View 6 RepliesI'm using Bold 9000 and after installing the new OS5.0, I realized my key lock function is missing and I can only lock my phone after password enabled.I tried downgrading back to 4.6 and re-installing 5.0 but still the function is missing. Any help to this matter?I really hate setting my phone to password enable.
View 7 Replies View RelatedIs there anyway to revert back to the old way of unlocking the bold, like from early 5.0 OS? like when you were supposed to hold * and the call button, because I absolutely despise this new mute button procedure and my mute button on my bold is already becoming unresponsive.Basically I'm wondering if perhaps there's a application that can switch them or maybe even a way to configure a different button on my bold to mute because as it is the default button (top left of the bold) is pretty much becoming unresponsive on my phone and I don't really want to get locked out.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI just updated to the v5.0.0.464 OS and now my lock icon is missing. I have searched all the folders, even with hidden icons showing. I usually keep the right side convenience key programmed to lock it. But that is not even an option anymore when you go to set the action for the convenience keys.

View 4 Replies View RelatedWith the new 5.0's rolling out, our keyboard feature seems to be done away with. Some of us, like me, do not have the best mute button. If I don't hit mine just right it doesn't work. Sometimes it may take 5-6 presses.
View 14 Replies View RelatedI have an OLD (more like ancient) Nokia on Rogers on a prepaid plan. I also have a fully unlocked Bold 9000. The Nokia obviously has a SIM card, the Bold doesn't. Doesn't have any service at all. I was wondering if I took the SIM card out of the Nokia and put it in my Bold.. what would happen? I'm kind of paranoid about it maybe locking to Rogers the moment I put the SIM card in haha, I don't really know what would happen, I'm a newb to all this cell phone locking/unlocking SIM card stuff.
View 5 Replies View RelatedYesterday, my mute button decided to no longer work when trying to unlock my keypad ( I have os 5.0). I consequently have to take out my battery and restart the phone to get the keypad unlocked. Not sure if the actual button is faulty or not but is there any way to switch the unlocking feature to a different button?
View 12 Replies View RelatedI just ran the latest Blackberry update. Now I don't seem to have the ability to lock the keypad on my device. I had lock set to the right hand convenience button - it is no longer there. The manual says it should be on my home screen, nope not there either.
View 5 Replies View RelatedAt first glance, upgrading from .681 to .822 didn't appear to do too much; save for performance boosts, the OS remained largely the same as would be expected.. well, except for completely changing how the keyboard lock function operates and not providing settings for users to revert back to its prior logistics.
Lock Function Prior to .822: Setting your left soft key as lock, you could lock your phone from anywhere within the OS, showing a "locked" home screen (without actually going to it). To unlock after screen shuts off, you could press any key (as far as I remember) and it would bring up the "locked home screen", from there you would press A (or *) + Send to unlock.Lock Function in .822: Using the left soft key to lock, screen immediately shuts off going into lock mode without any screen feedback. To unlock after screen shuts off, you have to press only the "Power/End" key to bring up the "locked home screen" and then press the "mute" key.
Ah, so one key instead of two, just like the iPhone and many other smart phones; this must mean .822's method is better, right? Nope, and here's why.Reasons pre-.822 method is superior:On locking the phone, you received feedback that the phone was locked (nice), but more than that, the time was displayed, which is frequently absent depending on the application you're using (why it's not always displayed up top, I won't even begin to fathom).Being able to press any key or at least main function keys such as the soft keys and other function keys like the trackball to bring up the "locked home screen" mean quicker and easier access to the time as well as being able to unlock the phone. The mute key is flush with top casing of the phone, which makes it the absolute most difficult key I have ever encountered on any phone, and I don't have large fingers by any means.
Even if the mute key were easy to press, it's in a location that's more difficult to get to when holding normally compared to the keypad, which means even though pre-.822 you had to press two buttons, those two buttons where very close to each other and on top of that, close to your left thumb when holding the phone naturally. Why RIM felt the need to completely revamp the keyboard lock function in such a small update when the prior method had been in use for years while also not providing a way for users to revert to prior functionality, especially considering its user base, is completely beyond me.Based on this and other usability and user experience failures within the Blackberry OS, my recommendation would be to fire and replace the whole Usability/UX team, but well, that precludes actually having one to begin with.
Why can't RIM develop a Bold 9xxx with the body of the Bold 9000 with larger memory, Trackpad, better camera? They've done it with the Tour and Curve. Plus they've got all the parts available already, just need a little engineering to fit the trackpad and everything else. C'mon RIM. We know you can do it. I'm sure you'd sell millions of them.
View 14 Replies View RelatedQuick question. I am starting a new Job and they are getting me a superbasic Perl. I need this for work and so I will be forking some dough out of my pocket to get one of the two following phones: Bold 9000 (I'll pay 100$ Canadian, not Us) Curve 8530 (pay 24.99$ Canadian). I am very used to the Iphone and HTC Touch Pro 2 (not trying to start a flaming/argument/anything else , its just what i'm used to). I am very used to browsing with the other phones and I have heard that BB phones are not up to par, so my expectations will be low. Out of the two phones however, does one perform better than the other (Curve 8530 vs Bold 9000)? Out of the two phones, which one do you recommend overall. I have read that the Bold 9000 even though it is older, it still outperforms the 8530...
View 5 Replies View RelatedI dropped my BlackBerry Bold 9000 on the weekend and damaged the LCD screen. The device still works, but two thirds of the LCD is now white and there's what looks like an inkblot on the left side of the screen. I'd like to try to fix it, but don't really want to shell out a lot of $ to do so --- I'm a month away from upgrading.Does anyone have any suggestions, or perhaps a dead BlackBerry with a working screen that you're willing to part with? A DIY repair -- this is out of warranty anyway -- looks straightforward, but I'm not sure I want to spend the $100 or so for a new OEM part to replace the LCD screen.

View 5 Replies View RelatedA few days ago I pulled my phone out of the holster and It was really hot and when i looked at it i realized it was off, and wouldnt turn back on. just a red light comes on like normal upon a battery pull but after it turns off the red light comes back on again once more then stays off for good. unless i plug it in then it comes on and goes off all the time. I got it powered back up yesterday but then it did it again. Today I plugged it in and I saw a picture of a battery come up on the screen showing it as empty, i was hoping that meant it might charge up. but no such luck. My main objective is just to get the phone up long enough to back up the info on the phone.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a Bold 9000 that keeps going to contacts no matter what icon I click on.I tried upgrading the OS and the phone worked fine for about an hour and then went straight back to only going to contacts. The same thing happens when I downgrade.I am unable to make calls or do anything from the contacts list. The phone is basically unusable.
I have tried the upgrade and battery pull and restore from back up.Does anyone have any suggestions of what this could be and how to fix it.
I'm using 5.0.0.681
I'd appreciate opinions from folks who had a Curve 9320 who upgraded to a Bold 9700. I love the Curve, but am starting to have issues with long periods of watching the hour glass, but also mechanical age issues, like a metal pin that poked through the 5/D key.My only complaint with the Curve, other than the amount of time it spends thinking about itself, is that I could never use weatherbug or any of the weather apps, they just ground everything to a halt.
My carrier is T-Mobile (Albuquerque, NM)
Platform 2.7.0.78
OS 4.5.0.81
Memory Total: 55GB
Memory Free: 8 GB (after deleting a bunch of photos, texts, etc)
I have had my phone for over a year with the OEM holster and it would put my phone to sleep, however for the last 2 days when i put the phone in, nothing happens...am i missing a setting or is this probably a hardware issue and i am then SOL

View 8 Replies View RelatedI have been going through this forum for a while and have tried all of the fixes that I can find to no avail. I have a brand new Windows 7 64-bit machine, that never had the Desktop Manager installed. I have installed version 5.01 off of the web site. Windows is able to see the Blackberry in the Device Manager just fine and I can also see the internal storage available under My Computer and I can access all folders. The Virtual Ports (COM3 and COM4) are also available in Device Manager.
I went through and followed the clean uninstall and reinstall instructions and various other suggestions that I have already seen. For whatever reason, the Desktop Manager still won't see the BB. When going into Options in the Desktop Manager, it shows that USB is selected but still nothing under PIN.I am connected to the straight USB port on the back of the computer and have tried several there.
My blackberry buttons are taking the wrong commands. I press the green/ answerr button it gives letter ‘k” I press the hang-up/red button it gives me the letter M, the track ball is not commanding, it rotates fine but once u click on it, it gives me a letter. Anyone have a solution or will i have to bury my Berry?
