I am trying to make some sense out of the slow modem speeds I am getting on the 3G network. Below is a comparison between the different methods tried and the results. The SIM was transferred into a Sierra wireless card, then the speeds took off. All tests were tried at the same time of day, to the same servers, with IP header compression turned off for the BB connection, all on the 3G networks. I even tried a Rogers SIM for comparison where I could. Changing "modem speeds" on the link to the BB made no difference.
Normally I may just accept the differences, but I am looking to have about 25 users connect this way, to save on having a PCMCIA card or USB, as well as a separate data account. I have connected my notebook to the 9700 via Bluetooth and a USB 2.0 connection. My 9700 is connected to the Telus network, software version 5.0.0.442 (726)...
When I connect other BB, I can see in the DM that there is a 6th icon called IP modem to connect as a wireless internet IP modem, but how come in my 9700 I can't do that?
To take full advantage of a 4G network must the device be designed for a 4G network.most new 3G smartphones indicate 4G compatible but does that mean they will perform at 4G speeds? If the samrtphone must be 4G does anyone know when 4G devices will be released?
I keep hearing that you can use the Bold as modem for your desktop. The T Mobile said that I need to download the App but I don't know where to get it.
What is the easiest way to tether my berry to my laptop? I am a small business owner, and I often do work late at night in my truck, with no access to WiFi. I remember a long time ago seeing a thread on it, but I recall it being slightly complicated/using commant prompt.
I signed up for the teathering service today. Supposedly, I can hook the usb cable in my cpu and the BB will work as a modem in places that I don't have a wireless connection??? The At&t cust service said if I plugged it in the computer would walk me through. No such luck.. Any help for a non techee type user.
i want to connect my laptop to internet using my bb as a modem, i owe a 9700bolt and i downloaded blackberry deteskop menager and there should be a icon for it and its not there what should i do?
Can anyone help me? I am trying to tether my BB Bold 9700 to windows 7. I have unl data plan but not "tethering". My BB desktop software does not have the modem feature. Is there a way to do it? If so how?
I've benn triyng to connect with my bold 9700 (ATT carrier) using the bb desktop manager but there's no "IP Modem" icon for it. I'm using version 5.0.1.28 Nov 11 2009.
I unfortunately use Outlook as my contact manager. I would like to tether my bold to the laptop and use it as a modem dialer. Can do this with my Dell internal modem, but the company does not pay for long distance on my land line. Every thread I have read is always tethering for using to connect to the internet. I would imagine there are others who would like to do this.
I am having problem tethering my bold 9700 to my pc for use as a modem. I am on Tmobile service and am running Vista OS. I called Tmobile and was told that while they no longer support it, it could be done but that Tmobile would not provide me with directions to do so. Is there anyone out there that can give a technology challenged nerd like me step by step instructions to tether my 9700 to my pc with Windows vista. I have searched the forums and cannot find anything that fits what I need, instructions given are for other carriers than Tmobile and/or for Mac OS or Windows XP. I need info for Windows Vista OS, Tmobile carrier and 9700 blackberry. The blackberry desktop manager gives me the following error - unable to detect configured blackberry ip modem device. I have already verified that I do have a dial up modem and that it is working properly. Please help. I know that I can purchase TETHER and more than likely will but would like to learn to do this
I have a BB 9700 Bold. I was testing the data transfer speed of it using an app called "NetWorkSpeed" from the app store. No matter how fast my network connection was, it seemed like the Bold was capped at an average maximum speed of around 250 kbps, both uploads or downloads. This is using either a 3G connection, or my home Wi-Fi. My home Wi-Fi should be able to do 6000 kbps downloads, and 800 kbps uploads; but the Bold never got anywhere near those. Now this is a speed test only done to the device, not to a tethered computer or anything like that. A tethered computer seems to be able to transfer faster through the Bold than the Bold can transfer to itself. Is this a real limitation with the Bold, or is something else going on here?
BTW, I tethered my PC to my Bold, using the Bold as its modem, and I was able to get 1.9 Mbps/330 kbps with it. Not as fast as my home Wi-Fi, but respectable. But much, much faster than the Blackberry can transfer to itself.
a bold 9700 and it is unlocked but orig from rogers. i am using it on fido and i have called them many times in the past 2 days to fix the problem i am having. i stopped using the phone for a few months as i was using an acer liquid phone. now i am back using the bb bold for various reasons and all i seem to be having is problems. the phone works when i am at work no problem but when i am at home all it does is search for a network. fido has tried adding an imei number to my account settings and we reset the phone from my end. this still has not fixed my service loss i have been getting. what settings should i have on the phone to stop this from happening? one of the reasons i had started to use this phone again was the fact that for some reason i had waken up in the am to look at my acer phone and it had told me that i had no service. so i took out the battery and the sim card and put it back in the phone and still i got no service. i put the sim card in the bb and i got the same thing. so i put the sim card into a non smartphone celly that i got and it worked fine now why would this be?
hey guys as you can tell from the title that i got a foreign 9700 but it's not working on tmobile's 3g network! is there a way that can make it work on it ? and by the way I got a flexpay account on it.
My Wifi works fine at home(WEP protected router also), but when i enter the right WEP password to school's network, it gives "Failed to associate with the network message"? School's instruction for mobile devices to connect is simple, simply scan and connect with the case-sensitive WEP.I checked and checked and checked i have entered the right WEP, theres just no go.anyone else experieced this? how do I solve this?
I am receiving these emails (sometimes 20-30 a day). I have uninstalled and re installed the desktop manager using the BIS option. I also have referenced these forums and have checked advanced options to delete any service books the say 'desktop' (I didn't have anything that said this). What now?
I'm looking to buy the Bold 9700 on Orange basically due to the UMA feature. However, I have a couple of questions which I hope someone can help with
-regarding the branding/software - have Orange added loads of their own software i.e orange world icons etc? And do they cause phone to be compromised in any way compared to O2, Vodafone etc?
- how is Orange overall as a network for 3G coverage?
I had my Bold 9700 delivered from Saudi Arabia. I was absolutely in love with the phone with its incredible speed and my favorite thing about it was the 3G network. It worked absolutely great in Egypt. When I moved back to the US (Ive been here 3 days now), I can only use T-Mobiles EDGE network. If I search manually for networks, it finds AT&Ts 3G network, but I cant use it since Im T-Mobile and not AT&T. When I went to the T-Mobile store, they told me that since T-Mobile didnt sell me the phone, my phone wouldnt find their 3G network. Any idea what I can do to fix this? The phone is brand new, and its a shame that I cant use its best feature
I have Bold 9700 with 6OS. The problem i am encountering is when i change my network mode to 3G my cell is not able to connect to the network while it did a few days back. it only works on the EDGE network, i have tried using my sim card in other phones where it connects to 3G easily but in my phone it doesnt even searches for availabe 3G networks.i have also tried re-installing my operating system of the cell but the problem still persists, cant able to get what to do. Also have tried contacting the service provider but they seem to be helpless because the sim has its 3G network in other phones.
Friend just bought the 9700 locked on T-Mobile, had it successfuly unlocked but the code was for Rogers while she wants it for Telus. She has the new code but I can't seem to get to the popup "Enter network MEP code" because at the Network line in "Sim" menu, it is marked disabled (unlocked). SO is there a way to lock it back to enter new code?
I have a new 9700 and have had a nightmare trying to get my work outlook to sync with the phone. Even if I use the manual sync via USB cable I still cannot see my emails. I can however see Calender events. I cant set up a Blackberry Account. Then accessing the BlackBerry Internet Service web site screen because my network is not shown and after choosing all of the networks shown and entering IMEI and PIN details I get a failure screen.
I want the 9700 to blink red only when I have something of attention. Please help, I do have IM+ installed on the 9700...I've turned off the LED network coverage, etc etc...and yet even when I dont have any emails, im's etc....the silly thing STILL blinks..I have Bebuzz loaded which is fine I think...But for the life of me I dont know why it's flashing...
I have a unlock blackberry 9700 from Tmobile. I am trying to get it to work with my Canadian Bell sim card. However it does not pick up any kind of signal. It shows a red sos signal on the top right hand corner. My phone does pick up wifi signal but no mobile network signals, not even Edge. Please help I am in dire need of a working blackberry while I am in Canada.
This is my first post so be gentle.I have connected my 9700 to my corporate network via the wireless network we have. When I browse the Internet how do I know if I am using my corporate network connection or my 3G?The reason I ask is that our company Internet connection is locked down and access to specific sites are either blocked or only accessible at specific times. As an example Facebook can only be accessed between 12:00-14:00. However when I use my BB I can access that site outside of that time - which makes me think that though I am connected to the network I am not using it to access the Internet - albeit it does seem alot faster.
I pay £40 for unlimited texts and internet and have 900 minutes, the price of my blackberry bolt-on is included in that price.I'm going on holiday next week, was wondering if using my bbm while abroad would mean extra roaming charges when I come back. I rang 02 and they '50/50' om it.Wondering if anyone can help? Has anyone used bbm while abroad? Did your network charge extra?Nobody seems to have a solid answer,Also whats the alternative if you are charged? Will bbm still work if i use a local sim card while on holiday?
