View 1 RepliesI am in West Africa for a while and have a UK network which has worked fine. I upgraded my software when i connected to the device manager and installed. Since then i have been unable to get any emails. I usually use my WI-FI connection, which is till working but i cant get onto FaceBook or emails it just says no data connection available. I can send text messages and make calls but no emails!! its drove me mad so i reverted back to the old version from my Data backup and installed that, thinking this would help, but it still hasn't. I have never had this problem before. I tried to take out the battery and chip but nothing. (not sure what i was version i was updating but the phone says V5.0.0.592) if that means anything!! Thanks in advance to those clever people!

View 5 Replies View RelatedSo, unfortunate circumstances for a first post here. I'm afraid my WiFi chip is dead and hoping someone can help me realize it's not.I have a Curve 9300, purchased back in April with the fabulous OS 5 on it. My husband and I bought matching phones.
Historically, I've had some WiFi issues here at my house, which could be traced back to a crappy D-Link router. Devices were being "kicked off" the network when more than two were trying to use it (xBox, phone, laptop, etc) It always seemed like my phone had the most trouble staying connected here, but it would always acknowledge that the network was there (it would show up in the list of networks most of the time), and if I went to OTHER houses or public WiFi Hot Spots, I could connect without a problem. About a week ago I upgraded to OS6 (if I had paid better attention to my software update checkboxes, I wouldn't have done it, man I hate OS6) and ever since then, my Curve won't even acknowledge the EXISTENCE of my WiFi network, even after I re-entered all the network information manually. Thinking it was our (straight-from-hell) router, I bought a new Linksys model and set it up... same problem! Since then I have tried changing every setting, manually entering network data repeatedly, even connecting with the WiFi Protected Setup button, and it's just not working. My husband's Curve, meanwhile, is connecting just fine.
I was connecting my Curve to my laptop to back up my data. During this process it wanted me to upgrade my desktop program and my handheld OS. Once I was finished with the backup and the upgrades and was able to disconnect, I had to rearrange my icons. During this process I noticed that all my SMS messages were not labled with a sender but just the phone number. Noticing this I quickly checked my contacts and there was about 50 out of 250 contacts listed. I have tried to restore from the back and this resulted in even less people listed in my contacts!

View 9 Replies View RelatedAfter the last update, I noticed that a lot of SMS items that I had been keeping deliberately were lost and only the latest ones remained. I have two questions: 1- Is there a way I can retrieve them? 2- Why the people who designed the update take the liberty to delete messages without warning?

The phone was insured but since the contract was canceled they won't honor it. Is there anyway he can retrieve his contacts in the Desktop Manager? He backed it up all of the time Is the contacts in a file on the computer that he can read? thanks in advance. I looked in the loader back up IPD files and all I see is a lot of jibberish. But no contacts.

Simple and stupid questions:
1. If the WiFi is enabled, does it mean if I surf the internet any downloading of the pages or surfing does not count towards my data plan usage? Is that correct?
2. There is a golf application (I'm sure there are many) that allows my device to be used as a GPS distance device for golf. It uses the GPS of my device. Is it true that if the app is designed so that my device uses the satellite GPS system vs the cell tower GPS, that there will be no data usage (other than the downloading of the app itself and golf course itself - not major drain of data usage).
I bought a BlackBerry Curve for $10 online through the AT&T website. I ONLY need a phone for phone calls and text messaging. When I called to activate my new SIM card they charged me for a Data Plan ($30 monthly). I learned that I could turn off the Data Usage on the phone itself so that the network does not recognize my phone as a Smartphone and incur Data usage charges. I then called AT&T back to cancel the Data Plan. This was not easy and I insisted that I was using my old Motorola Razor again; otherwise they would not reverse the Data Plan charges.
Since then, my phone has not been able to send or receive any SMS text messages. I also get no error messages whatsoever. This feature had previously worked. Now it doesn't. When I send a text message, it appears to have gone through, but my text recipient indicates otherwise. I also tried to send a text message with my mom's Nokia, but with MY SIM card in it and vise versa; and neither options worked as well.
What is going on? I have been on many forums and can't figure this out. I'm guessing that this is a carrier issue; however, because I got the Data Plan reversed and was adamant about not using a BlackBerry, I can't exactly call them to complain.
How can I view my data in my bb?When I connect my bb to my PC via USB cable, it used to ask me to if I would like to view media storage or something.I think I said no and it doesnt allow me to view anymore. Can someone help me enable this again?
View 5 Replies View Relatedi have just got my bb back from being repaired and when i got it back it was once again locked to another carrier. i have unlocked it with the MEP code which the carrier provided and am now running the phone with an O2 uk sim.Im not sure if the above is relavent but since ive been using the phone this time around none of the internet or data services will work. i have a data plan on my contract (unlimited) but when i try to connect to the internet via the browser i get the following error message 'Error encountered during XML parse: End tag does not match start tag 'head'. ' also when i try to use windows live messenger i get an error message saying service not enabled for this handheld !?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI've never been able to use blackberry maps, as I don't have a data plan, and my 8900 is blocked from all data usage aside from wifi. Blackberry maps just never loads the maps, which is understandable. I'm on rogers by the way. So I've installed 5.0 recently, and I loaded up blackberry maps while I was fooling around, and it started downloading the maps and such. No matter what I have done, this has NEVER worked in the past. I don't have any gps capabilities, but the maps are downloading. What happened here? I've used 5.0 before, and this hasn't worked. And I don't have a data plan still.
One oddity is the maps load extremely strange (random pieces missing in the middle), and the application itself is glitchy. It will freeze when I zoom in or pan around occasionally, and its really unusable. I'm using the latest officially released 5.0, 461 I believe.
i found out i didnt have the blackberry data plan, and my cost was going up for the internet, so i phoned orange up, and now i should have unlimited internet, i made sure it worked for blackberry, i get unlimited internet for an extra 5 pound. it was only 24 hours ago that i did this, but i have no signs of it comming through yet, do you know anyway to check to see if its came through, or if there's something i have to do to activate it?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm hoping someone can help me with something. I'm having an issue with constant data transfer and I wanna know what it is. I know the upload and download arrows flash every once in a while when changing areas around town but I have a lot of up and down data transfer and its draining my battery. I deleted all my apps and I am using just a plain precision zen theme and wiped my phone and started fresh but its still happening. It seems to stop a little when I turn of WiFi and GPS and it completely stops when I turn off all radio services. If I do this my battery will last all day but if I turn everything back on my battery will be dead in about 3 hours.
I'm running 5.0.0.592 on my T-MO 8900 .Is there a way to tell what's sending info so much? Is there an app out there that can tell me what's sending?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a BlackBerry Tour on a local CDMA carrier. They recently posted the download that allowed me to upgrade from OS 4.7 to 5.0.0.624. The upgrade appeared to go smoothly and I am back in business with OS 5. The only (BIG) issue is that I have lost the ability to tether. I used to be able to tether via bluetooth with Windows DUN using #777. Now when I attempt to connect I get:Error 678: The remove computer did not respond
I am able to connect to the phone via bluetooth and Sync via BB DM. I can also query the bluetooth modem via control panel.Any suggestions? Has my ISP finally cut off tethering? Is it an OS issue? The only option that I can see is to downgrade back to OS 4.7 unless anyone has any suggestions.
When I open iTunes on my computer (Windows 7) the tones are in my library. I attempt to click back up to this computer from my iPhone summary and click "apply" and it reverts back to sync to iCloud. How do I get my tones back?

I upgraded my iPhone 4 from iOS4 to iOS5.1 last night while connected to iTunes. My contacts list became empty when the phone came back on.
I already tried to retrieve the contacts through the following methods:Open a recent Text Message, tap "Contact" and edit.Turn off and on icloud.Import from SIM.Reset the phone and re-sync.Restore from backup. All previous backups from iOS4 are inaccessible.I do not have the contacts list backed up on Windows/Outlook/Google/etc. I was naive to put my trust in Apple.
The contacts are not on icloud.com either.
This is utterly ridiculous. There was no warning about losing contacts. I followed the directions on iTunes and on the phone. My phone is NOT jailbroken. It's Apple hardware and Apple software, I do not see how this happened other than because of a fault on Apple's part. After months of complaints from consumers, there was no warning or fix to this problem that has been well known to Apple. I already wasted more than 4 hours trying to find a way to get the contacts list back to no avail.
Is there a way to get my contacts back or are they lost forever?

I upgraded my ios5.0.1 to the latest ios5.1 and since the upgrade I no longer have a ring tone alert for incoming calls although they are set to a default ring tone that comes with the phone. I can go to settings-> sounds-> and slide the sounds and alert volume bar and hear the ring tone. I also lost the keyboard and lock clicks.
