BB Storm2 9550/9520 :: Got My Replacement Today / Back Button Sometimes Not Work
Mar 12, 2010
I got the storm 2 like 2 weeks ago and I loved it only problems were the back button wouldn't work like 40% of the time and my send button rarely worked. Well after reading that they were replacing them free I went to a verizon store today and of course when I took it in all the buttons worked. Well the guy still offered to exchange it for me. the whole thing took less than a half hour and he gave me a new battery just for the **** of it and the replacement is soo much better! All the buttons work and overall typing is soo much better on it now. I didn't think it would go that smoothly but so far I have had verizon almost 2 years and I have had great service with them since the start. Now I looked at the box and there was no green dot on it or anything and I haven't looked at the date under the battery yet cuz I have been using the phone alot and right now im listening to music but all the buttons work great and the back button dosent click like its on crack everytime I click it.

Has anybody's S2 been running some sort of update today. Since 9:30 Pacific I noticed my phone is doing some sort of communication. I tried to Google Sync and it told me it was unable while the BB was updating. It didn't say what it was doing though. Anyway, the communication arrow over the status bar has been pointing away all day today. So much so that my battery as gone from 80% to 30% with minimal use on my part. I turned it off once (power off icon) and back on and the arrow resumed.I do not know of any way to check what the device is doing, but thought I would check with you all to find out if you notice it too. Something from RIM possibly?

The fist time I didn't get a green dot a good date or a good number as far as I could tell. This time I got the green dot, but the dates are all in 2009. I have been looking for the 3 digit number in the red circle. Can you please tell me were to find these. I a have been up for 20 hours and I have steam coming out my ears at Verizon. I am not going to bother transerfering if it isn't the new phone. They are both refurbished.

Got my new 9550 couple of days back. First day to work, it popped out of my "bold holster" and fell. Now I got a cracked digitizer, LCD works perfectly fine. Went to eBay and got a replacement digitizer. Before I open up the phone, got a couple of quick questions:
1. Do I need to solder the digitizer to the LCD or just plug the cable in?
2. The double sided tape that attaches the Digitizer to the LCD, is that the normal thickness tape (say the one we get in Staples) or something thinner? If you know a brand that fits perfectly, it would be a great help.

Managed to drop my Storm 2 and cracked the screen. All working OK, but bits of glass falling off was about to order a new LCD and noticed there seem to be two versions - version 2 and version 3. Any ideas on how I know which version I should order, or doesn't it matter?

The date in the battery area is 26210 or something like that. According to other threads after the 2e2nd of February the screen should have been the new hardware. My Storm still has the depressed upper left corner and a workout of a screen press; I don't understand this. I'm replacing my last storm (which did have the new screen) because of service randomly completely dropping to zero bars until I dropped the call I was on, then going back to full service. So, I guess my question is why do I have a new date stamp with old hardware (even had the green dot on the box).

I hope someone can please help me! My new Storm 2 worked perfectly until it fell into a swimming pool. I got a replacement and it works good except when I go online. Things will look quite normal, then randomly there will be symbols strewn in-between and throughout words and sentences. It's very frustrating when I'm trying to look up information for work because I can't read it.

Just got my S2 replacement and upgraded to .428 before I even did the swap devices with the DM, and now this phone is set up just like my last one with all the same apps and it is absolutely killing the battery. I dont know what it could be, I have went through and checked the obvious to make sure it was all good( brightness, 1XEV only, no apps running in the background or updating, wifi off etc). I've lost 10% in less than 20 mins after a full charge. Maybe delete all the apps and reload them one by one again?

I will be getting a replacement Storm 2 in the mail on Wednesday(VZW store was out and had to order one). I have a problem with the headphone jack thinking there are headphones in it when they are not sometimes.I was wondering what I need to do leading up to and once I get my replacement? I have used the Desktop Manager Backup program to backup my files. That should take care of my calender, memo, contacts, SMS and any files and stuff on my device....but what about apps. That is what I'm unsure about. How well do those transfer since they have licenses/registration codes?I have bought DynoStorm, Fingerprint Scanner, PatternLock, WeatherBug Elite from App World. From what I have read all I need to do is start App World on my new device and those apps will load on the new device from App World without a problem? Is this true?I have bought BerryBuzz, Call Blocker Pro, Meter Berry, Mileage Meter, QuickLaunch and SmrtGuard(1 Year Subscription) from MobiHand. From what it looks like I can use the Change Device ID and it will generate new codes for me on my new device? Is this all I have to do? Can anybody verify this or tell me what I do need to do for these apps?I have other free apps but those I can just download again. The last thing I'm curious how it will transfer or if it will be a problem is my one theme I have bough Halycon from Elecite. How do I get that loaded onto my new device? If there is anything I'm forgetting to do with backups or apps or anything else I should do before or when I have the replacement let me know. I would greatly appreciate it.

First I would like to say hello to my fellow berry folks. This is my first post on this site. I was a regular on blackberryforums.com but I see there is a greater following on crackberry, so I'll share my story here......
I have AT&T for my carrier and I was up for an phone upgrade. A few months ago I purchased a brand new 9550 (had the Pearl2 before that and the original Pearl before that!) that was unlocked and I loved it!!! Since this was a Verizon phone, I could not use AT&T's 3G network so I decided to go with the "next best thing", the Iphone. Well, 24 hours later I was returning the phone back to the story. I was unimpressed. Here are the reasons why, though they may seem petty, was enough for me to give it back.........
1. No LED status indicator. I didn't realize how much I actually depended on this. For example, if you get a text or better yet miss a text, you MUST push the home button to turn the screen on to see if you received a text or not. With the Blackberry, a quick glance at the status indicator LED would let you know that. This will never be capiable with any current Iphone as they do not have any such "bulb". There are apps that can "flash" the screen but I can imagine that would play a big part in the battery life. I've read on a few Iphone forums that the users wish they had an LED indicator, while other said that it would be annoying to have this feature. But as annoying as it may be, it is an OPTION with the Blackberry.
2. No sound profiles. Well, it actually has two. Silent, which you only have the option to change vibrate to on/off. The other option is just a general option where you can change the loudness on the ring via a slider. There is a Sound Profile app that'll cost you about $7.
3. You cannot use any apps outside the Apple App store unless you "jailbreak" it. Jailbreaking will void your warranty. We all already know Blackberry is open to all outside apps.
4. Home screen does not "flip" when turned to landscape. May be an app for that.
5. Scary to think what happens to this phone when the battery actually dies, since you can't replace it (not a reason to totally ditch the phone but worth noting).
A few things that were pretty sweet on the Iphone........
1. Safari. Very nice and extremely user friendly. Was very fast but I don't have anything to compare it with since my Blackberry could not use the 3G network. Hopefully RIMs new browser will be up to par.
2. A trillion apps..........Nuff said........It'll be quite awhile for Blackberry to catch up in that department. But my guess it that 95% of Apples apps are pretty useless.
3. No clicking. This is bitter/sweet for me. For typing, clicking is a MUST for me and I missed it dearly. But for larger "depressions" like icons and such where mistakes are minimal due to the fact of the larger area to push on, a simple tap on the screen was very nice. I wish a "tap not click" was an option on the Blackberry, as I would be tapping icons and clicking text.

I know a thousand and one people have complained about this, and I've been scouring the internet for an hour and a half reading stories. My Blackberry Storm2 (bought yesterday) has that issue with the buttons (green call button and red end call button, at the bottom) where they just don't click properly. Sometimes it does, most of the time it's either a bunch of little clicks when pressed or it doesn't recognize at all until you press it twice or more.
Aside from that, the phone appears to work just fine, and the bottom button issue is just irritating for now.I just want to know, is it worth it to go return it for this problem? Is it going to get worse with time? I don't want to go exchange for another phone that's going to be worse off or just has the same problem, which has happened to so many people.
Does anyone have this issue with their Blackberry and have kept it with the problem and it's hanging in there just fine? Is this phone even going to MAKE IT for 1-2 years?! Anyone have positive durability stories?

Since RIM is sending out updated 9550 hardware (BlackBerry Storm2 Screen Improved-Verizon Wireless Returning Current Stock | BerryScoop) i went in to talk to the local VZW store and they confirmed that i could trade my current S2 on .320 with bottom button issues for a new unit. i will be going to pick it up tomorrow, and immediately installing .428 but what is the best way to back up ALL of the info on my current S2 before trading it in? i am talking contacts, profiles, apps, themes, etc. before the flames begin, i have searched/read many threads on this topic but they are always instructions for very old versions of DM and OS/hardware.

I'm running .428 and my storm and I know there are lots of threads on the button issue. Mine all stopped working Friday after a dip in the ocean. Next day the bottom 4 started working again but the power/lock still does not work. It clicks but nothing else. And the keyboard is so soft. Oh and about 5 auto shut offs. I have to battery pull just to start it again.

If my curve 8900 is any indication, the dedicated buttons at the top wear out and start getting unresponsive pretty quick. I'm afraid if the lock button on the Storm2 wears out, I won't be able to unlock it (with the curve I could use the keyboard * + green call button to unlock). Is there an application or similar that allows me to unlock the screen by an alternative method?
