BB Curve :: Can The 8350i Be Used As A WiFi Only Device Without Carrier Activation
Sep 30, 2011
Can the 8350i be used as a WiFi only device without carrier activation? I of course know that it would not receive any BB specific services but I would want to be able to browse the Internet and use apps that can use WiFi directly.
I'm going on 3 days, and about 20 hours trying to unlock this phone.. The only thing I could find was a 15 chapter essay on how to do it but the guy who wrote it obviously skipped a lot of things and uses all kinds of nerd lingo like "YOUR YOUR BBDM?I am wondering if their was any unlock versions written for people who dont have a degree in celluar phone prgramming
I just want to add my thoughts on how frustrated I am with this device. Although this was my first blackberry I like the overall thought and function of the device and refuse to let this crap device alter my opinon of other blackberry devices. I tried and tried to talk to sprint/nextel to replace my device with another model since they refuse to update and support the 8350i. But you and I both know I didnt get anywhere. I have recent reverted my os back to the .204. Does anyone else have any input on how to further advance my preformance of the device?
I am trying to help a friend that has a 8350i from nextel Brazil. The problem is I can't get the sprint software to instal on it. I've even erased the entire operating system from it and used the BB desktop software to upload sprint's os, but it won't allow me. It only lets me restore up to the os nextel Brazil uses. He has a US Nextel sim card in it with the everything data plan. Phone and direct connect works fine but no data or email setup options.
Sprint store was of no help, they really can't do much since the serial number is from nextel Brazil. I guess my question would be, is there a way to bypass the bb desktop software to allow the installation of US nextel OS? or is it possible if he calls costumer service and get them to register the bb pin in his account he'll be able to set up email and data?
i just recieved my blackberry charger pod to finnally turn on my blackberry.. but the computer dosent read my phone at all it charges yes but cant reconqnize it at all and my usb conection on my blackberry does not work thats the reason y i got a charger pod so my phone only charges with the pod.. if not it does not work .. what can i do for my computer to read my phone ..
I've read around the forums and elsewhere but haven't found a solution yet Have an 8350i and with the Mobile network off (Nextel) I turn on wifi (both at home and at work) and it connects to the network, icon is white not gray Data service is on and was working before (had the phone for 9 months). I recently connected to desktop manager for the first time and updated all available programs, firmwares, etc, I'm assuming this is the root of the problem. Gmail and Facebook apps won't connect, (you need a working data connection bla bla) and same with Browser app.Any solution that doesn't involve downgrading, wiping clean? (I've pulled the battery, turned wifi on and off with no results)
i have an 8350i and so does my friend. MOST of my icons are white and work fine. his are colored and also work fine. how can i get my icons to be colored?
Now that Boost will be legitimately offering a BB, the 8330, is it worth getting rid of the 8350i? I NEVER use DC, and is gaining the 3g speeds worth losing wifi over? Are there any other details I left out that would be a dividing factor?
I have tried to down load an app from bb appeared and this message appears on bold 9780 "The Item is not available for your Device Model, Device OS, Carrier and Country combination"
I have searched this entire forum and can't find an answer. I have a Droid from my company and I LOVE IT! My wife has a BBerry. I want to get another line for a part time small business I have. I definitely want a BBerry and I realize I will have to pay a monthly data rate from someone for my email needs. Will not need many monthly voice minutes as my usage will be mainly data-email. Verizon is carrier for wifes BBerry.
I have an activated iphone and I want to know if I ever accidentally restore it to factory setting (pressing unlock/lock button + home button) can I restore it to my backup without the need of a carrier sim? The iphone is carrier lock in other country and I have no carrier sim.
I have a phone that is locked for AT&T carrier, and I want to unlock it to be used in an Indian carrier. Will upgrading the OS of device using OS from an Indian Carrier do the trick? Or I have to get unlocking codes from AT&T or some other media to unlock the phone?
I had a BB 8900 Curve which i replaced yesterday with a Bold 9000 and now cannot register the device on the carrier network. Calls etc are fine, just BIS will not. My previous 8900 worked fine? I have been on the phone with the carrier the entire day and they have not been able to resolve it. All i did was change the device in the BIS website and now it is broken.
I'm contacting you today because I meet problems in connecting my blackberry to BIS with my home Wifi.I have seen on most other site that the french carrier SFR isn't able to solve this issue for us.
I have a strange problem since yesterday. Out of the blue my 9700 (5.0.0.442, free device, Vodafone Germany) can no longer connect to the Internet. The connection to the BIS, however, is still there. It lacks only the right service books. Vodafone said that I should do a software update -> so I installed 5.0.0.536. But the problem persists. The Vodafone-BlackBerry support is then determined that posting the service books hang in a "queue" and can not be delivered. They created a new BIS account for testing, even there the problem exists. My carrier says I have to replace the 9700. But I don't think, that this is a hardware problem. Sounds more like a software problem to me, because some service books still arrive:
Wi-Fi TCP / IP Browser Wi-Fi TCP / IP Transport Save Self VPL D2 WAP 2.0 Wap Push Config Vodafone DE MMS transport Provisioning
Akkupulls, resending service books, wiping and new firmware install brought no improvement. I just despair. Every data connection with no BIS requirement works. (e.g. weather apps)
I have a rooted Galaxy S5 running stock 4.4.2 KitKat. I want to remove the carrier name from the lock screen (not the status bar). I downloaded Wanam Xposed and while several of the features in it worked, hide carrier was not one of them that did. How I can hide or remove the carrier name on the lock screen?
I have a strange Issue with my phone Xperia X10. When I use the Internet through the Carrier (3G) for several minutes, and the battery is less then (~80%) the phone simply turns off unexpectedly for no reason. If I then try to turn on the phone it will immidiatly shut down again so quickly I dont even have time to unlock it.
I can use the phone fine, Including connecting to the Internet through WIFI, and I will not have the issue. I can also use the 3G Internet fine until I get to about 80% battery, then the phone will turn off. If I disable the Internet connection through the carrier before I get to 80% I can continue using the phone without problems and even browse the Internet through WIFI. If I connect to the 3G Internet with my battery on less the 80% the phone will Immediately shut down.
I tried doing a full reset and reinstall through the SE PC companion, but it didnt help. I also tried installing a custom ROM and chose Wolfs TW Gingerbread but it didnt help and I still have the exact same issue.
I've had this issue before with Windows Phones where I ordered an HTC Titan from AT&T and it wouldn't allow me to use Wifi Hotspots even though I have it enabled on my Rogers account.
Does anyone know or can test it the new Windows Phones have the same issue? I'm interested in ordering a Cyan Lumia 920 from USA and unlocking it, but don't want to do this if Wifi tethering is locked to AT&T.
I have a Lumia 710 (Rogers branded) with the latest updates. There appears to be no wifi hotspot options in the settings, I assume this has been disabled by Rogers. Is there anyway for me to get this enabled?
Are there any known issues with activating iMessage via wifi in airplane mode?
Staying at a hotel outside the country my plan is in. Hotel has great wifi, so I've been iMessaging a lot. It stopped working last night, so I did what I normally do when this happens: turned iMessages off and then back on. But now it's stuck on "waiting for activation."
Restarted, did the DNS trick, let it sit for 8 hours. Still "waiting," no activation error message.
I even tried turning airplane mode off, but oddly, I can't connect to a cell network, despite being in a major city.
When I try to activate my FaceTime, I get an error msg that says, "An error occurred during activation. Try again." I have a good password (I used it to get here...); I'm on WiFi; I've toggled FT off and back on again but I cannot get past the error message and get activated.
The message is 'this is a wi fi only service'.I have set up as 'wifi preferred' and that is fine in the office or at home, but outside wifi areas the berry will not connect to the internet and gives that error message.
I just bought a BB Curve 8350i off Ebay (yay me). I was starting to wonder what OS it's using? Is it using the same OS that the storm uses, or is it the old OS that looks like some thing that's way behind times?
I am with orange and I have 500MB data per month. When I try and use the mobile network internet it says 'This is a WiFi service. Please ensure your device has an active wifi connection and try again'. Why is this? Also, when i try to update to 5.0 it says I need a data package but it worked on my old phone. And because of this I can't download the app world. The signal goes to SOS a lot as well but I think my house blocks the signal. Currently it says 'gprs' with 2 bars beside it.
Does the Blackberry Curve 8350i have SMS and MMS capabilties? I already ordered this phone from Sprint today. After ordering it i read a article that stated that it doesnt do sms or mms messages. Is this true?
My friend has been wanting to get an 8350i for a while now. Today he walked into RadioShack and BestBuy and both of these retail stores told him that the Nextel 8350i Blackberry had been discontinued. That they no longer carried them in their stores, but that that he could still find them at Sprint locations. They stated the reason as having too many issues. I'm thinking that the retail stores were getting too many returns and possibly decided to stop selling them ("discontinuing them"). I went to sprint website and they are still selling them.
