May 11, 2010I want to be able to only lock my blackberry by pressing the top left lock button and not unlock it when i press it again. This is extremely annoying. Can anyone help me?

Aug 2, 2010When I press the LOCK button on the top left of the phone, the phone locks (as expected). When I press the button again to unlock, nothing happens it's as if the button is not working. When I press the green 'Make Call' button I get the following message: 'Keypad is locked. Press the Lock button to unlock'. When I press the lock button (top left), nothing happens. The only way out of this is to take the battery out and re-boot.
This is getting quite annoying, as I now do not want to lock the phone.

Apr 30, 2010I recently updated my Blackberry 9700 and ever since it's not as it used to be. I used to press the top left to lock button to lock it. When I did this the screen would dim, but now when I press the shortcut key the screen goes black. Then if I press the shortcut key again it unlocks it straight away even though I have the password option on. Before, regardless of which ever key I pressed it would always ask for a password. Now, the only time it asks for the password is when I take it out of the holster. This is really annoying me.Is this something that i can change or do i have to do a restore??

Apr 10, 2010On my BB, when I press the lock button on the top left, the screen goes black and it locks. I'm sure I changed it to this at some point from something else however I don't know how or where etc. My friend's Blackberry (same Bold 9700) has a lock screen that shows a padlock to say it's locked but I don't get this? Any ideas? This lock screen displays her background image and a little padlock in the bottom corner etc.

Apr 13, 2010Whenever I tap the lock button located at the top of the handset, it seems to only invoke the lock mechanism to stop error entries or calls when in your pocket, it's not locking handset to a point where you require password? I know I can lock it via the bb key but that's tidious. Anyone else experiencing this or annoyed with it?

Feb 19, 2010I have just updated to the new OS platform 5.1.0.146, I don't know why really they have made this inconvenient option, the lock key, only locks the keyboard without Password Locking the device, more over it locks the device and dim the screen directly, which wasn't the same in older OS.Really RIM has screwed the functionality of this lock button big time.As a solution I have changed the function for the right button to Password Lock instead of voice dialing. But I really can't see any reason why RIM did that

Feb 11, 2010I can't stand how the bold 9700 has a screen lock button on top of it- on my old curve i set the side convenience button as the screen lock and to unlock the screen i had to hit two keys (since i didn't set a PW)... now all i have to do his hit the top button-- i've pocket dialed a bunch of people now just by accidentally pressing this button- is there any way to disable this top screen lock button?

Not sure if It was dropped and something happened but I remember being able to tap the top of the phone with ease, just like the mute button on the right side, now there is a very noticeable difference.Anybody having this issue? Jun 29, 2010I have a BB Bold 9700 and after I did a software upgrade ( to v5.0.0.743) my lock feature will not work. Previously, If i were to click the lock button at the top left, the phone would lock and would display my user information which I created. The top right button (mute key) would thus put the phone into standby mode. Now, when I click the top left (lock) button, the phone goes into standby, and when I click the top right (mute) button, nothing happens. I loved having my user information displayed when the phone was not in use. Does anyone know why this is happening and how I can get around it? I tried turning on the password (which I do not like using) and turning it off again as well as doing a battery pull.

Jun 14, 2010I read about the Alt+Enter to lock the phone and have the password instantly activate. But is there ANY way to have the Lock button on top of the 9700 to lock it and password protect it instantly? I know that with my 8900, the standby button does it instantly but there is no standby on the 9700.It just doesn't make sense to me why locking it from the home screen and the alt+enter would password protect it right away, but the lock button at the corner makes you wait.

Mar 30, 2010I'm trying to set my phone to go into lock mode after a period of time (like 5 min or something). I've only been able to auto-lock it with a password protection but I don't want to enter a password every time, I just want to hit the button on top to unlock it.
Also, I don't use a holster...I just throw it in my pocket. Most of the time I remember to lock it before I put it in my pocket but every time I don't, I end up calling someone. I read the other threads prior to posting and nothing.

May 12, 2010Today I was trying to lock my phone having installed the new OS (5.0.0.593) and when I press my functioning lock button (i.e. not physically broken) it puts the phone in standby, not locking it. I have a password and if I lock my phone that screen usually comes up. Whats the point if it doesn't lock? I've pressed the standby key and that doesn't lock it either. In a moment of desperation i assigned the left convenience key as a lock button, but I would love to have it at the top as normal.

T mobile told me that they could not repair the old one and therefore it was replaced with a new one - the keyboard and lock button has now stopped working on this some of the time meaning it can't be used as I cannot unlock it. Despite the fact that it was only brand new in January as the contract is over 2 years now they say there is no warranty on it but speak to Blackberry can't find any other way of doing this?
