View 4 RepliesI have t-mobile as my provider, and I have their new limited $15/month data plan with my HTC HD2.I was wondering whether I can use wifi without data usage going towards my data plan.I expect that the 200MB limit will be reached pretty quickly if I cannot use wifi to balance things out.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI just got the nokia e73 with no data plan but when i try to go online (using wifi at home) i get a message telling me i will be charged for data, though i was under the impression that wifi is free...the message i get is from a web2go browser: "you will be charged $1.99/mb for data access, which includes accessing mobile websites from your device......" is there any way to get around this? are others having this problem? i know others are having problems connecting to the internet but it seems that i can connect to wifi (it detects and tells me i'm connected..)

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm gradually getting used to and liking my new BlackBerry! If I'm at home and got the wifi on and want to go on the internet, how do I know I'm using wifi and not my data plan? I only have 250mb data plan and don't want to be using it up when I'm on the net with the wifi on. It says the name of the router at the top of my phone, but also 3G. I can't tell if I'm connecting via the wifi router or phone connection.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI purchased my blackberry in August 2011 and signed up for a talk/text plan with Koodo. I used my wifi at home to access the internet on my blackberry then one day, it stopped working. The Koodo people tell me that RIM did some kind of 'service book push' that has now blocked all wifi capabilities so now I have to purchase a data plan to get wifi. Is this accurate or is Koodo just trying to get me to sign up for a data plan just so I can access my wifi at home?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a nokia lumia 900 from at&t and is there a way to close the internet in the phone (without using the data plan for extra charges) and ONLY use wifi ?
View 2 Replies View RelatedThough I subscribed to my carrier for GPRS services, but the plan has a limit on the data. I have to pay additional if the data exceeds the limit. Therefore when I'm at hotspots or at home, naturally I would want to switch to WIFI to save on costs. Actually, you are right on switching off the data services, it would turn off WIFI as well. So I did a little test. I turned off the entire mobile coverage and left only WIFI on ( which means I'm only connected to my WIFI). I was still able to surf the internet and download both my office and personal emails.
So my only question now is (sort of getting a confirmation), there is no way to turn off the GPRS and leave both the mobile (voice) and WIFI on at the same time?
I just buy a Blackberry bold 9700 and i try to connect to wifi at home ! Works great with facebook, browser etc. But now, i go to my work place and insert the wifi password. It's says to me that it is connected but it still use the wap to connect the internet. (I don't have data plan). So I am charged for connecting with the browser. I go >manage connection>mobile network options> and try to turn off the date services. But when i do, i cannot connect neither with the wifi nor with the wap. Try to understand me, how can the mobile tell me that i am connected to wifi, but use the mobile network to connect the internet which is a charged service.

i have a problem with my blackberr torch 9860. my phone won't use my wifi connection even though i am perfectly connected with the broght white indication. It also seems to not use my data service plan too, because when i inserted a sim with a registered data plan already, the edge indicator should have become capitalized but it won't. i can't even use my facebook and twitter with it. even the app world is not usable, it keeps on saying "the data service is not operational' i tried using the hard reset and the factory reset but nothing seems to chenge.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI am new here, so thanks for any help. Great Community. I read already a few posts but couldn't find a solution. I want to check my gmail emails through my Bold 9700. Currently I don't want to sign up for a Data plan. I want to use my Wifi connection in the office or at home in order to get my emails. I don't need push function but I don't want to go through the webpage and log in. I just want to press any button and receive my emails on request.
Is there any way to get my emails? My friend has a iphone and he can choose between manual email receiving with wifi or push with data plan.
I am looking to buy a second hand bold 9000 on 3 network. What I would like to know please is whether I can use the wifi to access the internet and email from my wireless router free of charge or do I have to have a data plan to do so. The idea I have is to use the limited internet and messaging that 3 offer on top up whilst mobile , but to only use wifi indoors.

View 3 Replies View RelatedVerizon Wireless now has a really good hotspot tethering plan for 4G phones. For $30/mo you get unlimited 4G tethering on your phone which is a bargain compared to the tablet plans especially considering 4G is 10x the 3G speeds. It makes we want to run out now and get a Samsung Charge so I can drop my 3gB Xoom plan. I'm going to stick with my Xoom data for now and hold out a three or four weeks for the Bionic. Hopefully Verizon won't change this offer before the Bionic comes out.

I have the 8520, and have no data plan with my carrier in my post payment plan, i thought , since i have wi-fi at home, office and tons of hot spots. I can use my BB to access the web using free wi-fi as i have been doing with my last 4 smartphones.Big mistake. i have been charged 55 us last month, for data transfer use , i ran to my planŽs assistance office ( telcel in Mexico ), and the answer i got was. you have to get a data plan from us to be able to use wi-fi ( obviuosly i stared at her , just nodding my head ).There is no point in having a device that has acces to wi fi networks , if i cant access the wi fi network without you data plan, so i got the lady to bring the tech guy. His response was...naaahhh...it will access the wi fi. but weŽll charge u anyway. you need to disable the network from the phone and only leave the wi fi option on so you can access without any other charge, but this will leave you with no phone connection.
Is this real? did i just spend 399us in a gadget that has wi fi capabilities but will not be able to get on any wi fi connection form home or work, without being charged for data transmission over my cell providers network?cmon this sounds as stupid as it does in my head ? i would be really disapointed if i just left my old Nokia E71 SPhone, for this beautiful BB Curve 8520 THAT DOES NOT CONNECT TO THE WI Fi.
Right now I'm on a TELUS family plan with 4 people and there are no iPhones. I want to get an iPhone and have it on the family plan but also not buy a data plan. Is it possible to do this? So basically my plan would be around $25 a month with unlimited text and caller ID.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI checked out my data usage on the att website and it turns out surprisingly that i consistently use under 200mb a month.
1. I beejive im every work day for at least 2 hours on edge(don't tell my boss) but it suprisingly only comes out to only about 4mbs per day (if i used 3g would the data consumption be higher?)
2. I maybe use slingplayer 1 day a month on 3g (sad) about 10mbs i think
3. I grab email manually by opening up the mail app maybe twice a day max.
Do you think i should switch asap? or is it best recommended to view iphone 4 data usage first in case i upload 720p video (which i doubt they will let you do)
I bought an iPhone 3GS off a guy on craigslist and it works great, no complaints. But every few minutes or so I get the alert saying that I "Cannot activate cellular data network - You are not subscribed to a cellular data service", and it's really annoying because it lights up my iPhone all the time and kills my battery. It's also really annoying - it comes up whenever I'm typing a message or playing a game; literally when I do ANYTHING on my phone. I do not have a data plan, but I have used 'unlockit.co.nz' to install a Fake APN to my iPhone to block data. Rogers has also given me a data block. This has been going on ever since I bought the phone, I thought installing a Fake APN would stop it but I guess not. I can't really restore since I have a lot of stuff on this iPhone already.. but if that's the only option then I will be forced to. I used to have an unlocked Fido 3G (about 2 months ago) without data and it never gave me this alert, do you think it has something to do with my 3GS being locked to Rogers?
This phone is a jailbroken iPhone 3GS (model MC143C) running version 3.1.3 (7E18) and locked to the "Rogers 5.0" network. If it helps the modem firmware is 05.12.01.if there are no real solutions, I still have 2 months left on my warranty. Would Apple fix it or give me a new one if I un-jailbreak it?
