BB Bold 9700 :: Miss Assigning Left-side Key To Lock Keyboard
Apr 6, 2010
So now with the new OSs, we can't lock our phones this way. I don't know WHY. Anyone else with me? My main question is this: Can somebody make a custom OS with the old OS files which allows you to lock the keyboard with the left-side convenience key? Or can we swap them ourselves? Can an OS guru chime in on this? I'd like my left-side keyboard lock back
It may sound trivial to some but one of my favorite BB functions was lost during the recent update and I can't seem to find how to restore it. I used to have the keyboard lock function assigned to the left side convenience key. This was really essentail for me to have and now it is not available for me to assign when I try to assign something for the left side convenience key. I know the Tour has the option on the top of the phone to lock it but even when this is pushed, it will still unlock in my bag. How can I restore this option?
On the left side of the phone (same side as the micro usb port), there is a small 1/8" hole or port towards the bottom - about an inch up from the bottom. Can anyone tell me what that is for?
The reason I ask is because the first case I was using had a cut-out specifically for that port. But now I just switched to a different skin which doesn't. And I didn't want to cover it up if it was important..
Is they way that when im in a call that i can press the left phone button to activate or de-activate the speaker phone? As i need a more convinient way of activating and de activating the speaker phone rather than pressing menu then scrolling down to the actiate option.
I want to be able to only lock my blackberry by pressing the top left lock button and not unlock it when i press it again. This is extremely annoying. Can anyone help me?
The top left lock button, unlocks in my pocket, what's the point in that?Is there any way it can be turned off, remapped, or at the very least have a warning that the phone is locked when pressed instead of completely unlocking the phone, like it does with the keypad?
When I press the LOCK button on the top left of the phone, the phone locks (as expected). When I press the button again to unlock, nothing happens it's as if the button is not working. When I press the green 'Make Call' button I get the following message: 'Keypad is locked. Press the Lock button to unlock'. When I press the lock button (top left), nothing happens. The only way out of this is to take the battery out and re-boot. This is getting quite annoying, as I now do not want to lock the phone.
I had the curve 8330 before this phone and i could set the phone lock to both right and left side convenience keys. there is no option on the tour. is there any way i can lock the phone from the convenience keys? thanks.
I recently updated my Blackberry 9700 and ever since it's not as it used to be. I used to press the top left to lock button to lock it. When I did this the screen would dim, but now when I press the shortcut key the screen goes black. Then if I press the shortcut key again it unlocks it straight away even though I have the password option on. Before, regardless of which ever key I pressed it would always ask for a password. Now, the only time it asks for the password is when I take it out of the holster. This is really annoying me.Is this something that i can change or do i have to do a restore??
Just updated my BB desk top manager with the update version 5.0..1. Now I am not able to use the left side convenience key button to lock the keyboard. Just curious to see if anyone else has had the problem and if so, how did you fix it.
On my BB, when I press the lock button on the top left, the screen goes black and it locks. I'm sure I changed it to this at some point from something else however I don't know how or where etc. My friend's Blackberry (same Bold 9700) has a lock screen that shows a padlock to say it's locked but I don't get this? Any ideas? This lock screen displays her background image and a little padlock in the bottom corner etc.
Since my last software update on my BB 9700 I can't lock my keyboard. Now I have v5.0.0.593 (Platform 5.1.0.147).The Icon "Lock keyboard" is not longer on the desktop and I can't find an alternate to lock my keyboard. Why? I want lock my keyboard. What can I do?
So my wife and I just picked up two new 9700s in white and black from T-Mobile with their buy-1-get-1 offer We're both already blackberry users. I was upgrading from a Pearl 8120, and she had a Curve 8320.After letting them charge for a while I finally fired them up to start playing with them.My first goal is to set them up as similar to our old phones as possible.
I checked the OS'es that shipped with each one and my black 9700 had 5.0.0.330 and hers had 5.0.0.586. So, I went to upgrade mine. But, while playing with some of the settings before upgrading I noticed that I was able to set my left convenience key to lock the keyboard on my 9700 but not on hers.In fact, the white 9700 that shipped with 5.0.0.586 didn't even have the lock keyboard icon in any of the menu screens at all.
I upgraded my OS to 5.0.0.586 and then went to check the left convenience key nothing.Went into settings and where it was previously set to Lock Keyboard, was now set to "Nothing".Is there no Lock Keyboard feature in OS 5.0.0.586? or am I seriously missing something?
I've had my phone for a couple of months now and it's been fine. The last software update caused the phone screen to go dark every time I turned on the keyboard lock, which is ok. But now often, but not always I can't get the phone to unlock again. I can activate the screen by pressing the Blackberry menu button but it just tells me the phone is locked. Pressing the keyboard lock/unlock button does nothing. I have to either disconnect the battery or connect the phone to a power supply to unlock it. Seems a bit strange to me.
I've searched the net and other forums for support and cannot find a solution to this problem. Essentially, on my Blackberry Bold 9700 I lost the ability to hit the K button to lock the keyboard. I have a BB 9700 running v5.0.0.714. I had not installed any new software at all before getting this problem. I didn't do anything differently other than launch the Kayak app. I updated the app and also removed it but still the K button does not work to lock the keyboard.
After searching the forums, I found a couple suggestions (which didn't work):
- Reset the theme didn't work but it did make the 'keyboard lock' icon come back to the home screen. The issue is that there is no under the K to make it so when I hit K it locks the screen. I even tried the default theme (it's a T-Mobile US branded 9700) and didn't work either. - Reinstall service books didn't work either didn't think there is a correlation here anyway. - Full restart, batter pull did this multiple times didn't work. - Update software all software apps and OS is up-to-date. I have fully uninstalled the kayak app just in case there was a correlation, still doesn't work.
I'd like to have a password certain times and not others. I hate having to put it in everytime but I want to set a password with my lock key so I choose when it's on and when it's off. Is their anyway to do this on a 9700. Thanks for the help
I have a Blackberry Bold 9700 which was replaced under warranty in January this year. T mobile told me that they could not repair the old one and therefore it was replaced with a new one - the keyboard and lock button has now stopped working on this some of the time meaning it can't be used as I cannot unlock it. Despite the fact that it was only brand new in January as the contract is over 2 years now they say there is no warranty on it but speak to Blackberry can't find any other way of doing this?
I lock my bb my pressing the top left keypad lock button but when I press it again to unlock it it won't unlock!! The only way to unlock is to take the battery out and put it back in! It only started doin this yesterday.
Just noticed my left side convenience key has stopped working, i have ensured it is still assingned to a shortcut (calculator) i have also taken the phone cover off and checked the button is working normally
Recently i bought a BB Bold 9700 and it was working just fine until one day a white stripe appeared on the left side of my screen. This didnt bother me so much. A couple of days later another stripe appeared; this was when i started to be worried. I looked for a solution online and i tried pressing on it and then clicking the "p" key, i've tried pulling the battery, and i've tried simply resetting it. I have never dropped this phone or gotten it wet. I did get a private screen for it and the stripe appeared after i got it so that might have something to do with it. Now there are 2 stripes most of the time but sometimes it switches to 1.
Right I have disabled dial from homescreen and I gone thru all the keys and not one of them opens up my sms inbox is there a way to assign it to a key not being used?
I recently updated my Blackberry 9700 and ever since it's not as it used to be. I used to press the top left to lock button to password enable lock it. This is really annoying me.The standby button (top right) doesnt do anything anymore, pressing and holding * button doesnt work to password lock the phone either.
Got a problem with my 5800 - just today, the touch screen has started being odd. It sometimes works perfectly but then i try and press a button on the left hand side of the screen and it chooses the one at the right-hand side. This obviously makes everything very difficult! Any ideas as to why this might be/how I could repair it? I've tried the touch screen calibration about 10 times, it sorts it out for about a minute.I can send it to Nokia to replace but I could really do without sending my phone away
