IPhone :: I Switched My IMessage ON And It Still Says "Waiting For Activation..."
Apr 25, 2012
I switched my iMessage ON and it still says "Waiting for activation..." I tried powering on and off, toggling the switch, etc. I have the iPhone 4s operating on ios 5.1. It is stuck on this and will not activate.
I keep getting "waiting for activation" on my iMessage. I can only send/receive iMessage from my email address, NOT my phone number.
And I'm not sure if this is connected or not, but under setting > phone > show my caller ID, the ON button is greyed out.
A little history & weird problems I encountered:
My iPhone 4S was stolen about a month ago (I'm still ****** about it).I did a remote wipe on it and I figured the person who stole is has thrown away the SIM card because the number isn't active anymore.
So I just bought a brand new iPhone 4S and a new number again. I synced it to iTunes and upgraded it to iOS 5.1 then I did a restore from my old back up. Everything was fine except for the iMessage. It shows "waiting for actvation". When I tap under Receive At, the email address is listed as well as my OLD phone number (the one that was stolen). It was greyed out and the status was "verying" which later turned to "error". I have no way of editing or removing that old number. When I connect my iPhone to iTunes, the phone # was shown as n/a on iTunes, but after 30 mins or so, it will appear.
So I did a restore again and this time set is as a new iPhone. The old phone number is now gone, but only my email address is listed. I can't input my phone number there.
I have done all kind of fixing suggestions that I can find online, but nothing works so far.
- Date & time set as automatic (I don't know why this matter, but mine was already set as automatic from the begining)
- Reset network setting
- Changing the DNS to 8.8.8.8.
- Restore to factory setting (from back up & as new iPhone)
- Turning on/off iMessage & facetime
- Sign out/in of apple ID
- Change location from apple ID
- Hard reset/reboot
And many others.
Is this an error on my iPhone or maybe the iOS or is it the carrier?
My imessage and facetime are not working it keeps on saying under the settings that the imessage and facetime are waiting for activation but its been like that for a couple of hours now
i have iphone 4, my sim card is working in my country, recieving at my Apple ID email and my phone number.. working finee then i traveled to another country and now there is no service.. and no carrier is allowed.. donno why.. so im using my imessage which is working while roaming to my phone number and my email... but my mistake i turned it off.. and now its waiting for activation.. im afraid that it needs my sims signal to work and recieve at my phone number. coz until now its verifying BUT NO SERVICE.. and i reeeeeeally need my imessage.. it has been for hours.. WAITING FOR ACTIVATION and VERIFYING my phone number.. NOTE:- no service, signal and CANT FIX IT...
After upgrading to iOS 5.1 , my imessage have stopped showing my phone number and shows my email address instead. It is NOT verifying my phone number. Does anyone know how can I get the iphone to show my phone number?
Just purchased my IPhone yesterday and can't send out any text messages. I went into imessage and it keeps saying "waiting for activation". I've done everything that the Apple support said to do. Also what several websites have recommended. I'm almost thinking of taking it back and getting my old phone reactivated.
I put in a password for iMessage, but evidently I am remembering it wrong or something. In any case, it simply hangs at "Waiting for activation..." I don't know what to do. How should I proceed?
I am trying to set up iMessage and FaceTime for an iPhone 4. I have created an apple ID and set up the wifi connection but both show " waiting for activation" so when I select "use your apple ID for iMessage" but when I try to sign in it says there is a problem with my Internet connection even thought the Internet is fine for everything else. Does anyone know how to fix it?
iMessage and FaceTime perpetually show "Waiting for Activation" in settings. When I toggle these features on in settings, they both say "Waiting for Activation" beneath the toggle. Those goes on for hours, but it never activates. I have reset the phone with iTunes, powered off, done just about everything but through the phone at the wall.
I just updated my iPhone 4 and my iPad 2 as well as my wife's iPhone 4 to IOS5.1. No problems with the update process but we cannot activate iMessage. It just says "Waiting for activation ..."
I'm having prpblems with imessage it just won't activate, I've tried everything turning it on and off, rebooting the phone many times, waitning 24 hours to try again and I keep getting the waiting for activation message, what can I do?
My imessages was working until i switched it off yesterday, then back on and it says waiting for activation since then!! My apple ID works on imessages but my phone number is still under verification!
So, we get two 16GB i4's yesterday. Set them up and get them all activated. My i4 finally showed Facetime activated late last night. My Wife's finally showed activated this morning. We try a call, fails. Mine still shows activated.Head off to work, noticed I had no 3G for 10 miles. Rebooted the phone, grabbed 3G. My facetime has now gone back to "waiting for activation".On WifI at work, but still no activation !
Recently I switched from a CDMA service to GSM iPhone 4s using my same phone number. Facetime and iMessage will not activate. However, under Facetime settings where there is usually a phone number my email address is there (which is also my apple ID). So even though this is not activated someone can Facetime me using my email address. My phone was reset to factory settings twice and it didn't help. Apple Store tried to fix it to no avail and gave me a new phone. Once they loaded it back up, same issue. So we decided it was the carrier of the service. I checked with them and they are puzzled as well. We are thinking it has something to do with taking my existing phone number from CDMA to GSM and something happened.
Are there any known issues with activating iMessage via wifi in airplane mode?
Staying at a hotel outside the country my plan is in. Hotel has great wifi, so I've been iMessaging a lot. It stopped working last night, so I did what I normally do when this happens: turned iMessages off and then back on. But now it's stuck on "waiting for activation."
Restarted, did the DNS trick, let it sit for 8 hours. Still "waiting," no activation error message.
I even tried turning airplane mode off, but oddly, I can't connect to a cell network, despite being in a major city.
It's has appears after a restoration. My iMessage setting stays deactivated. Or when I try to activate it, it fails. No error in particular. Just try again. It has been more than a month that I try again. Even more.I don't understand why. For other users, it's working, so, it doesn't seem That the Apple server is down. I am starting to wonder if it is not the hardware that has a problem now. And of course, Facetime doesn't work neither. Same error message.
I can confirm my 4S and all my other devices are not able to activate iMessage after it is toggled off and back on. It simply stays stuck on "Waiting for activation" and eventually goes to "Activation unsuccessful. Turn on imessage to try again". All with no avail. get your engineers on this ASAP apple. More and more people are facing this issue. Devices that are already receiving and sending imessages are unaffected. However when you toggle imessage off and then back on, it does not reactivate. This must clearly be a ongoing issue with your icloud server from yesterdays outages.
Ived got 2 iphones, iphone 4 and 4s. On my iphone, the facetime os working perfectly but not on my 4s. Ived toggled the on and off button to turn it on but it says "waiting for activation". ived tried all the possible trouble shooting actions listed on the support page but to no avail. I dont know what to do next.
