I updated my BB 9700 to v 5.0.0.545 (Platform 5.1.0.140) and subsequently pressing on the "mute" button no longer turns on/off "standby mode.
I tried the mute button during a phone call and that works fine. So I don't think the issue is hardware. Plus it was all fine before the device update.

The device does not wake up from stand by on even after pressing the home or power buttons continuously.
Every time I had to to soft reset by pressing Vol down + Power.
I was suspecting Greenify might do this since it hibernates apps on screen off. But now I have removed greenify from the device manager. Still I am facing this issue.
Haven't rooted or modded it (yet). Usual apps installed and some themes from the theme store. The battery is around at 83%. The caller can hear my phone ringing but i don't get any notifications or vibrations or sound.
I recently got a S6 and copied my S5 onto it. I haven't switched yet as I enjoy my S5 because of the screen, replaceable battery and SD slot. So I'm only playing around with the S6 at home.
I didn't use it for a day after charging it full and was very surprised when it started beeping about the battery after only 33 hours.
I have a iPhone 6 that I use only at home for different things I need iOS for and I get at least 72 hours out of that one.
Does it sound like normal battery use? No SIM only WiFi.
What is the practical standby time of this phone running v51? (I'm not patient enough to test it myself so if anyone has tried this please let me know.)

Because I use a Mac I plug it into the desktop software and it should offer me the chance to update to version 6. It doesn't. Using BB5 1022 at the moment.
I just got my blackberry a few weeks ago, and it was working perfect up until I downloaded BlackBerry Desktop Manager, plugged my handset in and updated it.... It operates much slower. There's a good 5-15 second delay when trying to access the menu, and it will freeze while I'm trying to answer incoming calls. Also my alarm clock doesn't work anymore. There's no sound coming out when it goes off, the volume is set to high, but it will still ring when someone calls me. It was working prior to the update, and I didn't change any settings after. Is there a way to roll back the update. I thought updates were supposed to fix problems and issues, not create them.
ps it is a BlackBerry 9000 carried by Rogers, O/S version 4.6.0.303
upon updating i notice that the "key lock" key and the "standy key" located on top of the phone is not functioning anymore. Unfortunately the phone does not go onto standby mode when pressing the mute key. The mute key does however mute a telephone conversation.
View 9 Replies View RelatedOne of the very handy features on my E63 was the ability to begin entering a contact name when at the standby screen, and a list of matching choices would pop up as I entered the letters. I could then select from the list using the D-pad and make a call, send a message, etc.That function seems to have stopped working, and I can't tell the reason why. Unless I didn't notice the elimination of the feature months ago when I installed the latest firmware (don't think that's the case here), this doesn't appear to be the result of a firmware update, new software install, etc.Any suggestions out there, shy of the royal pain of doing a reset and having to reinstall software and reconfigure/recustomize my phone? View 9 Replies View RelatedHere's the results of my 5.0 OS upgrade using the recently released Sprint package:
1. Phone boot time, from battery out to usable (home screen icons displayed, etc): 3 minutes, 15 seconds! YES!!!
2. Threaded SMS messaging is nice!
3. Phone doesn't feel any "faster".
4. Being able to set the phone to automatically adjust for time zones is nice--I don't recall that being an option before and has always bugged me.
5. QuickPull Free didn't work at first. Had to be uninstalled and reinstalled.
6. Standby button no longer putting phone into standby.Still works for mute/unmute though.
Of all of these, item #6 is the only one that bugs me a bit.I think the standby operation still works in general, as when I put it into the holster, the screen did turn off, but I don't use the holster and usually "lock" the phone by holding down the mute button to go into standby.
So, does anyone know if the Lock button does pretty much the same thing as Standby, or is there really a big savings in battery life by going into standby mode? As long as battery life isn't too adversely affected, I'm pretty sure that I'll stick with this release. Hopefully the next OS upgrade will restore the button... unless someone here knows how to fix the issue now!
I updated my OS on my 8900 to the latest version yesterday 5.0.0.681 Most of it looks the same, however I used to use the lock ley (top left ) on my handset, to password lock my unit before putting it in my pocket. Now I find this only put the unit into and out of standby. Does anyone know why this has been changed? Can it be changed back? I am really angry that this usefull feature has been removed without the ability to customise my handset and put it on.Why could it not have been an option to change what this key does? From a quick search on Google I see lots of other people have the same problem, and some are even paying to download aps to fix the problem!! For now I have changed my side convience key to activate the password lock, so all I have to do is keep remembering to press side button instead of top button. I cant even find anywhere that I can contact RIM about this, and request they reinstate the lock key. Very disapointed with the way this has been handled and the lack of support / advice / comment from RIM.

After upgrading the software on my BB, the SMS & MMS took all of my messages and put them into one long conversation that I can't delete.All new text messages appear in that conversation, and I can't delete them either. The title of the conversation is the name of sender of the first message, and it names all new messages as that person, even if it isn't them.
Also the graphics keep glitching when I scroll through the opened conversation. And sometimes the enter button won't even work to allow me to send sms in reply.I don't text all that often, but my coworkers want to contact me via sms, and this is just driving me insane.

I have a blackberry 8520 also and I am finding it impossible to update. I currently have v4.6.1.314 and my friends have been able to update their version to 5.0 with the same smartphone. It says there are no updates available when I put it in the computer or do it manually through me phone.

View 2 Replies View RelatedOk, I've got an early model 3GS serial from week 23.I originally jailbroke it using purplera1n on its original 3.0 firmware. I didn't bother doing any of the updates since then, since everything was working pretty well. As a precaution I have stored my hashed keys with Cydia.
Now there are starting to be newer apps that require firmware 3.1 so I figured I would update.I've read through a few tutorials and it isn't 100% clear what update path I should go. I have tried Pwnage tool on my Macbook and it doesn't seem to detect my phone to put into DFU mode. I have a few questions hopefully someone here can answer:
1) Should I even be using Pwnage tool? Or should I be using blackra1n? Does it matter?
2) With Pwnage tool, when it asks if my phone has been 'pwned' before, should I answer yes or no? When I answer no, it doesn't detect my phone. When I answer yes, it tells me to put the phone into DFU mode myself and reestore using iTunes. Is this safe to do?
I'd like to update to iOS5.1 but devise says I need 1Gb? What can I dump to be able to upgrade?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI just got a brand new N900. I wonder whether wifi is broken - I cannot see any access points when I click on "Internet Connections". (There are about 5-10 in my neighbourhood and I have my own wireless router.) Also, if I go to "Setting" -> "Connectivity" -> "Internet Connections" and then try to setup a new connection and scan for "available wi-fi networks" it doesn't find any. Even if I enter the setting by "hand" (i.e., my SSID etc.) I cannot connect, nor does it show the connection as available.Does anyone have an idea how I can find out whether that's a hardware problem?
View 21 Replies View RelatedUgh...my storm 'died' yesterday, and i got my replacement phone today. in the course of trying to download and install app world to get all my old apps back, i ran into a problem. there seems to be a problem with the url or download link, something. i get a bland 'error' when i attempt to input my email address to have the link emailed to me. when i try to click on the download button, i get taken to a page that tells me "You have attempted to access a software download page that does not exist. Please check the URL and try again".just to be sure i wasn't going blind, i checked on other computers with other browsers; same thing. i called my provider (Verizon) who verified my problem and told me this was on BB's side.
