I am brand new to Blackberry - just got a Curve 8530. Playing with it, I found that two of the included "smiley" images for SMS text messages are switched - the emoticon view does not match the graphic & "name" of the picture. The items that are switched are "Straight Face" and "Whew". Is there a way to fix them - so I know which is actually sending within the message?

View 10 Replies View RelatedI have a Nokia 5530 XpressMusic that is 3 months old And I've had no problems with it until recently.It has come to my attention that When I send smiley faces or winks such as ^___^ or ^___~, the ^ and ~ signs do not show up to whomever i send the text message to and only the underscore ___ is seen by the reciever. In my inbox it shows those symbols but in the reciever's inbox it's just an underscore. I'm not sure if that happens to other characters since i mainly use those two.I update the software/firmware (I'm not familiar with the terminology) frequently. So I'm not sure if this problem is just the phone that I recieved or if not all phones could recieve the ^ /~ sign (i doubt it though).

View 4 Replies View RelatedI am unable to open text messages.I can see them arrive and read the first line in the message list, but cannot open them.I have tried all the options that are offered on the little dot dot dot key, and get the same result.I also took out the battery and rebooted the thing.It worked the first day I had my 8530, but now it doesn't.

Seems like to me it's flashing 2 longer flashes then 2 small one straight away. Continuously repeats this with 20/30 seconds between each. I have tried plugging it into my laptop but is not connected.

And orange customer services are near enough useless and have told me to ask here about this problem.Also sometimes the cursor moves and no text is written while typing.I have un-installed the application and re-installed it with no help and performed about 10 hand held wipes.Please can someone give me the solution to this problem before I take a hammer to this phone.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI hv got blackberry 8520 phone...i hv an issue with deleting the sms from the inbox..whenever i delete the sms...al d messages under tht thread gets deleted but it does not disappear from the inbox..n wen i try to open this "deleted" msg...it doesnt open neither it gets deleted although the msg content gets deleted...
also on few occassion der r multiple instances of the same msg thread...for eg..if i receive msg frm Mr. X

I have got a 8520 BlackBerry, completely new to these things! I have a little envolope with a number at the top of my screen, when i click on the star envolopes in the menu, there are no emails showing. I have set it up as I was told, but still can not recieve my emails. When I first used the Blackberry, I could recieve emails, I use hotmail and it says I have messages but I can't find them, or get to them.

View 8 Replies View RelatedSo I bought the 8530 from Verizon yesterday. I am having a ton of problems with text messaging, mostly in my house.First, I do have full service in my house Wifi is turned off and I haven't modified any connections or settings to effect this.
I will get the red X that messages aren't sent, then "retries exceeded", "mobile equipment status failed", . I also get odd error messages."SMS error 7, message id 32 general problems".I have no idea, and neither did google about that error message.
cau you use predictive text on a blackberry and if so how do you enable it?

How can I fix this? It is extremely frustrating to clean 30 emails at my desk only to find them all still on my BB when I hit the road.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a blackberry 8530smokey violet, my carrier is Verizon. I'm having trouble receiving and sending any type of message(bbm/email/text) while on a phone call. When I hang up ALL my message come pouring in (I guess I should be happy they come in at all). Initially all the messages came in silently so I adjusted it so that I would be notified when a message comes in. I've since removed it but I still have the problem. Any advice?
Also while at work I changed the ringing to silent but all my messages cause my phone to make noise, I assumed when I made the phone silent I assumed all messages/phone calls would be silenced. Was I incorrect?
I'm trying to set up my ringtones. I set up my custom ringtones and I pressed the "try it" button after each ringtone and it worked. However, when I get a text, e-mail or an alert from facebook, twitter, etc. I don't hear the ringtone, instead I head the standard little beep. Is there a way to fix this?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI've had my curve for a few months with no problems until tonight. I hadn't backed my phones info up for a couple of months so I thought I would do it earlier on today. I back everything up fine on my computer but the blackberry software crashed when it was trying to restore the info from my phone { I don't know why it was trying to restore everything cause I've never done that before.} so I tried to reinstall my backup onto my phone and it seemed to work. I switched my phone back on it was working, I tried to go onto facebook and I got "A connection cannot be established to the Facebook server." so I uninstalled the facebook app and waited for the phone to reset and reload. it took ages and about 3 battery removals to get the phone to load up to the password screen, and when it did get passed that, the phone wont let me click on my text message or email shortcut. I switched the phone off and saw a white screen with an error number of app err 523. My phone has been fine since I bought it until tonight.
