I have used a Mio Mitac which had a GPS based on SirfStartIII chipset. The point is this is a true GPS that shall work even if I am not on any carrier / have not inserted any SIM card. With such a GPS there are no data charges.Want to know if the GPS on 9530 fixes its location via GPS satellites or with data connection / network towers.

All 3rd party apps (google maps, gmail, Facebook 1.6, opera, etc...), text messages, phone calls, and browsing on BB's native browser work with no problems when using the data connection. About an hour or so later, all the 3rd party apps have data connection failures yet text messages, phone calls, and browsing on BB's native browser still work fine. If I pull the battery the 3rd party apps will still work fine using the data connection until about an hour or so later and it stops again (requiring another battery pull).

I take the train from Baltimore to DC every day, and w/my OG Droid, never had problems, even if one or two location only seemed to have 1x available. With my Bionic, however, I am frequently dropping my data connection completely (moreso than it seems when I bought the phone in September -- not 100% sure since I wasn't paying close attention to it those first couple weeks).For the heck of it, I thought I report it on twitter and see what kind of response I would get from @VZWSupport. (I always get better Comcast support from their twitter folks than from my local office).Got a response (see attached graphic).They told me to enable data roaming. Really? Anybody had success with that? I'm worried about running up a huge bill.
View 6 Replies View RelatedMy N97 has US AT&T 3g radio frequencies. I have a T-mobile sim card with unlimited data and an AT&T card with very limited data.With an AT&T sim card the N97 talks to the AT&T USA towers at "3.5G" speeds no problem. Beauty!But when I put my T-mobile sim card in it it will only connect to T-mobile towers. It sees that there is a T-mobile tower and an ATT tower no problem but it will only talk to the tmo tower.
If there is no T-mo tower it will connect to the ATT tower but it will not be at 3G just edge.I have tried to enter the apn settings manually but i am tripping up somewhere.Called T-mo and tier 3 tech support said that she could see no reason why it should not work. I pressed to find out if T-mo provisioned their sims to work at 3G soeeds ONLY on t-mo towers but she said that that was not the case.
N97 user manual mentions apn alterations being contingent on a PIN2 number coming off the sim card, but that did not sound tright to t-mo support.
Am i missing a very obvious thing like a switch called "turn on data roaming" ? My Nexus1 has that.
I am having some very irritating issues with connecting my Blackberry Storm to my HP laptop and custom built PC. Both computers are running Win 7. Both computers have Blackberry Desktop Manager on them. Both computer's USB ports are fully functional, been tested by other devices including my old Blackberry Curve 8330. Mass storage mode is on. Here is what is happening: Nothing. When I plug in the micro USB into the Storm and the USB into the laptop/pc, nothing happens on the computer end. No notification that a USB device has been plugged in, no device connected in BBDM. The Storm, however, goes into charging mode. So the USB port works on the phone, because it charges, but NOTHING happens on the computer, no "ding" sound plays like when other USB devices connect, no window activity, nothing.Here is what I've tried:
A battery pull.Restarting the computers.Putting Mass Storage on Auto-Detect.Using an older verson of DM, then reinstalled the one I got from Verizon Wireless' website. Downloaded drivers for BB Storm (I may not have done this correctly, as I am not sure which ones to download) The USB cable I'm using is a "universal" one, with the cord itself being a mini-usb connector, with a micro-usb adapter, that I just bought from Best Buy today. Like I said before, the phone does go into charge mode when this is connected, so the cord itself should be fine. I'm really baffled on this. I've searched the internet over and over, and found nothing. If anyone has ANY idea on what to do, please let me know. And if no one has any idea, can I be pointed in the right direction on contacting someone that does? I really need to be able to connect my Storm to my laptop for tethering purposes.
My browser and email stopped working about 3 days ago and I spent almost a whole day on the phone with support, no help. They had me do everything including delete all my service books and now there is nothing in the host routing table. They finally said, we cant help. My phone is stuck on lower case edge and I cant get data.

Everything is working, like calls, SMS, GPRS, MMS but BIS can't tbe activated.When I try to go on my operator's webpage to register my phone, I get this message:Cannot create account: Your BlackBerry® Internet Service Account is suspended or deactivated. View 4 Replies View RelatedI am a customer of Verizon Wireless in the USA and have recently had a brand new phone sent to me. I live in Canada so I have to manually activate my phone. I have no problems doing the manual activation to allow me to make and receive calls. However, I cannot register my phone to get my data usage set up. After hours of troubleshooting over the phone with Verizon, they've some up with the conclusion that I have to be in the US, and on the Verizon network to register the phone. I have always been on the global data plan. So, basically right now I'm with a smartphone that has zero smartphone capabilities. is another way to get this phone activated.

View 4 Replies View RelatedA Verizon Storm2 I bought used from a Vz customer who switched to an Android. Sold me the phone without the Vz sim in it, I didn't know I needed it. Got an unlock code and tried to enter ir with the T-mo sim in it, says no valid sim card.Always comes up with "do you want to enter MEP unlock code" after pulling battery, but when I press yes nothing happens. This is with the original Vz sim installed which I realized I did need to enter the unlock code.Going to the sim screen shows "no valid sim card" so I can't get to the MEP2 screen to enter the unlock code, this is with the original Vz sim installed.I want to use this on T-mo but am willing to register it on Vz long enough to unlock it, but even Vz says it's blocked.I really need a clue.
View 5 Replies View Relatedmy screen stopped working so I went into verizon and they replaced my phone (9530). I went home and it was working great, when I went to plug it into my computer I got a WSOD that said MTP error and restarted the phone. I tried on two different computers at home both with desktop manager on them but both of them cause this error and restart as soon as i plug it in so im not able to update the os, backup, restore, or do anything via my computer. I went back into verizon today and switched out phones again, luckily I took my laptop in with me to test it out. This phone is doing the same thing. We plugged it into the computer at verizon and hooked it up to desktop manager and it worked fine.

View 12 Replies View RelatedI just bought an unlocked storm2 free and clear - no contract (upgraded from Curve with no data plan). I have continuous wi-fi as my internet company provides me with unlimited wi-fi access wherever I go in the US so my plan is to access my e-mail thru wi-fi.
Is pop3 e-mail set up possible without BES, BIS or data plan? Is there a 3rd party e-mail apllication available for blackberry, much like for pc where you can configure a 3rd party software (i.e., ms outlook, ms express, etc.) for your e-mail.
Right now the only way I can check my e-mail is by logging into the internet via wi-fi and going to my internet provider's web site. That is a hassle though as I have to go thru several steps before I can actually check my e-mails.
One second I'm texting my friend. Next second I get a white screen that says JVM Error. I restart the phone, and EVERY ******* THING IS GONE. CONTACTS, CALANDER APPOINTMENTS, MEMOS, GONE. Why? This phone...This phone is a piece of JUNK. I've had it for over a year now. This..over 100 contacts I have to get b ack. This is fantastic.

I found a fix to always get an EDGE and did it. it worked the first time and was fine for a few months but then it stopped working so I did it again. When I did my phone stopped having any data service. There are no entries in the host routing table..Ive reregistered my device a million times and its not working. Ive been on the phone with tmobile (they are no help) I read all the post about this but nothing has fixed it.

I installed my backup to reinstall my contacts but I now have no browser and the instructions of register now from the Advance options does not work!!! It stays blank. My phone is working with calls and text but no Internet? It was working fine prior to OS update. How do I get my Internet back and my Browser?
I see all these great post for those on At&T and Verizon, but no one is listing any info to those users that are not paying 100.00 + bucks a month! Im in California and am using Cricket paying only 45.00 per month with unlimited text, calls, and internet. I paid $75.00 for the BB 9530 and $30.00 to flash. I surely dont want to pay another 30.00 to re-flash the phone just to get the internet back that was working fine prior to OS upgrade.
I went to the Verizon place a couple of days ago to see if they could get my phone to stop freezing and running slow. Well they accidentally deleted over half my pictures and my phone is the only place I have those pictures. Well luckily, I thought, I have a backup file and my pictures will be on there. But whenever I try to run it I get the error "data not recognized by desktop!" Some of these pictures are really really important to me and I want them back. Is there anything I can do to make the backup file work? Will it even contain the pictures? I have a blackberry storm and the verizon place said I have the most updated software.

If I go from Desktop to Email, the Icons go gray and time elapses before they turn "Blue Again", If I try to access email, I get a warning, "No Data Connection or The Password to your ISP is not valid.

It seems like I hear of quite a few people in my area having this problem. Verizon pushed a hybrid PRL to my phone and the PRL version went from 15098 to 13014. Am I going to just have to wait till they actually send someone to fix a local tower or is this something nation wide?

I called Verizon Tech Support and they just ended up giving me a brand new Storm 2 for free! All I had to do was re-sign my contract for another two years. Gonna miss my Storm 1 but the Storm 2 is sweet! Just got it today. Anyone wanting to upgrade, try using that excuse.
