View 1 RepliesI will be going on vacation and to avoid the ridiculous roaming data charges, was wondering how I can connect to BIS over wifi? I have a BB data plan with my carrier (Rogers). I just want to be able to receive e-mails and use BBM when I'm connected via wifi while I'm away. I'm guessing that if I set "Data Services" to On and "While Roaming" to Off, under Mobile Network Options, this would NOT work, correct? Or am I mistaken?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm going abroad and would like help with trying to stop my BB from syncing with my email accounts while I'm away. I've asked around and all people can say is to delete the email accounts from my phone and then set them up again on my return. Is there another way of stopping them from syncing up and getting the emails downloaded?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am going on holiday next week and this will be the first time I'm taking the phone with me (except in Switzerland where it remained in flight mode throughout). I want to ensure I don't get hit with any charges on my return.
I will be using the WiFi functionality as the hotel is WiFi enabled and I will be receiving/sending texts and phone calls. However, I do not want, under any circumstances, my phone to connect to the internet using the network as the fees are astronomical. How can I ensure that the phone only ever connects via WiFi?
how I can get my iMessage and Facetime working again? I have an iPhone 4S with it on airplane mode and wireless on. It was working fine and then like magic, it says "waiting for activation". I am studying abroad in England and it goes in and out.
View 1 Replies View Relatedi am planning on unlocking a bold 9700 for use abroad in spain with a vodafone sim card. i understand the unlocking process, but my question is whether or not the phone, which is going to be unlocked from at&t, will have full 3g functionality on vodafone's network in europe. i have heard that phones will work in europe when unlocked, but not necessarily with european 3g if they have previously been locked to at&t.
View 14 Replies View RelatedLast year my Verizon 9930 and this year my wife's ATT 9900 stopped working after a few days of use overseas. Under both circumstances the phones were perfectly fine for the first few days after which the keyboards became unresponsive (delayed response, not being able to unlock, reboots). Battery pulls did not change anything. Interestingly you could see the email count going up so the phones were connecting. 24 hours after retuning to the US both phones worked as if nothing happened.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am currently on holiday in Thailand and some of the trip involves me travelling alone. Since I have been here I have no signal and cannot receive/make texts/calls. I was told by friends to turn off roaming when away in order to stop emails, facebook updates and the like coming through on my phone and therefore resulting in a large bill. I emailed my network provider Vodafone but they have responded by saying in order to receive/make texts/calls I have to have roaming switched on?! Is there any way of enabling texts/calls without having constant emails and facebook updates etc coming through? I don't understand why so many people would use Blackberry if you can't switch off these things and just use phone as standard like you can on all other makes of phone to my knowledge.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am currently abroad in Austria and I am trying to set up internet on my blackberry bold. I have already bought a sim card with Orange AT and paid for an internet plan. However, I still can't get internet on my phone. Data services are on and the sim card is active. My phone is not locked.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI pay £40 for unlimited texts and internet and have 900 minutes, the price of my blackberry bolt-on is included in that price.I'm going on holiday next week, was wondering if using my bbm while abroad would mean extra roaming charges when I come back. I rang 02 and they '50/50' om it.Wondering if anyone can help?
Has anyone used bbm while abroad? Did your network charge extra?Nobody seems to have a solid answer,Also whats the alternative if you are charged? Will bbm still work if i use a local sim card while on holiday?
im currently ou of country with data service off while roaming.. and was using bbm and email vis wifi but after updating the device software the bbm and email are no longer connected to wifi while whatsapp and facebook and all other apps are working normally
View 1 Replies View RelatedI can browse internet over WiFi while roaming with my data services set to "On" , "off while roaming" but I have been unable to access email. I was told that this is the way blackberries work - that you must turn on data while roaming and pay the charges if you want to access email. My old Curve didn't work that way so I find it hard to believe that my Bold 9900 does work that way. With my old Curve I simply had to connect to WiFi and voila my emails would come through without adjusting any other settings?
View 4 Replies View RelatedSuddently, BBM and Email stopped working on Wifi. However, internet browsing on Wifi works fine!I tried resstarting it and also removing the battery and placing it again. Problem still persists.I tried opening the settings and clicking on email setup, I got a message that said: cannot connect to server! What server is it talking about? RIM server?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am new here, so thanks for any help. Great Community. I read already a few posts but couldn't find a solution. I want to check my gmail emails through my Bold 9700. Currently I don't want to sign up for a Data plan. I want to use my Wifi connection in the office or at home in order to get my emails. I don't need push function but I don't want to go through the webpage and log in. I just want to press any button and receive my emails on request.
Is there any way to get my emails? My friend has a iphone and he can choose between manual email receiving with wifi or push with data plan.
I understand the process to disable data services and therby stop emails. How can I stop email without disabling internet 3G Wifi access? (If at all)It is a work phone so I have no BIS access.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI know im gonna get the bb 9100 if it ever releases.... but heres my quandry(sp?)? Since this is the first bb with wifi, when i move my sim card from the 9000 to the 9100 is there any way to use bis (push) email on the phone via wifi and keep the 9100(will be BIS) for just playing/going out with?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI acquired in Hong Kong the BB Bold 9700. I was told it is not a locked phone, and that I should be able to use it where I live. Indeed, as a phone, it is not locked, and I can do all phone functionality. However the following functions are not available and I wonder how to fix it: When I try to set email accounts, it only lets me the option to set enterprise server based email accounts; it does not let me the option to set Internet based personal accounts as appear in the manual I am also unable to use the device over WIFI networks; I can register them, connect and set them, but the actual browsing over the connection is not possible.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI want to know whether the Nokia 2730 will work abroad? Because I'm going to Corsica (South France) in about a month and I will need to be able to use the internet as well as text and make phone calls. Also does it depend on the Network Provider?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI am based in the UK, and my UK Blackberry has a BIS account with a UK carrier. I will shortly be travelling abroad and would like to use a local simcard with my Blackberry, and create a new BIS with the local carrier of the country where I will be travelling. The reason for this is because my UK carrier charges a high cost for data services abroad.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have the Verizon iPhone 4s. i didn't have the passcode to my phone so i had to wipe it, then restore it from a previous backup. So far everything has carried through alright but I'm [inevitably] having problems with the phone activating. The phone knows its phone number but it won't roam because it hasn't been successfully activated under verizons networks. I am going to be in the UK for quite a while. The phone isn't able to connect to verizon towers from here, and it continues to say "searching..." and "no service" in the corner but it knows its not in america because the overseas carrier option has appeared in the settings? is there anything i can do? could i call verizon and they acti vate the phone from there?

View 4 Replies View Relatedfrom Belgium, traveling in the States - using the 5800 XpressMusic. I'm unable to get a right network (to make phonecalls and text). Doesn't matter if I use the Dual Mode, UMTS or GSM. When I manually search, it gives me 2 options; AT&T and T-Mobile. When I request either one of them it tells me that I don't have access. What am I doing wrong? Is there a setting I'm missing?Settings > Connectivity > Network > Network unavailable. I'd like to see it changed. GPS and wifi are working fine.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI just spent an hour speaking with AT&T "Customer Service" and was appalled that they will neither waive early termination fees ("ETFs") nor unlock iPhones for customers moving to foreign countries. Although they have never been willing to unlock iPhones, they used to waive ETFs until a discreet policy change around January 2010. If you make the company whole for their iPhone subsidy by paying an ETF, how is it fair to leave you with a locked device that is useless outside AT&T's network?
Does anybody have tips for getting around this? They will not even let you switch to a prepaid plan or suspend your account for more than 6 months if you want to keep your phone number. The only option is to transfer your contract liability to someone else who is willing to accept it, which is an unlikely and generally useless option.
