I have a Bold 9700 with Tethering activated and it works fine with a USB cable to my laptop or Bluetooth tethered to my Playbook.know of a device that I can attach to the Bold 9700 that would utilize the Tethering feature as a MIFI Hot Spot. Could be either cable or Bluetooth, doesn't matter.
I know the Xoom can be used as a hotspot but do you know if we can switch the SIM with one of the Verizon hotspots. Mostly, I just don't want to kill the battery on my Xoom when I'm using it as a hotspot for my PC when mobile.
I just picked up a MiFi 4G device and I carry it at all times. However since it has a cap on data per month I want it to be secondary to several other unlimited WiFi networks such as my office WiFi, home WiFi, free WiFi hotspots, etc. Is there any work around to make the MiFi wireless (or any permanent wireless network) 2nd to all other recognized networks? This is the ideal set-up for my iPhone 4 and iPad 2 WiFi. I don't want to have to turn the MiFi on and off constantly, I want it on in the background as a seamless secondary option. I appreciate any insight and find it odd that you cannot prioritize networks. Meaning if I "forgot this network" and start over will the 1st joined or most recent joined become primary when there are multiple networks available?
I was always using on other phones with Android 2.2 FroYo that 3G mobile hotspot feature, which was included right in the Android system under Wireless Networks settings. Now in Defy there is no option like that under settings in FroYo. Defy includes own app called 3G Mobile Hotspot, which should work like that option for creating mobile WiFi hotspots in other Android phones. But here is the problem. On my older phone with Android 2.2 I could create 3G WiFi hotspot wherever I needed and it worked. But now, with Defy, when I use that application 3G Mobile Hotspot, it writes me error when creating WiFi hotspot "Cannot set up data link, please contact your service provider" I suppose it is something with my carrier (Vodafone_CZ), but when I used 3G WiFi hotspots on older phones (which had that feature included right in Android settings menu) it worked without problems and I a used mobile phone for 3G internet sharing with my laptop. Now I remember, that I have deleted some DUN profile under APN Internet profiles, could it be that problem, that 3G Mobile Hotspot app is not working?how to create WiFi hotspot on my Defy for example with some other app?Or if not, how can I use Internet Tethering in Defy Mobile Networks menu via Bluetooth (my laptot has BT). I dont know, what should I set in my laptot to use Defy like BT 3G Internet provider and I dont know, if Internet Tetherig via BT is not charged at my carrier (I know, that the 3G WiFi hotspot feature was not extra charged..) so for that reason I would like to make it working on my Defy.

I have the iPhone 4 3G and also have a Kindle Touch. Can I set the phone to do a portable hotspot so I can use my Kindle without having to go to a Wi-Fi hotspot place?
I have a bold 9900 that runs OS 7.1 and has the hotspot feature. how to set a different APN for the hotspot feature.I tried going into phone settings and changed the APN under the TCP/IP section. But that doesn't work. Still connecting through the standard APN (btw I've got no idea which one it is) and for what I'm being charged 5 euros a day each time I connect.
I have a Bold 9000. Its unlocked I was told its a international version since it dosnt say ATT or t-mobile at the bottom of the phone. Well it only has the hotspot browser. And when I go to options >browser configuration> browser it only has one browser which is the hotspot browser. Theres no other browser there. Is there anything I can do to add the other browsers? Because I don't want to just have wi-fi alone because not every where you go has wi-fi. Can any one help me or tell me what I should do?
I'm on 3 and my hotspot was working fine yesterday I pod was connected , but today it won't let anything connect? It lets me connect to my partners hotspot on htc . Just this bb won't work it picks it up but won't connect?
I used BB Bold 9900 with Leaked OS 7.1.0.402 (B1333), BIS data & Wireless connections. When I configure Mobile Hotspot on my BB, I always got the message "Cannot start mobile hotspot due to a temporary network problem. how can I setup & configure my mobile hotspot on my device?
I have a second hand blackberry bold 900. When I go on to the browser it only brings up "hotspot browser" . I have tried to change the settings but there are no other options in the menu. Perhaps the other owner had restricitons. Should I reload my blackberry with software or what else can I do?
I have recently upgraded to the official RIM release of 7.1 from [URL] which means that I'm running 7.1 .0.205. With this I get the Mobile Hotspot functionality, finally! I've configured the APN username and password requested, and created a 16 charactor password for the hotspot itself. I've verified these are correct. Now, whenever I try to enable the Mobile Hotspot, I get a pop up error message that states:"The mobile data network that your device is connected to does not support this feature" with the title "Mobile HotSpot".To complicate matters, I am currently abroad, and hence roaming away from my home network. However, I can confirm that I am able to access the internet on the built in browser and can send and receive emails on the blackberry itself.
On another note, I thought that maybe the problem may be incorrect APN settings, so I tried to access the 'Mobile HotSpot' settings in order to update this, and I get a very unhelpful message that says:'Before Opening Mobile HotSpot Options, go to Manage Connections and turn on Mobile Hotspot'Clearly, I can't do that, so am pretty much stuck. I found that wiping the device allows me to re enter the credentials, and these still do not work. I even tried to add in the APN details of the network that I am roaming onto, and still no luck.

ive got a blackberry bold 9900, that has mobile hotspot, i connect my iPad to the mobile hotspot which is great, however, orange charge me £1 a day to do this, I know a £1 a day seems pennies, but over a month it can add up, is there any other way of connecting?
Desktop mgr 5.0.1.37.When I connect (via USB) the connection appears to be recognised - clock appears on BB and PC beeps. After a few minutes PC & BB icons appear on BB screen but no interconnecting arrows. When I try to sync there is no device and PIN number showing on Device Mgr so it doesn't sync. Then the Desktop Mgr greys out and appears to freeze - I then have to disconnect the BB to unfreeze.
Device manager shows two RIM virtual serial ports v2 Com 3 & Com 4. If I try to update the drivers it says most up to date are loaded although the drivers are dated 24 Nov 2008 and are version 2.2.0.3 and appear to be called RimSerial_AMD64.sys (I'm using Intel i7 processor).
Devices & Printers screen shows a RIM Composite Device icon. Windows in Win 7 Home Premium 64 bit.
I can't switch back to my "WAP 2.0 Browser(CSL)" anymore. I did a battery pull, and after that when it switched but when I tried to load a page it said "This is a wifi service".I have the service books:
I'm running 7.1 on BB 9900 using the O2 (UK) network. Until very recently I'd been successfully using the Mobile Hotspot feature with no problem at all (ipad, laptop etc. - ironically not working with the Playbook but that's another story). In the last week or so I am suddenly no longer even able to switch it on the feature. If I try and select the checkbox box next to Mobile Hotspot I see the spinning wheel (the green circle one sees whenever one first checks any of the network connection boxes), which then just disappears. Any ideas? I'm hoping to avoid the usual Kafkaesque - speak to your operator vs. speak to RIM scenario.
I can't seem to enable the WiFi Hotspot function on my 9900 on the Bell Mobility network.
I am on BB OS 7.1.0 Bundle 921. When I go to Manage Connections, the Mobile Network is checked and shows Bell; the Wi-Fi is enabled and shows my router. When I enable "Mobile Hotspot" I am asked to "Create a WPA2 Personal passphrase for others to connect to your device. 8-62 characters". I type in a valid string, scroll down, and click OK. I then go to my iPod Touch, select my BB and enter the password. I get "Unable to join the network"..
When I selected "Mobile Hotspot" in Manage Connections, it allowed me to set up a password. When I now select if, a tick appears in the box and other devices can 'see' my WPA protected Hotspot, but I get a message showing on the screen saying: "Activation Required. Click Continue to subscribe to a Mobile Hotspot data plan using the browser on your smartphone or on a connected Wi-Fi device". The only option is "OK" (not Continue). If I select OK, then I go back to the Manage Connections screen, with no tick in the Mobile Hotspot box. I am on an Orange UK voice and data plan (orange internet APN).
When I try to change the Default Browser Configuration I didn't find any browser except Hotspot Browser.my operator still doesn't have the BlackBerry feature and I need to use the internet in my 9700 blackberry but alwayes it opens in the Wi Fi connection.
I have tried to down load an app from bb appeared and this message appears on bold 9780 "The Item is not available for your Device Model, Device OS, Carrier and Country combination"

At this point I am at a loss for a next step in troubleshooting.
I am having a problem downloading media onto my blackberry bold 9780. I have successfuly installed the CD that comes with the blackberry and the USB cable goes in fine to my blackberry. But then in the last step, it asks for my blackberry password. I believed this to be the 4 digit pin I use to lock my phone, but this failed. I tried other passwords that I use for other various things but it didn't work, and it wiped everything off my phone. After contacting my service provider (o2) they suggested I try changing my 4 digit pin because this is definitely the password it requires. I changed it, but again it didn't work. I was wondering if someone could tell me which password the blackberry needs so I can start putting music onto my blackberry?
