BB Software :: Gmail Is Set To IMAP Only With POP Disabled
May 11, 2010
Within the last couple of weeks, emails are not being removed from the Blackberry after removed from outlook or the web inteface. I have deleted/readded the account via BIS, wireless reconcile is on and no go. Services books sent many times and a few device wipes.Gmail is set to IMAP only with POP disabled.
I have been using gmail as my personal email and it's been syncing wonderfully via IMAP with my blackberry. My company just migrated over to a hosted gmail and I've added the email address to my BB and have configured the setting to IMAP enabled. I added the additional Lab to make sure the "show in imap" is checked off. However, I'm not receiving any emails. The ironic thing is that I'm able to send emails via my bb but when I reply from the outside address (reply via online), the reply message arrives in my actual inbox but not on my bb.
I bought the SE Aspen couple of days ago and ran into an email problem. Im located in Finland and using Sonera's network (all bells and whistles installed). The Ready to Run app loaded all settings ok and browsing via exploder is ok. SMS and MMS are also working as they should. But for some reason when im trying to access my gmail IMAP account via Aspens email app I get a sync error -message when in 3g/gprs areas. In wifi the folders + inbox load ok (allthough the folders appear to be empty). In my previous devices i've used ProfiMail (which I think is THE mobile email app if you're using IMAP) and I installed it to Aspen too. Same thing here, in wifi everything works (every folders content in displayed properly) but when out of wifi area > sync error. I've tried to play with the settings (have also set them manually as service provider's web manual instructs) and I'm pretty sure Sonera's settings are ok, since browsing, SMS and MMS work when in 3g/gprs coverage. access my gmail account via exploder also in 3g/gprs so im able to read incoming mail but because of my work (sales) i rely heavily on the information i have stored in my various gmail folders when on the road > accessing these and manipulating them via browser isnt fun/ possible. Also one other "fault" I have discovered in Aspen is that when using network updated time zone, it suggests that i change my time zone few times in a day (im in +2 zone and Aspen tells me to switch to and from +3 zone every now and then). I never had this problem with my previous (non-SE phones).
I was in gmail and I thought all of the e-mails in the All Mail folder were old/deleted emails. I checked the first hundred and they were all old. So I deleted them and that moved them to the Trash. Then I deleted the Trash. Apparently ALL of my e-mails were in the All Mail folder.. but that's not what it appeared when I looked in the All Mail folder to make sure that wasn't the case.
I use IMAP with my gmail account. They are gone when I log into gmail. They are gone in Thunderbird. But I have not updated my mail on my iPhone...any chance I can recover them from there?
Why when trying to setup my gmail account on this supposedly incredible iPhone 4S it keeps telling me that imap username and or password is wrong? I have tried everything I was told and still same problem?
So my gmail address list or contacts seems to have been hacked and all my contacts who are still talking to me have told me so.So I changed my gmail password. No more complaints, and probably no more friends as contacts.Â
But seriously, I have been able to get gmail (web) working with my new double authentication password(s). Also, my outlook for MAC is working using the special "generated App Password". (because Outlook cannot do the double authentication thingie)Ditto for the gmail app from google on my iPhone. (it works too).BUT I cannot get the iPhone Mail App to connect to Gmail.
I have deleted (i thought) my existing gmail setup from my iPhone. When I try to re establish the gmail settings, using either the password generated by the MAC / iCloud keychain generator or the App password, I get the message "My Name" is already added.
It looks to me that there is something in the iPhone that matches my gmail address, even though I deleted the account.Â

I keep getting this message on my phone when I try to get my email: The username or password for imap.gmail.com is incorrect. It is correct. I can access it on my computer with ease. what gives?
I have a Blackberry Curve 8530 with v5.0.xx installed. I just setup my Gmail IMAP on my BB and when I read a message on my BB it doesn't show as read on my computer and visa versa.
I am having repeated and seemingly inconsistent (though currently consistently) problems with gmail saying my password is incorrect. It's not. I tried this with push, and then resorted back to imap (with gpush app) and it now won't accept my password with imap at all. Gmail is not working with my iphone at all! What is the problem here? in the past two months gmail and my iphone don't play together well at all anymore!
My Photon 4 G does not sync calendar, contact, Gmail with my company Gmail account. I believe that it just stopped syncing last week and I believe that it was following a Motorola update, but cannot say for sure. Under Data Delivery, both Background Data and Data enabled are checked green. However, this is interesting because Email and corporate sync is grayed out on that screen. When I go to Account, checking the sync options is not possible, but I can do a manual sync. Please note, at one time, these options to sync Contacts, Gmail and Calendar were available. I've pulled the batter. I really do not want to reset to factory default. Suggestions? (Please note this is a company Gmail account, not just regular Gmail.)
Went through and set up my gmail through the email set up wizard. Used these exact steps: http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/search.do?cmd=displayKC&docType=kc&externalId=KB03087
Issue is I'm not seeing any of my existing / read messages on my phone. After set up I had zero messages in my blackberry email inbox. How do I go about getting these message in my blackberry email?
I don't know if my thread title makes sense but basically what I would like to know is what are the advantages of downloading the Gmail app vs just setting up a Gmail account through my BIS (Email Settings/Add Account)? My main objective here is wireless contacts sync. I have read a lot of negative feedback regarding Gmail on a BlackBerry but I will not really even be using this for email all to often, although I will from time to time. What I have done is just added my new Gmail account through the native BlackBerry email setup and then downloaded Google Sync. I downloaded the Gmail app but I didn't really like the UI and I like to have all 3 of my email accounts go into the same folder.
When I get an email I like how the blackberry automatically opens up the email application if I pull it out of the holster. The only problem is that it pulls up the Messages inbox and not my gmail account inbox.Any way to fix this or do anything about it? I have the gmail enhanced plugin if that makes a difference. Also on a totally unrelated note is there a way to search the gmail server from the gmail plugin app?
Does the native HTC Mail app in Sense UI, push gmail? Or any other IMAP connections that support the IDLE command? Or does only the native gmail app push gmail? I ask, because I have multiple email accounts on my phone, gmail, hotmail, etc.. gmail is on the native gmail app, which is currently pushing... but the others are in the HTC Mail app.
I'd rather have 1 app for everything, instead of bouncing between.. IMAP is IMAP.. which the HTC Mail app supports (for moving to and from folders).. but if it doesn't push using the IDLE command (like gmail app does).. then I'm stuck where I am.
I've about had it with having email on 2 devices.I use Gmail and I have my laptop and my iPhone. I'd like to receive a copy of the email on BOTH devices every time I receive one and then DELETE the email FROM THE SERVER when I delete a message.
I'm tired of going 2 weeks without touching my iPhone and then the next time I pick it up I have 50 messages, all of which I have read and deleted on my Mac.Why can't anything be as easy as Apple's approach? I'm gritting my teach and on the verge of paying for mobileme.
Those who have upgraded to new FW 031.023, could you please tell me if there are any major issues with IMAP email support ? I am on FW 021.024 and email works perfectly. I cannot use MFE for my office email and so have to depend on IMAP.
I have a N97 and have set up my IMAP email and all works ok, the only problem I have is that I can't find where to set up the sent mail folders. Currently I have to copy myself in on emails and have set up a rule in outlook to move these to the sent items folder. There must be a way of syncing the sent mail folders?? Can anyone help please.
I've had Blackberries for several years on T-Mobile, and I was always able to set up my mail accounts as either IMAP or POP3. I've switched to Verizon and when I set up my email accounts, they default to IMAP. I own my own domain and both IMAP and POP3 are supported.
I tried deleting my email accounts and setting them up again with an incorrect password so I could enter my own settings. However, I'm not given the option to select POP or IMAP. I prefer POP so that if I delete a message on my handlheld it will also be deleted from the server.
I'm having trouble setting up an IMAP email account. I have set up a new account through Setup > Email Settings but the Advanced Options says that the Email server type is "POP". How do I change this to IMAP?
A company I consult has FINALLY moved from POP3 email to IMAP. They are hosting with Network Solutions and NS just added the service to their account for an up-charge. The server information isn't changing at all, just the protocol.
When we reconfigure Outlook to use IMAP, will we also have to reconfigure all the Blackberrys or will they simply pickup the IMAP protocol from the server automatically?
In the past when I have set up Blackberrys I don't remember there being a distinction between POP and IMAP in the setup--if I remember correctly, POP/IMAP was always the same selection.
What should I do to create an ordinary IMAP account with N97 S60 mail application? It used to be easy, but now the account setup is some kind of automated process - optimized for Ovi Mail, Gmail and such services. My email account surname is not my email address (fist.surname@gmail.com type) but something like "fisurnam". The result is that I give my password in vain, no connection established.
What should I do to create the account? It is also not clear, am I giving my password to Nokia service or is it going directly to the email account provider. This is an important thing as my work email password may not be given to anyone, not even to Nokia.
I use IMAP with my email account and set it up on my N97 (firmware v21.0.045). I have a lot of IMAP folders since i ready many mailing lists, they contain about 3000 mails at the moment. After setting it up on my N97 my C: went down from 15 MB to 1,4 MB! Although I set the memory to be used to E:. And IMAP does not download the whole mail, but just the header. So i wonder, why does IMAP on the N97 fill up C: so much? Why does it not completely use E: when told so? I use the internal mail client, no Nokia Messaging. Any hints on this?
What do you guys use to get push IMAP on your iPhone (probably via an Exchange service)?Does anyone have any experience with NuevaSync.com?Anyone use anything different?
I've recently got a BlackBerry Bold 9780, I am used to have smartphones with my company email all the time, changes I do in my desktop/server I want them in my smartphone and viceversa, we don't use M$ Outlook in the company, we have IMAP accounts. This is, maybe, the most basic feature of a smartphone but until now it seems that BlackBerry just has a 1-way email synchronization, changes that you do in your desktop/server do not reflect in your BlackBerry, if this is true the only thing I will miss wil be the BB messenger.
I use my BB for Hotmail and some personal email accounts. The person email accounts download the email to my BB, and then I can reply. But for some reason, after a short time (few hours or so), any emails I had and kept, have gone. Does IMAP check the web server and if they aren't there anymore either, it just clears them and 'syncs' it with my BB?? How do I stop that from happening, so I keep emails on my phone whether or not they are gone from the web server?
After initial setup, I'm able to receive SOME, but not all, e-mails on my BB Curve 8530. The others not received on my BB DO appear in Outlook 2007. I can't seem to identify any difference between those e-mails I receive on the BB and those I don't. On the recommendation of my web hosting company, I'm using their IMAP server. POP3 remains an option too. I have completed the registration and reconciliation processes. I've consulted with my web hosting company, and with both Verizon Wireless and RIM;
I set up my 2 business email accounts with IMAP, everything worked fine for about 2 weeks, then my default account would not consistently download emails, so I could see them on my laptop inbox but nothing on the phone, then the IMAP sync function on the default account would not work from my laptop to S6, it would work the other way, so i can delete or move emails into my various folders via mt S6 but not via my laptop.
The strange thing is that he secondary email account works fine, receives email fine, IMAP works and syncs fine all working good. So I decided 2 days ago to delete both email accounts and set up again, everything worked fine but today its back to the original status of my default account not syncing from my desktop/laptop. The settings for both email accounts are the same.
The phone is primarily used for business and i get over 200 emails a day.
I just got an iPhone and am trying to set up my Yahoo email account. I've tried multiple times and failed. The error message I'm receiving is "The IMAP server '[url].." is not responding. Check your network connection and that you entered the correct information in the "Incoming Mail Server Field".
I didn't have to enter any info for the incoming mail server (nor is there an option for it). Also, my phone's WiFi is working so I'm not sure what the problem is.
