I keep getting "waiting for activation" on my iMessage. I can only send/receive iMessage from my email address, NOT my phone number.
And I'm not sure if this is connected or not, but under setting > phone > show my caller ID, the ON button is greyed out.
A little history & weird problems I encountered:
My iPhone 4S was stolen about a month ago (I'm still ****** about it).I did a remote wipe on it and I figured the person who stole is has thrown away the SIM card because the number isn't active anymore.
So I just bought a brand new iPhone 4S and a new number again. I synced it to iTunes and upgraded it to iOS 5.1 then I did a restore from my old back up. Everything was fine except for the iMessage. It shows "waiting for actvation". When I tap under Receive At, the email address is listed as well as my OLD phone number (the one that was stolen). It was greyed out and the status was "verying" which later turned to "error". I have no way of editing or removing that old number. When I connect my iPhone to iTunes, the phone # was shown as n/a on iTunes, but after 30 mins or so, it will appear.
So I did a restore again and this time set is as a new iPhone. The old phone number is now gone, but only my email address is listed. I can't input my phone number there.
I have done all kind of fixing suggestions that I can find online, but nothing works so far.
- Date & time set as automatic (I don't know why this matter, but mine was already set as automatic from the begining)
- Reset network setting
- Changing the DNS to 8.8.8.8.
- Restore to factory setting (from back up & as new iPhone)
- Turning on/off iMessage & facetime
- Sign out/in of apple ID
- Change location from apple ID
- Hard reset/reboot
And many others.
Is this an error on my iPhone or maybe the iOS or is it the carrier?
Any input is greatly appreciated!

Staying at a hotel outside the country my plan is in. Hotel has great wifi, so I've been iMessaging a lot. It stopped working last night, so I did what I normally do when this happens: turned iMessages off and then back on. But now it's stuck on "waiting for activation."
Restarted, did the DNS trick, let it sit for 8 hours. Still "waiting," no activation error message.
I even tried turning airplane mode off, but oddly, I can't connect to a cell network, despite being in a major city.

Apr 9, 2012It's has appears after a restoration. My iMessage setting stays deactivated. Or when I try to activate it, it fails. No error in particular. Just try again.It has been more than a month that I try again. Even more.I don't understand why. For other users, it's working, so, it doesn't seem That the Apple server is down. I am starting to wonder if it is not the hardware that has a problem now. And of course, Facetime doesn't work neither. Same error message.

Jun 19, 2012When I create a message and I go through the contact list, I cannot see the blue iMessage icon in the list, beside the contact names.
I mean, after I type a letter, for example "a" I see the contacts but I don't see if they have enabke iMessage.
Then, once I select for example "Andrea" if he has iMessage the bubble becomes blue.
My question is: Can I see all the available iMessage contact? Is there any apps solving that?

Jul 4, 2012i have iphone 4, my sim card is working in my country, recieving at my Apple ID email and my phone number.. working finee then i traveled to another country and now there is no service.. and no carrier is allowed.. donno why.. so im using my imessage which is working while roaming to my phone number and my email... but my mistake i turned it off.. and now its waiting for activation.. im afraid that it needs my sims signal to work and recieve at my phone number. coz until now its verifying BUT NO SERVICE.. and i reeeeeeally need my imessage.. it has been for hours.. Jul 1, 2012I can confirm my 4S and all my other devices are not able to activate iMessage after it is toggled off and back on. It simply stays stuck on "Waiting for activation" and eventually goes to "Activation unsuccessful. Turn on imessage to try again". All with no avail. get your engineers on this ASAP apple. More and more people are facing this issue. Devices that are already receiving and sending imessages are unaffected. However when you toggle imessage off and then back on, it does not reactivate. This must clearly be a ongoing issue with your icloud server from yesterdays outages.

Jan 16, 2010I've attempted over 10 times to update my e71's firmware from version 200.x.x to 400.x.x and everytime the phone restarts about a minute into the update and NSU instructs me to re-establish the connection by removing the battery etc. The phone reboots by itself even if I do not remove the battery. upon clicking 'retry' the update fails again a minute into the process. I'm using NSU version 1.8.10en.Is there anything I could try to update the phone successfully?

I even switched off my firewall and tried, but in vain.
