I lost the " i" on the keyboard. Instead of the i I have some kind of |, i.e. a small vertical stripe without a point on top. This makes searches in the address book impossible (whenever I am looking for something with the " i" included).
The capital letter I is not a problem. I downloaded recently the app " Compass Pro" . Could this be a reason?
Just got my torch last night! yayyy! I did read in one of the threads there is a way to bring the virtual keyboard down by swiping up and down (I think). But when I do that, I always open the manage connections option. Can someone explain how to get it to show wo opening the physical keyboard?

After installing a couple of games(Duke nukem 3d and Abuse) and I think one of these probably crashed, it got left in US keyboard mode (I think). I see that there is a new file created called /home/user/int_kb_layout that has string "us" inside it. Just deleting this file and restarting the phone does not help. Searching around I find that perhaps some tool called /usr/bin/gconftool-2 might need to be used, but I got more confused. Therefore I might ask in general how one can get back their default keyboard maps for their N900?

I used to have the keyboard lock function assigned to the left side convenience key. This was really essentail for me to have and now it is not available for me to assign when I try to assign something for the left side convenience key. I know the Tour has the option on the top of the phone to lock it but even when this is pushed, it will still unlock in my bag. How can I restore this option?

View 1 Replies View Relatedyesterday my bbtorch screen went blank and the error 606 message appeared, I solved (I THOUGHT I did) that problem by running a firmware update, the message disappeared but now that my phone is working I see that the keyboard nor any other physical key is working. When I slide it open the screen lights up and if it is on its side the image rotates so I think the device still recognizes the keyboard but I don't understand why it won't work, I'm currently running version 7.1.0.1149.

I found out after several trials (don't ask me how many) that if I slided open and closed 2 times and then I press twice the "alt" button the keyboard starts working. The screen went black, or The screen got mirrored. but everything still worked when The keyboard was not sliced open. Yesterday, my bb just went black when i opened The keyboard and this time, the screen stayed black. I think there is something wrong with the software on the chip that controles the visual for the screen. Because even when i had mirrored view, it still responded on the touchscreen, but the things you saw just didnt match with What you touched. What can I do? View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a problem with the Auto Keyboard when I'm on a site that wants you to type in your email. I get an email type keyboard that has a DOT on the space bar for email. I have reported this so many times. What happens is the @ sign is on the first page of the key board as well as the .com, the DOT is on the space bar so it doesn't function as a space bar, but the problem is when you try to enter a DOT off the space bar it will not print it. I have reported this and was told the next update to the OS would fix this. Well the last OS update v7.1.0.580 is the last update and it is still the same. Can't RIM send out a small add on to fix just this? What I have to do is use the .com key and then back space to the DOT and then type in the rest of my email. Example: jcjones@satx.rr.com so I have to type it jcjones@satx.com backspace out the com,leaving the . type in the rr and then push the .com key. What a hassel why can't this be addressed? Oh and the email in this post is not mine, I made it up, so it may belong to someone or not. There is no way to do a screen grab or anything like that to attach a pic because the keyboard is on top of everything on the screen.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have been keeping recommending iPhone 4 to my girlfriend, who is going to get her Master degree from Columbia Univ and step into business world. And she said, "wow, it looks wonderful but too naive/childish for me".
And then I bought her the iPod Touch, just for casual use. (I would make Torch a great surprise since she always wants a Blackberry. Samsung sucks btw, we have had 3 Samsung phones and they are all crap - hardware-wise).
I love iPhone, but I could not live without a keyboard phone. Sorry Droid and iPhone fanboys, touchscreen just sucks for business users/ users mainly do texing and little cell-photo-taking.
If you are not a college boy, and you are a real businessman, I bet you would be as busy as me so 40% of your time is for emails/texting/notepad/calendar, 30% for phone calls, 20% or less for web browsing, and 10% for enjoying music when driving (or on subways while reading newspapers) and other multimedia functions.
And seriously, I only use my phone to take pictures of notes on whiteboard or product labels when I don't have a camera at hand. And if you really like taking photos, DSLR would do you good.
Do you really need a 800x600 display for texting?phone calls?. And how much do you rely on web browsing by cell phone? It's just for checking some information when you are outside.
Let's see what Torch does best from all kinds of reviews: Gizmo, Engadget, BGR, Crackberry....
1). Top notch keyboard - good for 40% of time texting/emails/notepad/calendar
2). Great call quality - good for another 30% of time, and no drop calls/death grips
3). WebKit Browser - enough for 20% of time web browsing - after all we all own laptops (you don't have one?)
4). Improved media experience - I am ok with just listening to music. I seldom watch videos on handheld devices - only nerds do it often.
Hence, the bottom line: is there any other good keyboard phone out there? (with a touch screen and not as ugly/huge as Droid)?
=) CPU is fine, Screen resolution is fine (I am really ok with texting and managing my business life with Bold's screen resolution).
After all, do you really spend 80% of your time on cell phone while you have friends and can do all the things on a computer?
I was using the full on screen keyboard and actually getting use to it, lot's of mistakes made but I was still going with the flow. I read a post yesterday that suggested switching to the Reduced Keyboard.
It made all the difference, I type a million times faster!!!! No need for the slider keyboard.I recommend to everyone out there, at least give it a shot and see the difference if you aren't already doing it.
