phoned t-mobile up but they keep saying everything is correct and to just keep restarting my phone. i have been restarting it by doing the battery reboot about 3 times a day for the last month. I still cant use my apps. I phoned them again and they said blackberry was down aand it would come back in the next few days. No-one else i no has this problem. What can i do?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI got a new Curve 8520 just resently and have a problem with my internet connection. I use my Curve without data plan/bis. To go in the internet I use Opera 5.0 and for Emails logicmail. To connect to the internet, I changed my APN according to my provider setting:
apn: internet (thats for o2 Germany)
No authentification
Username/PW: blank
On the first day, everything worked just fine, Opera aswell as Logicmail. I also had a EDGE symbol in the upper right corner. On the second date I found, that Opera and logicmail would not connect via Wifi. So I started to play around with settings. Anyway, since then Opera and Logicmail refused to connect via EDGE, however Wifi worked.... I could not figure out the ressons, so I tried to undo my setting changes. And yesterday I was finally able to connect via EDGE again. And here is the funny thing: This morning, I got the same errors agian, when trying to connect via EDGE. I did not do anything with the phone last night, it just refuses to connect. It still shows me the edge sign, but opera always tells me, that it is unable to connect. I set the application application permisson for both programs to "prompt" under the point "internet" to see if the phone even tries to connect, but it does not. Wifi still works fine. It seems that my Blackberry forgot about EDGE and always wants to connect via wifi.Can anyone help me out here?
when i click on my facebook app it says ' you are currently on a service plan that does not support this application. if you want to use this application, please conact your service provider to upgrade your data plan' but i am on pay monthly and can get onto the internet jus not the facebook app. Also my phone will not connect to any WIFI at all.

If I'm at home and got the wifi on and want to go on the internet, how do I know I'm using wifi and not my data plan? I only have 250mb data plan and don't want to be using it up when I'm on the net with the wifi on. It says the name of the router at the top of my phone, but also 3G. I can't tell if I'm connecting via the wifi router or phone connection.

I used my wifi at home to access the internet on my blackberry then one day, it stopped working. The Koodo people tell me that RIM did some kind of 'service book push' that has now blocked all wifi capabilities so now I have to purchase a data plan to get wifi. Is this accurate or is Koodo just trying to get me to sign up for a data plan just so I can access my wifi at home?

I can use my BB to access the web using free wi-fi as i have been doing with my last 4 smartphones.Big mistake. i have been charged 55 us last month, for data transfer use , i ran to my planŽs assistance office ( telcel in Mexico ), and the answer i got was. you have to get a data plan from us to be able to use wi-fi ( obviuosly i stared at her , just nodding my head ).There is no point in having a device that has acces to wi fi networks , if i cant access the wi fi network without you data plan, so i got the lady to bring the tech guy. His response was...naaahhh...it will access the wi fi. but weŽll charge u anyway. you need to disable the network from the phone and only leave the wi fi option on so you can access without any other charge, but this will leave you with no phone connection.

If I have a Wi-Fi connection, does that equate to a "generic data plan", thus Blackberry functions won't work over it?My data plan is unlimited, which is good, but it's really slow compared to my home broadband, so that's not good. I'd like it to default to using my Wi-Fi connection as much as possible.

View 2 Replies View RelatedThough I subscribed to my carrier for GPRS services, but the plan has a limit on the data. I have to pay additional if the data exceeds the limit. Therefore when I'm at hotspots or at home, naturally I would want to switch to WIFI to save on costs. Actually,you are right on switching off the data services, it would turn off WIFI as well. So I did a little test. I turned off the entire mobile coverage and left only WIFI on ( which means I'm only connected to my WIFI). I was still able to surf the internet and download both my office and personal emails.
So my only question now is (sort of getting a confirmation), there is no way to turn off the GPRS and leave both the mobile (voice) and WIFI on at the same time?
I just buy a Blackberry bold 9700 and i try to connect to wifi at home ! Works great with facebook, browser etc. But now, i go to my work place and insert the wifi password. It's says to me that it is connected but it still use the wap to connect the internet. (I don't have data plan). So I am charged for connecting with the browser. I go >manage connection>mobile network options> and try to turn off the date services. But when i do, i cannot connect neither with the wifi nor with the wap. Try to understand me, how can the mobile tell me that i am connected to wifi, but use the mobile network to connect the internet which is a charged service.

i have a problem with my blackberr torch 9860. my phone won't use my wifi connection even though i am perfectly connected with the broght white indication. It also seems to not use my data service plan too, because when i inserted a sim with a registered data plan already, the edge indicator should have become capitalized but it won't. i can't even use my facebook and twitter with it. even the app world is not usable, it keeps on saying "the data service is not operational' i tried using the hard reset and the factory reset but nothing seems to chenge.

Currently I don't want to sign up for a Data plan. I want to use my Wifi connection in the office or at home in order to get my emails.
